Kids throw garbage in Sept. 11 memorial pool

Learning to ignore bad children and parenting is a painful but worthwhile endeavor, though it retards the advancement of civilization.

Despite my zen, I’m not sure I could have turned the other cheek if I’d observed junior high students tossing garbage into the reflecting pool at the September 11 Memorial in New York City.

Fox News reports one of the kids was detained by police for having bullets in his pockets.

“These kids just need to be educated about what happened there,” said New Yorker Anthoula Kastinatides, whose brother died in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

The kids were on a summer field trip with a Brooklyn public school. New York’s school chancellor said the students who threw garbage into the memorial, which opened Sept. 11, 2011, in Lower Manhattan, may be punished. The kid that had ammunition faces a police investigation.

And who knows, maybe a parent will get involved?

For the 90 percent who don’t know why that is a story. Lake Lanier is in the news the past few days after the DUI hit and Run. Put Lake Lanier in the headline and everyone clicks on it. Classy. My maid just slammed his finger in my door in East Lake. Call me if you want to do a story ajc

“The kid had three bullets when they went through the metal detector,” said a JHS 292 student

“Kids were throwing baseballs in the pond…in addition to the baseballs, witnesses reported seeing empty plastic soda bottles and other refuse in the water on Thursday.”

Not sure why kids carry baseballs with them in NewYork

“The kid that had ammunition” You mean the kid WHO had ammunition. Whether you agree with his actions or not, a kid is a person. Also, according to the original source, the New York Post, the miscreants are ‘facing discipline’ which implies they ARE being punished, not ‘MAY’ be punished. Also, calling what they tossed in there ‘Garbage’ tends to imply stuff like food waste, while the reports indicate they threw baseballs and soda bottles, which would best be described as ‘litter’ or ‘baseballs’.

Duane G- zero folks were tossing pennies there on Sunday when I was there. Tons of cops and workers checked our tickets three times (even kids need passes)….unsure of specific policy….I don’t think so; however.

I agree with “Ralph” and his idea about the “board of education”. Of course, keep in mind, children that are brazen enough to deface a memorial would also call police/DFACS if their parents used the “board”. Sad.

Putting them IN the memorial would give them more attention and that is what they are after. I like JRHD’s idea the best. These BRATS need physical and memorable punishment. Maybe wearing a sandwich sign saying what they did and walking around the memorial the hottest part of the day for a couple of weeks would suffice. This should not go UNPUNISHED!!!!

Ignorant adults raise ignorant children. Why are there so many ignorant people in this country? It takes quite a moron to do something like this.

Not Surprised: This has nothing to do with politics. Poor parenting, poor supervision by the school, and no self control/discipline. It may surprise you but ill-behaved children are not exclusive to one political ideology.
