Zuckerberg stiffs Rome waiter on honeymoon

zuckerberg-chanFacebook’s $20 billion dollar man probably didn’t get rich by being overly generous.

Now, Mark Zuckerberg’s penurious ways are attracting the attention of at least one Rome waiter, who received no tip from the Facebook founder.

Zuckerberg is in Italy on his honeymoon. He married longtime girlfriend Priscilla Chan in his back yard the day after the social media giant’s company went public, making him and many of his employees some of the richest people on Earth.

London Telegraph reporter Nick Squires reports Zuckerberg and Chan really like artichokes. While honeymooning Monday, they dined on deep-fried artichokes, fried pumpkin flowers and ravioli stuffed with sea bass and more artichokes. The total bill – about $40. The tip? Zero.

Waiters at the “service included” restaurant Nonna Betta were “amazed” they didn’t at least get a Like, a Poke or even a friend request from Chan’s dog Beast.

Word is the happy couple also didn’t tip the night before after eating pizza.

This kind of news could make Italian waiters as depressed as Facebook’s stock.

Dear “oh well” and “johnny”

When you are next deciding on where to go out to eat, please just stay home. We don’t want your business.

Sincerely
Restaurant owners

Even if tipping is included, which some on this blog say is not, he could have tipped some, being a billionaire. Maybe his wife told him not to. I have known some Asians who seem to be very cheap, and rude to service people. But doubt he and his wife are going to lose any sleep worrying about what the public thinks about this.

If on his honeymoon, shouldn’t Zuckerberg have been “stiffing” his bride instead of some waiter?

Even if it’s a “service included” restaurant, this story will spread like wildfire through the hospitality community and he will be forever recognized as a bad tipper and will forever get crappy service as a result. Trust me, it happens. If there is no incentive to “go the extra mile”, the server won’t.

However, as a server myself, I think it was in extremely poor taste for the server to disclose the tip.

Uncle Thomas probably only eats at O’Charley’s and Golden Coral. Artichokes are freaking delicious. Never had pumpkin flowers. But I can imagine they are quite yummy.

Adolph,

Not very nice talk about Jews being cheap. I know a lot of Christians and other non- Jews who are cheap too. Just another stereotype…

So really…he got 2 bad servers 2 nights in a row. I’m sure he didn’t dine at less than 5*’s. Scrooge should have left a tip.(20%)..no matter the service. That’s why they think we are the “Ugly Americans”.

Get real! There’s no steadfast rule about tipping. I’ve been a waitress/bartender, and I was paid an hourly wage. The tips were extra. You don’t HAVE to tip. It’s based on service…IF you want to show a waitperson your appreciation. Get off his back. Just because he has money doesn’t mean he has to tip.
