Free drug tests hit town on 420 eve

Parents wishing to throw water on Friday’s 420 festivities may wish to seek out the offices of Rural/Metro ambulance services in Roswell.
Rural/Metro, along with anti-drug website notMYkid.org and drug testing company First Check, is handing out testing kits today at 250 Hembree Park Drive in Roswell. The First Check kits test for 12 drugs (seven illicit and five prescription), not just marijuana.
In my hood, 420 means a delicious ale crafted locally by the beer mages at Sweetwater Brewing. But, as any Phish fan will tell you, 420, aka April 20 (and/or 4:20 p.m.) has long been not-so secret code for smoking marijuana.
April 20 has more recently become the day NORML and other organizations have publicized their push to decriminalize marijuana use in the U.S.
A press release advertising the event, which ends at 5 p.m. Thursday (but will resume Friday at 7 a.m. if 650 drug tests don’t go up in smoke), says “notMYkid has found utilizing a drug test in the home helps kids avoid peer pressure situations by empowering them to say, ‘I can’t, my parents might drug test me.’”
That may be true, but I like to think I’d be able to tell if my kid was smoking weed without a kit. Tell-tale signs — an appreciation of better music, the presence of tie-dyed clothing, peace signs or dancing bears — is Gratefully, a Dead giveaway.

@concerned….I myself have been smoking pot since I was 19 years old….I am now on the eve of my 53rd birthday, next month. I graduated from college. Got a job, got married, had kids. I’ve been at my current job for 20 years.
No one has ever died from marijuana. No one has ever gotten cancer from marijuana. Marijuana is natural, grows in the ground, not man made, like meth, coke, etc.
It kills me that this is illegal, but alcohol is legal. Just recently a young lady killed an Atlanta police officer on I85 after an evening of drinking in bars downtown.
Marijuana is not addicting. You CANNOT get addicted to pot…….
Go back and drink more of the government’s koolaide…..OR learn for yourself. Don’t listen to the government’s propaganda. You have NO idea what you are talking about. Education is KEY
Pot does not make you want to go rob a liquor store to get more money for more pot.

….except for “Concerned” who is just absolutely sure that kid over there took one toke and hit the highway to hell. I’m sure it’s not alcohol, mommy and daddy’s fights, or living with Grandma since the family lost the house. No, it’s DEMON WEEEEEEED!

I smoked pot for years. Anyone that thinks it is harmless is in denial. Sure, there are plenty of successful people that smoke. Regardless, it has a way of robbing ones motivation and becoming the focus in someone’s life. How many dope smokers do you know that exercise alot or that really do alot in their life besides work, smoke and party, and then do it again? In the beginning people smoke while they are doing something. Later they just say they will do something but just smoke instead. It is not a positive influence on life. Deny away, but it is true – it DOES affect educations, relationships, and lives.

As the parents of 5 teens in our blended family, if smoking weed is the worst thing we have to deal with, my hubby and I will be grateful and happy!

@Denial – I exercise daily. I walk AT LEAST 2 miles a day with my dogs. I’m very active in my neighborhood, and community. I play tennis 4 times a week. I eat healthy too.
I work in a professional environment. I do not, nor have I ever, smoked at work, or before work. I smoke when I’m at home, in the comfort of MY HOME.
You would be surprised how many of your neighbors and friends actually smoke weed.

Drugs are bad. Kids shouldn’t do drugs. Unless they are Paxil, Prozac, Celebrex, Ritalin, Adderal, or other “medications” that you get from a doctor. Those are the good kind of drugs for kids.
