Free drug tests hit town on 420 eve

Nothing ruins a good party like a thorough drug testing.

Parents wishing to throw water on Friday’s 420 festivities may wish to seek out the offices of Rural/Metro ambulance services in Roswell.

Rural/Metro, along with anti-drug website notMYkid.org and drug testing company First Check, is handing out testing kits today at 250 Hembree Park Drive in Roswell. The First Check kits test for 12 drugs (seven illicit and five prescription), not just marijuana.

In my hood, 420 means a delicious ale crafted locally by the beer mages at Sweetwater Brewing. But, as any Phish fan will tell you, 420, aka April 20 (and/or 4:20 p.m.) has long been not-so secret code for smoking marijuana.

April 20 has more recently become the day NORML and other organizations have publicized their push to decriminalize marijuana use in the U.S.

A press release advertising the event, which ends at 5 p.m. Thursday (but will resume Friday at 7 a.m. if 650 drug tests don’t go up in smoke), says “notMYkid has found utilizing a drug test in the home helps kids avoid peer pressure situations by empowering them to say, ‘I can’t, my parents might drug test me.’”

That may be true, but I like to think I’d be able to tell if my kid was smoking weed without a kit. Tell-tale signs — an appreciation of better music, the presence of tie-dyed clothing, peace signs or dancing bears — is Gratefully, a Dead giveaway.

What did one Grateful Dead fan say to the other Grateful Dead fan after they ran out of weed?
“Dude, what’s this s***ty music?”

Extremely poor writing. All of it could have been done without the terrible stereotypical references.

Wow, I never did any of those things in my 420 days. Unless by appreciation of better music you meant “Cypress Hill” or “The Chronic” album.

If you feel the need to drug test your kid, you have already failed as a parent. Most people have smoked weed at some point in their life and almost none of those people do not end up becoming drug addicts (statistically speaking).

The real gateway drug is being such a strict parent that you force your kids to rebel with real drugs.

I love anti-drug groups best argument against marijuana deriminalization, “but teens will have more access to it.” That argument in it of itself is passively admitting it should be legal for adults. The only thing the status quo protectors have going for them is the stigma of “drugs.”

Like i told my little brother when he was younger, if you can just smoke a joint and drink and be satisfied… your good! Its ciggs, coke, meth, pills… etc.. that are whats really addictive and will kill you/ ruin your life!
