George Zimmerman seeks donations via new website
George Zimmerman, who says he shot and killed Florida teen Trayvon Martin in self-defense, has a new website where he’s asking for financial assistance from his supporters.

TheRealGeorgeZimmerman.com is missing animated gifs, but the non-working click counter definitely evokes web nostalgia. I almost dusted off the ole 56K modem and logged onto AOL to give it a proper gander.
Zimmerman’s lawyer, via Fox News, confirms the domain, registered April 8 with GoDaddy.com, is legit.
Why create a website?
Zimmerman alleges the “website’s sole purpose is to ensure my supporters they are receiving my full attention without any intermediaries.”
Then, just atop a PayPal button, he says he needs donations “for living expenses and legal defense, in lieu of my forced inability to maintain employment.”
Zimmerman, who has been in hiding since the Feb. 26 shooting in Sanford, Fla., says the shooting has been a “life altering event” that has forced him to “leave my home, my school, my employer, my family and ultimately, my entire life.”
Trayvon Martin’s family blasted the new site on TV Tuesday morning, reports The Orlando Sentinel.
“You know he says that he experienced a life-altering event. Well, Trayvon Martin experienced a life-ending event,” said Benjamin Crump, an attorney for Trayvon Martin’s family on Good Morning America.
Zimmerman doesn’t reveal much on the site, though he does have a contact form where you can send him your best wishes, or best invective.
Instead, he lets the famous and allegedly wise get his message across via quotations.
On the “Facts” page, the quote is provided by James W. Loewen: “People have a right to their own opinions, but not to their own facts. Evidence must be located, not created, and opinions not backed by evidence cannot be given much weight.”
Unfortunately, Zimmerman says he cannot share any facts until the case is resolved.
There’s a curious “My Race” page, where Zimmerman lets pamphleteer Thomas Paine do the talking: “The world is my country, all mankind are my brethren, and to do good is my religion.”
The “Home” page features the Edmund Burke standard “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil, is that good men do nothing.”
Ironic choice of words, perhaps.

from the beginning of this tradegy i did not beleive all the facts were being put out about this case starting with it being a 17 year old but showing pics of a 12 year old. i beleive in the justice system and find it hard to beleive the florida system is innept. protesters claim they want g zimmerman arrested, and it seems that he was brought to police station were his statement was assessed and he was released pending further investigation.i beleive a person is innocent until proven guilty by court not by rally”s and protest my god this is the 21st century. and the legal system should guaranty his right to legal council regardless of the cost since it has let g zimmerman down by trying his case with public opinion

anyone who has a strong opinion on this matter is a fool. there is no reason to get worked up about anything until all facts are made public. we can all assume all day but NOBODY but zimmerman knows what really happened. the martin family, their lawyer and the media are being completely irresponsible in the way they are handling this. remember folks…we live in the greatest country in the world where you are innocent until proven guilty…your word matters until facts prove otherwise. the family is letting grief get the best of them and the way their lawyer has instructed them to behave and the media giving them an unfair, biased voice is just wrong. no matter how you look at this situation, it is terrible because an unarmed youth was shot, whether it was murder or self defense, it doesnt change how sad and awful a child losing his life is. with that said, it is completely irresponsible and pointless for anyone to have a strong feeling on this subject, unless it is agreeing that children dieing sucks. any opinion more than that is a wasted feeling at this point.

We may not have “all the facts” about Trayvon’s tragedy, but it’s insulting to ask people to wait for more facts. What fact should we wait for? Did Trayvon start beating Zimmerman once he saw him? Did Trayvon actually have the gun, and Zimmerman took it from him? I’m struggling to think of any realistic scenario where Trayvon can be blamed for being killed. If you can think of one, I’d love to hear it.

If you look at the evidence that everyone has heard there is no way that anyone can support Zimmerman. Trayvon was walking down the street minding his own busy when he was pursued by a stranger. Why has no one considered that it was MARTIN, NOT ZIMMERMAN who implemented the “stand your ground law” win this case? Martin said on the phone call to his girlfriend right before the tragedy happened, that he thought he was being followed. So Martin, who did live in the subdivision, was the one who felt threatened in this case, and it was he who had a right to stand his ground in being stalked by Zimmerman (in particular since the stalker was carrying a gun!). Let’s surmise that in self-defense Martin did sling the first punch to Zimmerman. But at the point a fight ensued, if it did, the stand your ground law was no longer in effect and so when Zimmerman pulled the trigger he could not be supported by that law. And of course, since Martin is dead, we will never know the 100% truth.

To all those who support Zimmerman, financial or otherwise on the basis of allowing the facts to be uncovered should remember one thing….THE FACT IS…Zimmerman was instructed by the authorities to NOT go after or follow Martin, by evidence of the 911 call. When Zimmerman decided to take matters into his own hands and continue to follow Martin, he became a predator and not a person seeking to avoid conflict and certainly not someone that can hide behind the claim of self defense. His actions, which by some of his own statements, seem premeditated, caused this tragedy….I am all for due process of the law as long as we are imposing the same set of laws for everyone, regardless of the racial makeup of the cast involved !!!

to all those out there in the bloggersphere…as unfortunate as it is, unarmed black males (young and old) get shot and killed in their own neighborhoods by law enforcement far too often that it really isn’t news. when was the last time you read an article about a a young unarmed white male being shot by the police in mayberry??? that’s news worthy – the issues involving this case seem to be focused around power, influence and racial bias in the judicial system. per some of the coverage, the officers attempted to arrest GZ but were ordered not to by the DA. the only reason that GZ has not been arrested is because his father is a retired virginia state supreme court judge. does anyone remember jamestown????

I could see if he saw Trayvon stealing someone’s car, or breaking into someone’s house. But why does he have to be suscpious because he was walking down the street in a hoodie? All young black men are not up to no good, As a mother of two positive young black men I can attest to this fact. You have people of all races who cause trouble, it’s not always young black men that are causing trouble. White kids get into trouble too. If it had been a white teenager, Zimmerman would be in jail without bond. I think it’s real tragic that this man has taken a life, and so far without any legal consequences. If Trayvon wasn’t armed why was it necessary for him to use deadly force…..sad situation

In cases like this when you have a person dead I think there should always be a trial, should be the way God did in the Old Testament when he set up refuge cities.
If you killed someone you had a place to go for protection from revenge if you were innocent, had trial and if found guilty you were killed.
I say at least have a trial.

this case with Trayvon Martin attacking a man in a State that has it’s history in history books. But this particular case reminds me of when young Zimmerman was almost murdered by a racist pigs for defending his neighborhood. George Zimmerman was told by the 911 operator to not follow Trayvon so he stopped. But rascists lie and say that he want to go on a vigilante like he was the police. Trayvon confronted and beat up Zimmerman. From th police survilence video Zimmerman had a broken nose liked he cliamed and gashes on the back of his head. Trayvon supporters are liars, who need to be jail not walking the streets. Trayvon was a danger to society and should be in jail.

Its unfortunate that this has become what it has instead of a teachable moment about making assumptions, taking matters into your own hands, race relations (both black and white), and just people using simple common sense. We are so quick to get worked up but no one is putting themselves in the shoes of the Martin or Zimmerman family. The only people who know what happened are Martin (who is deceased), Zimmerman (whose version may be tainted by now because of all of the media attention), and God (who is letting us sort this out as only humans know how). I pray that none of us that are blogging ever have to experience what either of those families are going through, and that at the end of the day, whatever justice is served, that we would have all learned something about ourselves. We didn’t have “all the facts” about Obama being a “real” American, but we have birthers who claim he’s from Kenya. We didn’t have “all the facts” about 9/11, but we have truthers. We didn’t have “all the facts” about the Jerry Sandusky child molestation cases, but people justifiably were sickened by the accusations.
We may not have “all the facts” about Trayvon’s tragedy, but it’s insulting to ask people to wait for more facts. What fact should we wait for? Did Trayvon start beating Zimmerman once he saw him? Did Trayvon actually have the gun, and Zimmerman took it from him? I’m struggling to think of any realistic scenario where Trayvon can be blamed for being killed. If you can think of one, I’d love to hear it.
BTW, black people don’t take the New Black Party seriously. I can fit more people in my Honda Accord then there are members of that ersatz organization. Furthermore, we don’t take Jesse or Sharpton seriously, either. And if you think THEY are the real “race baiters,” you are must really hate Glenn Beck and Pat Buchanan. Sure, they’re not bigots…

Since when did it become normal to hide and not stand your ground in your own neighborhood? I am the type who will confront someone who clearly does not belong or is up to no good. If that persons tries to hide and avoids being confronted I will assume they have something to hide. I don’t care if a 911 operator tells me to ignore it and hide my head in the sand, I’m going to confront the person. In this case the punk waited to jump his confronter and bit off more than he could chew. If we had more people like zimmerman maybe we goblet feel safe at night downtown or walking on the tech campus after dark. This is not a black and white or in this case a black and brown issue.
