George Zimmerman seeks donations via new website

George Zimmerman, who says he shot and killed Florida teen Trayvon Martin in self-defense, has a new website where he’s asking for financial assistance from his supporters.

TheRealGeorgeZimmerman.com is missing animated gifs, but the non-working click counter definitely evokes web nostalgia. I almost dusted off the ole 56K modem and logged onto AOL to give it a proper gander.

Zimmerman’s lawyer, via Fox News, confirms the domain, registered April 8 with GoDaddy.com, is legit.

Why create a website?

Zimmerman alleges the “website’s sole purpose is to ensure my supporters they are receiving my full attention without any intermediaries.”

Then, just atop a PayPal button, he says he needs donations “for living expenses and legal defense, in lieu of my forced inability to maintain employment.”

Zimmerman, who has been in hiding since the Feb. 26 shooting in Sanford, Fla., says the shooting has been a “life altering event” that has forced him to “leave my home, my school, my employer, my family and ultimately, my entire life.”

Trayvon Martin’s family blasted the new site on TV Tuesday morning, reports The Orlando Sentinel.

“You know he says that he experienced a life-altering event. Well, Trayvon Martin experienced a life-ending event,” said Benjamin Crump, an attorney for Trayvon Martin’s family on Good Morning America.

Zimmerman doesn’t reveal much on the site, though he does have a contact form where you can send him your best wishes, or best invective.

Instead, he lets the famous and allegedly wise get his message across via quotations.

On the “Facts” page, the quote is provided by James W. Loewen: “People have a right to their own opinions, but not to their own facts. Evidence must be located, not created, and opinions not backed by evidence cannot be given much weight.”

Unfortunately, Zimmerman says he cannot share any facts until the case is resolved.

There’s a curious “My Race” page, where Zimmerman lets pamphleteer Thomas Paine do the talking: “The world is my country, all mankind are my brethren, and to do good is my religion.”

The “Home” page features the Edmund Burke standard “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil, is that good men do nothing.”

Ironic choice of words, perhaps.

@Richard – Trayvon WAS a gang member. That’s the honest truth! Also, Trayvon did something that he shouldn’t have done — ATTACK ZIMMERMAN! You act as if Zimmerman was the one who was trying to defend his neighborhood from a 6′ 3″ violent thug that was beating him to death in the dark…

This man meaning the black panther thugs that committed a felony asking for the innocent George to be hunted down, pathetic.

Really, jump on the George Zimmerman band wagon….what hypcrites. You say we don’t have all the facts and that George Zimmerman did what he should of done….You don’t know Trayvon…You have no facts to back up what you are saying about him….The fact is.. if George had stayed in his car like he was requested to and had let the police handle the situation….NONE of this would have happened….He chose to disregard the request of the 911 operator and took it upon his self to handle the situation because he was and is a want to be cop. He was a self appointed neighborhood watchmen….no training….just self appointed… He caused this whole situation….because he brought judgement on a person based on what the child was wearing….He lost his his entire life…what a joke…..He took the life of a young man all because he judge him based on what he was wearing….he deserves way worst than what he is getting based on his actions….he brought this on himself….want to be cop……There is a reason he wasn’t able to get on a real police force….cause he is a freaking idot.

@Ms Let Down – Seriously? You seriously can excuse George Zimmerman STALKING this child!? Zimmerman was told to stay his behind at home and instead, he took his gun and followed this kid who was just walking home! You have the audacity to say that Zimmerman had the right to defend himself, but what about Trayvon!? Trayvon was Simply. Walking. Home.

It’s amazing how your internal prejudices (and likely racism) are forcing you to go through all types of mental leaps and loopholes to somehow justify Zimmerman’s actions. Face it lady. If it was YOUR CHILD, you would not be singing the same tune that you are about INNOCENT Trayvon Martin.

OFF THE A.P. No charges will probably be filed, all evidence, with eye witness accounts are credible toward MR Zimmerman’s account of the story, Lookout the coloreds will be going crazy.

But after reading the facts, I think George was innocent victim of media bias.
