After the death of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, the #iSad hashtag is trending on Twitter.
Westboro Baptist Church, a group that has forsaken human decency in the name of headlines, announced Wednesday night, in a tweet sent via #iPhone, a planned protest of the iPhone creator’s funeral.
Perhaps an #iRony hashtag would be appropriate?
Why protest Jobs?
Religious leader Margie J. Phelps, in responding to an Associated Press headline on Twitter concerning Jobs’ death, said the group would picket the funeral because Jobs had “a huge platform; gave God no glory and taught sin.”
Phelps, a lawyer and daughter of Westboro’s founder, Fred Phelps Sr., argued successfully before the Supreme Court that the thankfully tiny church had the First Amendment right to stage anti-gay and anti-war protests at the funerals of celebrities and U.S. soldiers.
Westboro’s leaders have been here before. In 2010 the group picketed Twitter’s offices in San Francisco. They tweeted about it, of course.

It’s not about how other people act(nonchristian like), it’s all about how you act…don’t judge yourself just because other people in church don’t act like christians.
You go to school, meet people in the grocery store, possibly work with nonchristians. Maybe if we start acting more like christians it might rub off on others.
The Westboro Baptist Church is not of the Baptist religion that we know….theirs is a cult…just think about it….would any christians do the unspeakable act of storming and protesting around someones funeral. How would they like it if we did that to one of their loved ones. But, you know, we won’t….we’re christians.

I’ll bet that these nutcases wish they could still burn ‘heretics’ and ‘witches’. They are so deliciously medievel…poster children for atheism and enlightenment.

Kokomtoo: What do you mean you would have to prove that you could fly. Jesus proved himself over and over(Healed the sick, raised the dead, calmed the seas, died for our SINS etc, etc, etc. So if you were Jesus and told me you could fly I would believe it. (FAITH) We walk by faith not by sight. 2 Corintians 5:7. Jesus doesn’t have to prove anything. PEOPLE PEOPLE PEOPLE Please read the BIBLE Inthe last days there will be wars and rumers of war.earthquakes in diverse places.False Prophets,Sickness, plauges, deception, greed. So Believe what you wish. I don’t know what Steve Jobs believed. That’s for him to worry about now, because no one ever told that I was to judge people. Not even judges can judge people. Only God Himself can and will judge.

Westboro Baptist Church spreads its hate through picketing in our streets, provoking attacks, with abusive language and flag desecration, attempting to create a confrontation. This is not a church, this is a hate group. This is not about protesting, freedom, or God. They are in it for the money and the press; this is a family law firm. They are not a “church.” It is a scam. They go after anything that can get them in the news. This is a family of lawyers using this “god hates you” thing to make money. It is time for this scam to end.

Steve Jobs’ family kept the funeral service very small, totally private, and the WBC freaks couldn’t find a way to protest. I read one report that said the funeral was in a walled garden, with only invited guests. No access for Phelps and company; they couldn’t even find it.

@BTW – Unless you can provide some independent documentation of your statement, you’re full of S**T.

@latenight for what it’s worth, there is a wikipedia page on phelps that cites his running for Kansas governor as a democrat several times during the 90’s….shouldn’t be to difficult to verify a governors race. I don’t see what it matters though.

Steve jobs was a Buddhist, what would you expect from a Buddhist, but to be one. As a Christian, if I were going to picket something, I would feel most compelled to picket a group that claimed to represent Christ, but was teaching aberrant doctrine….like westboro.

Something to be aware of, westboro is an independent baptist group, if they ever had an affiliation with a larger group, it’s been severed because of how aberrant their doctrine has gotten. Are there babysitters that have molested children? Of course…many times! Have they sullied the profession? Absolutely! Does this mean that all babysitters everywhere are bad? Of course not! Was Steve jobs a man with a huge platform that was a sinner? Did he fail to give glory to God? From a Christian perspective, yes! Should his funeral be picketed for this? From a Christian perspective….no!
