Obama’s likeness used to sell fried chicken in China
While President Barack Obama seeks the secret recipe for U.S. economic growth, a fast-food restaurant in China is inferring he’s already privy to Colonel Sanders’ secret for fried chicken.
The short arm of trademark law.
The Daily Mail and other media outlets report Obama Fried Chicken is using advertising very similar to that used by KFC, aka known as Kentucky Fried Chicken before the word “fried” became a marketing pariah.
The Beijing business sign allegedly contains the phrase ‘We’re so cool, aren’t we?’ in Chinese, but Google translate cannot confirm that for me.
The restaurant’s name may be a way for restaurateurs to decry a tariff on U.S. chicken exports that, according to the New York Times, forces importers in China to pay twice as much per bird.
The restaurant’s sign was first spotted by TheShanghaiist.com.
Mediaite.com writes that using Obama’s likeness to sell fried chicken could be considered “unacceptably racist,” but this isn’t the first time such a thing has happened.
The Daily Mail article has pictures of U.S. businesses using the exact same name in Brooklyn and Harlem.
And KFC itself used an Obama lookalike in a television commercial that ran in Hong Kong. In that clip, KFC even borrows a sentiment from Obama’s 2008 campain … “Change is good.”

Having lived in Atlanta ALL OF MY LIFE, I have seen racism from all sides of the race aisle. Being a caucasian myself, I have even experienced so-called “reverse discrimination”. Does that both me? Not in the least.
Why is it that “honkey”, “cracker” and “white MF” can be said in our streets and on TV daily with impunity, while someone from ANOTHER culture (country even) can infer that a president likes fried chicken is linked to racism? Guess what, I like chicken too. Since I am not famous, I guess that the Chinese do not want to use my face for their advertising then do they? At least Obama will be remembered past his failed presidency for something other than his extreme liberal leanings and overt attempts to push this country into a European socialist society.
The “they” LL is referring to would include liberal racists like yourself that use slurs against others but feel empowered to lose their minds if a racial tone is even inferred by accident from other groups that do not even understand that their comments could be viewed as such.
I wish Herman Cain would make it to the primary, if anything just to take the race card off the table for liberal racists like yourself. Besides, he would destroy the community organizer in a logical debate in my opinion. Herman Cain represents many conservatives quite well with his positions on the economy and the government’s place in our lives. It would be great for him to run on his own merits rather than be slandered by liberal racists with magnificently thin skins when the tables are turned and logic is used by someone of their own race to address our countries woes. I was born in korea and adopted in 1975 by american/ catholic irish/ white parents. Note the order in which i list it. There are too many Americans who DO NOT view themselves as ‘Americans’, and not all of it sprouts from hatred, but, perhaps b/c they are sometimes reminded they are different than the norm, and this, in return, causes emotions of dislike. Dear God….. When can a man fail in his job simply because he is not up to the task? I really do not care about Obama’s race. He simply does not have what it takes to maintain the office of president. Most of us in this city see it every day first hand.

China has no laws protecting trademarks or patents, their people have no rights and they are able to sell cheap items because they have no unions, no EPA restrictions, and nothing except their government to dictate what is allowed and what is not. It isn’t a picture of O, it’s just a likeness of him, so I seriously doubt there is any kind of legal retribution or action to be taken here. My guess is that they just equate him with fried chicken.

I do acknowledge that not everyone is given the same access to all opportunities, but I disagree with your comment that “A lot of the “haves” earned their wealth off the sweat of someone less fortunate”. Most of the “haves” work hard for what they have, put in 16 hour days, take risks and deal with the losses or successes of it on their own, and provide jobs to those “less fortunate” people. Having a degree doesn’t mean all that much these days, especially depending on what the degree is in and your willingness to work your way up the ladder versus expecting the ideal job to be handed to you. And I do realize that the black community is behind in many ways, but I also realize that a lot of their problems are self-imposed (glorifying criminal behaviors and taunting hard work as “being white”, 70% out of wedlock birth rate guaranteeing a continuation of poverty, an entitlement mentality versus an accomplishment mentality) and none of that can be blamed on anyone else. Everyone can’t be painted with one brush, so I do realize that I can’t say “all” or “none” regarding any situation or group of people, but I do think the majority of Americans have an opportunity to lift themselves up, and it is on them if they do or not, regardless of color.

It is amazing but not surprising just how blindly racist that some of you on this comment page are. “It is foolish for the oppressor to tell you to forget about the oppression that he inflicted upon you”. Until America pays it’s debt to African Americans,accepts her responsibility for the crime against a race of people deemed inferior because of the color of our skin. I have yet to hear a resonable well thought out argument as to why President Obama has single handedly ruined this country. All I hear is the bashing, but nothing founded in facts. He’s the president not a King remember? This place was set up with a system of checks and balances. In other words, the founding fathers didn’t trust each other. And who could really blame them. After all, they just hoodwinked the Native American out of land for some “fire water and a couple of blankets.” Sent the Native Americans on their merry way to the lovely southwestern part of the country. Oh did I mention they made them walk on their trail of tears itinerary?? Then after snatching up the land they, founding fathers/pioneers/land barons/squaters quickly set up “rules” for all to abide by. Funny how no one hollered about immigration laws back then. Oh if the Native Americans only had a “Homeland Security” act written up. Maybe there would have been a fence up along the Atlantic Ocean. I don’t think it is offensive or original. Number one, they stole KFC’s advertising strategy and logo. Secondly, to say it is offensive would be to say that the name Kentucky Fried Chicken is also offensive; it is not a stab at his race in any way.
