CNN doesn’t cover a lot of bake sales, but one in California is getting plenty of media attention.

Half-baked? You decide. (from CNN)
A Republican student group at the University of California at Berkeley (that felt weird to type) is selling cookies and brownies, but the price of the baked goods is based on gender and race.
White men pay the most. Native American women eat free. The price list is in the photo.
The stunt is meant to be racist, discriminatory and get attention, organizers say.
Mission accomplished.
The Republican group is upset that the university, like most government agencies, uses gender and race to determine who gets admitted or hired, reports CNN.
Berkeley’s student government has “condemned” the “use of discrimination whether it is in satire or in seriousness by any student group.”
Proceeds from the sale will go to charity.
The unanswered question? Are those brownies any good? And are they packing the mystery ingredient beloved by 1960s Berkeley protesters?
Probably not. Conservative hash brownies would be news.

Hey, I’ll take my “womanly” discount wherever I can get it these days. The question is, how good are the treats?

Using race should have not been used as a qualifier. Using income would have been better. I find it humorous that people with no money or are on welfare are always screaming for “wealthy” people to bridge the income gap, where as wealthy people generally ask for fair tax rates. Sorry, but across the board taxes sounds fair to me. And if you are on welfare, I believe you should pay the same rate as the wealthiest Americans as you will be supporting the program you live on. What would be really great is if we could vote on our own tax responsibility as an individual. The same options are available for every voter. 10%, 15%, 20%, 25%, 30%, 35%, 40%, 45% and 50%. I wonder how many people that scream the wealthy need to pay more would be willing to pay more themselves. Hypocrisy, thy name is You.

I’m amazed and saddened every time I read some person of color making it sound that all whites have been enriched by slavery. My ancestors came from Scotland, fought for the union, and have never owned slaves or been compensated in any way from industries and businesses that did benefit from slavery. So why should my children pay more to attend a school than someone else who is of a different race, nationality, sex, or religion? Why should they be denied entry to higher education because the spot is reserved for someone else who has not exhibited the same intellectual qualifications demanded from my child? I remember those that resisted desegregation saying that blacks didn’t really want equal treatment, they really wanted special treatment. Programs such as affirmative action, and the excuses that justify such a program, seem to be proof that they were right. I want to live in a world without preference, but if I must live in such a world, I will fight for a world that gives me and mine the preference. When pressed we will all believe accordingly. Fight for equality, not preference.
We can spend our entire lives attempting to erase past wrongs, and we should do so where possible, but we need to understand that life is inherently unfair and some wrongs cannot be fairly erased. Wrongs should be recognized and addressed. However, realize that it is counter-productive to attempt to erase wrongs by creating a whole bunch of new ones (affirmative action). Create equal rules and time will correct the inequities. Also stop stereotyping. Many whites face inequities and discrimination too. Some of us accept that we do not live in a perfect world and we work to better ourselves in spite of that. Lastly, realize that the process takes generations and be resolute, but patient. The inequity was centuries in the making, and as such, cannot be erased overnight. Rome was not built in a day.
This world will be a better place when we stop fighting for preferences that benefit or harm certain groups, forgive past transgressions that cannot now be punished as those that committed the wrongs no longer exist, and commit to treat others equally, without preference.

I’m with DK. I would love to live in a country where everybody is treated equally. A country where race makes no difference. If you are qualified for a job, you get the job based on qualifications. Not because you are the piece to a quota. This is an America that Marin Luther King envisioned. An America that judges men and women on their qualifications. That hard work is rewarded. My relatives came to America in 1923 from Italy. We have never owned slaves. Never will own a slave. It’s ironic the people that demand racial stereotyping is eliminated racially stereotype me based on the color of my skin. As I said earlier, hypocrisy thy name is you.

Affirmative action regardless of guise is discrimmination. But hark, it is only discrimmination if it is the white man benefitting from the action. The University of California at Berkeley would not let the military on campus because the military was against open homosexuality. But look it is ok to discrimminate to keep the democratic plantation happy. They need those minority votes. It is not about fair and the adhering to the constitution but rather the progressive liberal agenda. Keep up the good work young republicans. It is good to see the liberals swallow their own toxic drink.
