Discrimination bake sale half-baked?

CNN doesn’t cover a lot of bake sales, but one in California is getting plenty of media attention.

Half-baked? You decide.

Half-baked? You decide. (from CNN)

A Republican student group at the University of California at Berkeley (that felt weird to type) is selling cookies and brownies, but the price of the baked goods is based on gender and race.

White men pay the most. Native American women eat free. The price list is in the photo.

The stunt is meant to be racist, discriminatory and get attention, organizers say.

Mission accomplished.

The Republican group is upset that the university, like most government agencies, uses gender and race to determine who gets admitted or hired, reports CNN.

Berkeley’s student government has “condemned” the “use of discrimination whether it is in satire or in seriousness by any student group.”

Proceeds from the sale will go to charity.

The unanswered question? Are those brownies any good? And are they packing the mystery ingredient beloved by 1960s Berkeley protesters?

Probably not. Conservative hash brownies would be news.

Funny how things are viewed as Racist when the shoe is on the other foot, and yet people can spew hate and call the Tea Party racist when we have one of the biggest Racist’s in the White House.

Most Whites should be getting tired of this double standard by now!

This is a creative way to bring to light the need to discuss this topic. Perceived fair treatment has gone too far and should be reevaluated to ensure that people are extended opportunities based on the same scale. Wake up America, too much compromise was the demise of Rome.

Kris- “Gee, I feel foolish, I thought it was based on income disparity between the groups. Silly me. I guess that’s why I’m not a Republican – I realize those groups make less therefore can pay less and that education for those groups is a significant part of closing the income gap. But why would I expect a college student to realize that.”

So a rich black man should get to pay less than a poor white man because statistically that race has a lower income? You are what’s wrong with America.

All qualified individuals should get the same treatment, regardless of gender/race/income etc

I wish it were only all about money. Actually these sorts of “Discounts” apply to everything from SAT/ACT scores to GPA. Being a member of a designated class means the bar has been lowered in deference to the stereotype imposed by the feel good liberals. It is a back handed insult to minorities in which liberals are saying they need help because, well you know they just ain’t too ________.

As far as those playing the money redistribution game there is a hilarious video making the rounds where college kids are asked to give up some of their GPA to under performing students to “make it fair”. Needless to say there weren’t any who could draw a parallel between some hard working person giving up their money to others and them giving up their GPA for the same reason. And no they weren’t about to part with their GPA that they had worked hard for.

Great take on a policy that is not longer effective. College entrance should be based on achievement. A friend’s son had a 3.8 GPA, 1800 SAT, tons of extracurricular activites, but he is white and middle class. he got denied into a major GA school, however they accepted the 3 minority students with lower GPAs and SATs and who had few activities. What is up with that?! This bake sale is just a way to show how foolish many of these policies are. The big question, when whites are the minority in 50-75 years, will they get all of benefits that current minorities received today? I think not.

I wonder when college republicans plan to have the “Legacy Admissions” bake sale.

At least they should get the prices right, do they really think that Whites are the ones most discriminated in the admission process? If race were not a factor, Berkeley would have all Asian-Americans student body.

Did they make the price for 0bama Supporters so much less in order to (hopefully) better encourage them to actually pay for items instead of simply TAKE them?
