Introducing the Apple iPlank

A fool and his money are soon parted, said poet Thomas Tusser in 1557.

iHope she got a receipt.

iHope she got a receipt.

Thanks to those who shop for electronics in McDonald’s parking lots, that idiom holds true today.

The Smoking Gun provides the details: Ashley McDowell, from Spartanburg, S.C., was at the fast food restaurant when two men asked her if she wanted to buy an iPad. They showed her a brand new iPad and told her they’d give her one just like it for $300.

She talked them down to $180 and they gave her a FedEx box from the trunk of their Impala.

Lo and behold, when she opened the box, she found out she was an iDiot.

Instead of a much-beloved tablet computer, she was the proud owner of a piece of wood painted black and adorned with Apple and Best Buy stickers.

Police say the scam is unusual only in that the crooks took the time to create a crude facsimile of the sold item.

Note: The original version of this story incorrectly said the men offered to sell a stolen iPad.

Okay they got me too earlier this year on Atlanta Rd at a gas station/truck stop. I felt so stupid when I went home and unwrapped a piece of wood. Yes they fixed them up so nicely with Best Buy stickers and bubblewrap. I keep them still to show people so they won’t make the same mistake.Every deal is not a good one.Well if anyone needs a cutting board let me know.

From looking at The Smoking Gun report, it appears the officer who typed up the report could use to go back to second grade for some grammar lessons.

my wife and i were at a McDonalds in Asheville NC late one night when a nervous and obviously desperate man offered to sell us our choice od diamond rings for $50. He went down to $10 and showed us a jewelry store display box with diamond rings i would guess were 2 to 4 Karats. Also some large rubies and emeralds. My wife and I said no and when we got home we discovered a jewelry store had been robbed in a town about 80 miles away and the rings were real. As far as I know they never caught the thief. This was 1975. My wife got her diamond ring in 1994.
