Sesame Street: Bert & Ernie just ‘friends’

Sesame Street denizens Bert & Ernie are just friends, according to an anonymous spokesman for the eternal children’s program, and will not be getting married.

Just pals.

Pals.

“Bert and Ernie are best friends. They were created to teach preschoolers that people can be good friends with those who are very different from themselves. Even though they are identified as male characters and possess many human traits and characteristics … they remain puppets, and do not have a sexual orientation,” said Sesame Street on its Facebook page Thursday.

The statement was made in response to an online petition calling for Bert and Ernie to get married.

Bert and Ernie could not be reached for comment because they are not people.

Has there ever been a kid who watched Sesame Street and wondered whether Bert and/or Ernie were gay?

Good lord, leave it be.

Rodney:

This is a no judgement, no name calling zone. Nobody’s judging you. Just not agreeing on how you came into the gay lifestyle and trying to make society accept it. You do you. That’s between you and God.

We stand with you Cute Girl1 I think it is obvious the Spirit is not moving in some of these people.
2 Timothy 3:1-7
But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them.

They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over weak-willed women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires, always learning but never able to acknowledge the truth.

I am 44 and never watched Sesame Street as a child. I am Republican, White and Christian. That being said, I have an Uncle-in-law who is gay. I am not a homophobe by no means…..but people let’s get real. Do most American parents want their children watching a children’s program with gay characters? I don’t think so. There is so much wrong and bad in this world…..do we really need our children exposed to this sort of life style? I’m not 100% sure if people are born this way or choose to be this way. Does that even really matter? Gays….or should I be politically?(sorry bout the spelling)correct… GLBT already have a strong foot hold in so many things…..I think what I am really getting to is…..do your thing…I don’t care. Just do not try and recruit my kids! My son loves football and baseball, girls…scary movies and chick flicks. My daughter really loves baseball, Barbi dolls, dances and boys. In summary, live and let live. Peace , Love and 32 Days….. that’s my facebook rock and roll page….. 32 Days :)

Matt – You didn’t choose to be heterosexual in middle school. You happened to be heterosexual and realized it when your hormones kicked in during puberty. If you had been gay, you would have realized that and struggled with it in middle school precisely because people like you denigrate and belittle a fact of nature that people can’t help. What’s disgusting about you and a horse is that you’re making a decision for an animal that can’t decide for itself. Individuals who are homosexual do not wake up one morning and say, “man, I would love to bang someone of my own gender. I think I’ll try that today.” Also, your preference for blondes wouldn’t make you racist as blonde is not a race. It makes you discerning, you know what you like.

Cute Girl – just as your worldview is shaped by your religion, others’ worldviews are shaped by factors in their own lives. You simply misunderstand them because you are unwilling to try to see from their perspective. You also base your worldview on a text that was not passed down from God, but constructed by a group of powerful men in the middle ages so as to remain powerful and keep the peasants from revolting.

Bill – the only reason a minority population (LBGT) might seem insecure is because the religious right is on a constant path to remove, or prevent them from gaining, the same rights you enjoy as a heterosexual male. i.e. marriage and the benefits that go along with that – health benefits, emotional security, tax benefits, etc. In fact, every gay person I know is very secure in their sexuality and identity, even though they had to endure bigotry and hatred from people who want to control the lives of others.

I’m not gay, but I am all for equal rights. A person is a person is a person, and we all deserve to be happy in our lives.

I have no problem with gay people. I support their cause, but transgender people seriously have issues. They need to get a hobby and stop looking to mutilate their bodies to fill some void. Because just because you have your pee pee cut and tucked up inside of you does not mean you’re a woman! And vice versa. Chaz Bono is not a man now!

Cute girl – what arrogance you have to claim to know what/if I chose anything in my life. How plainly can I say it? I did not make any choice about what attracts me.

Which basically means you’re calling me a liar. Saying I chose something, when in fact, I did not

And please – lay off that hate the sin-love the sinner-not judging you BS. Nobody is buying that tired old lie anymore. We know where you’re coming from, and we know we’ll never be able to pull those of you with your beliefs out to the edge of the world to prove to you that it isn’t flat.
