Sesame Street denizens Bert & Ernie are just friends, according to an anonymous spokesman for the eternal children’s program, and will not be getting married.

Pals.
“Bert and Ernie are best friends. They were created to teach preschoolers that people can be good friends with those who are very different from themselves. Even though they are identified as male characters and possess many human traits and characteristics … they remain puppets, and do not have a sexual orientation,” said Sesame Street on its Facebook page Thursday.
The statement was made in response to an online petition calling for Bert and Ernie to get married.
Bert and Ernie could not be reached for comment because they are not people.

HSM:
You better say it! Thanks for the scripture to back up us God-fearing Christians or “right-wing fruitcakes” as someone said earlier.

To those who like to use the example that there are “gay animals” I would also point out many animals eat their young, eat their own feces, etc. Please don’t use animal behavior examples to justify human behavior. Again, from a religious and/or scientific perspective humans are in a higher order. This fouled up usage of comparing us to animals is very ignorant.
Getting back to the original point, there is clearly a disturbed segment that tries to shove ideology down the throats of others. Trying to force an agenda through non-political puppets really is disturbing. Seriously. The irony is that a single digit percentage of the population of this country has a far greater stranglehold on politics and culture than those of a far greater percentage. When we talk about representation on TV, we don’t see Indian Americans or Muslims represented. But we have over half of the shows on the television now including gay characters and talk on homosexuality. I could go on and on with examples. but delving into a childhood classic and telling the show they MUST rewrite two characters as gay? The sad thing is that this whole campaign is solely based on stereotypes. I guarantee you if I went around to every home or apartment saying two men or two women living together MUST be gay I’d be blasted, harassed, called bigot and who knows what other name. Strange that such stereotyping criticized by this group is actually being used to further an agenda.

Rodney – there’s no arguing with those who believe in fairy tales, no matter how compelling your argument. As the saying goes “you can’t reason someone out of a position they weren’t reasoned into”.
Seriously?

Asking someone at what age they chose to be straight is the same as asking someone at what age they chose to be human.
The reason the gay population is increasing is due to the increased amounts of estrogen in our water supplies. Just sayin…
Really?

I thought you christians were taught acceptance? Individuality? Tolerance?
Cute girl – I feel so sorry for your children, to be brought up in such a closed-minded manner by their paranoid mother. You should be teaching them Tolerance. That not everyone is created the same.
So much for your christian upbringing. I believe it’s called brainwashing…..very sad indeed.

There’s no reasoning with people who have their narrow minds already made up.

Rodney:
See I was trying to be nice to you, but you obviously don’t appreciate my effort. That’s cool though. I’m not calling you a liar. That would be considered judging you, which I refuse to do because it’s not my place. I’m just merely saying I don’t agree with how YOU say you came to be gay. And that my dear is my choice, just like it’s your choice to say you were born that way. However, I do have the word of God to back up my choice. What do you have?
