Man alleges Delta employee urinated on luggage

Take the case of Sy Haze, who, in a YouTube video, claims a Delta employee vindictively urinated on his luggage.

Is it true? Did a Mr. Haze actually fly on Delta? It seems so.

Delta answered Wednesday via an email that got caught in my spam filter. I found it Thursday; here’s what it says:

“We are talking with the customer to apologize for the misdirected bag and secure information on the condition in which his bag was returned to identify a cause and offer resolution.”

Haze alleges, in text accompanying the video, that he was flying from London to Minneapolis when an airline employee almost immediately divested him of his luggage, which traveled from London to Boston, back to London, back to Boston and then — four days later — to Minnesota.

Somewhere along the way, someone urinated on it, says Haze, though I didn’t spot any yellow-tinged garments among his camouflage fashion collection.

Haze laments the lack of scratch-and-sniff video technology:  ”[The video] doesn’t do it justice as you cannot smell the stench of urine thru the lens.”

It may smell, but that doesn’t prove a Delta employee actually soiled it. If it is human waste, Haze’s bigger problem may be that he has a fondness for fondling urine-soaked garments on camera.

Just because he flew on Delta, doesn’t mean the bag was handled by Delta. Most of the time, the ramp is contracted out/outsourced to a 3rd party company on their behalf. Considering the route it took, PLUS the fact that it was more than likely delivered to him, there is no telling if it was an actual Delta employee who committed the alleged act. Secondly, he will have a hard time proving that it was in fact a Delta employee. It’s easy to video tape something, throw it up on You Tube and claim negligence just to get something for free or some type of monetary compensation.

Delta has managed to destroy two of my pieces of matched luggage in recent months. Whoever they’ve outsourced this work to is doing a TERRIBLE job.

Yep, just recently travelled with my golf clubs in a hard carrying case. Upon arrival, my case was broken and the handle ripped completely off. Great job Delta!

I once knew someone that worked for Delta. During some kind of labor dispute he bragged about the fact that the workers got up into the cargo hold and urinated on the luggage. This has been going on for years.

I don’t doubt anything about Delta. They have gone from first to worst. I can’t remember the last time I flew with them that did not result in delays or totally bad service.

@CJ – you are absolutely correct about the outsourcing. Back in the day when it was DELTA folks who worked baggage things were top notch.

holbull and everyone else…All airlines have delays, lost baggage, and sometimes poor service. Delays are generally caused by either bad weather which slows down the air traffic control system or by aircraft that require maintenance. Baggage handling is outsourced at many locations, but that does not mean that the service is poor. It seems to me that a few bad experiences by some, are easy targets for frustrated individuals to take cheap shots at an airline. I am certain that passengers that fly other airlines have had similar experiences. Why not remember some of the good experiences that you have had with Delta. If you don’t like the airline, then fly another one…or drive.

Agreed John. I’ve spent the past 12 years travelling practically every week and have run into my share of delays, mishandled bags, and service issues. Overall, Delta gets higher marks than the other carriers, even European carriers such as British Airways and Air France. The current mentality is amazing….everyone expects perfection, but refuses to provide the same. Not sure I could even put up with the attitudes and comments of some airline passengers.

Take some responsibility, put on your big boy pants and act like a mature adult.

The unfortunate football player was singled out, not for his baggy pants, but simply because he was black. I can understand why a parapalegic would not be allowed on a flight because of the distraction caused by his excessive complaining, and a man wearing high heels and panties would be getting more attention than the flight attendents, but a black man in baggy pants should always get a free pass. After all, he has been opressed his entire life and deserves to break any rule he feels like breaking.

My father has been an airline mechanic for over 30 years and those guys affectionally refer to the baggage handlers as the “bag smashers.” He’s been saying that since ***I*** was a kid, so nothing new there.

Their Minneapolis airport is staffed mostly by former Northwest Union folks. I’ve flown through there when they were staging unofficial slow downs. It wouldn’t surprise me if one of them did it.

Wow, i am shocked at the negative comments about a company that employs so many folks in Ga. No one is perfect, and there isn’t a company out there that can say they have never hired a loon or two… unfortunately, things happen, and I would expect this could possibly be another attempt by a disgruntled customer to get something for their troubles… we all have had a bad day/service/flight… but there are better ways to respond than to turn to youtube. Delta does value it’s customer’s. I wish people would be patient and wait for all the facts. If this happened to me, I think the first thing I would do would be to return to the airport and talk to someone in management… not create a video and post it on youtube?

Since the bag handlers have no contact directly with the person who luggage they handle what is the reason to do this. There is also the issue of crossing customs in both England and USA ( Boston ) once or twice . So access to the luggage was at three airports and two countries how exactly was the Delta baggage handler the one who urinated on his luggage determined ?

I left Delta 2 years ago because I had a great opportunity with another company. But I will say that I haven’t flown another airline whenever I can help it. Delta is family. Yes, with the merger there were some issues, especially with union employees who didn’t trust management (in the NWA world, they had reason to).

Most Delta employees work hard, go the extra mile, and want you to have a good experience. They can’t control weather, air traffic delays, or when those of us in the general public show up 30 minutes before a flight and are upset that our bags might not make it.

All airlines involve complicated logistics. If people really understood all that goes on, they would be amazed at how well the system works.

Delta can improve on things – I’m not giving them a free pass. But given the economy they have to prioritize. As a frequent flyer, they have treated me well.

My aunt died recently and they waived all change fees – she wasn’t a “direct” relative and I did not expect them to do so, but personalized service is where it is at.

Recently, I went to pick up My Brother at the local Airport .He came here from California for Our Mother’s Funeral.
I Have Multiple Schlorosis; And I use an Electric Wheelchair
While waiting for His Plane to arive; A Drug Sniffing Dog; Along with It’s Handler; Aproached Me, and Informed Me They intended to Check My Chair, and The backpack behind it for Contraband.
After the Dog Gave Me, and My Chair the once over; The Dog proceeded to Urinate all over My legs and the side of My Wheelchair. Of couse; I raised a little Loud Gesture about it. Aploogies were offered, But No offer to clean up the Mess was made. I wrote a letter to The General Manager, and got NO reply.I think Maybe the Dog May have been Transfered to London? This nis a TRUE story….

So why shouldn’t the customer expect “perfect” service after they have “paid” perfect money? Every person that flys have to pay whatever cost the airline require, and if you don’t pay the exact cost you don’t fly. So again why shouldn’t a person that buys a ticket not expect perfect service?

The planes themselves have to operate at more than a 6 sigma level of perfection. The baggage handling should be no less in quality.

I find it hard to believe someone would make this up. I stayed at a Vegas hotel where I let a worker into the room to change a lightbulb, then I headed out to my meeting, came back late and the worker had urinated into the whirlpool tub. There are some sick people that get hired into these behind the scenes ’service’ jobs…

i work there and i can attest that there are alota monkeyshines goin on out there on the tarmack ! it is literly a 3 ring circus . if your bag even makes it to its final destination its an f’n miracle .carry 1 carry on thats it .

Never flying Delta ever again! Never traveling through Atlanta ever again! Spending a night in the Atlanta airport was an absolute nightmare. If Delta flight had taken off on time this wouldn’t have happened. Gate attendants and Delta service desk people were abhorrent. There is no need for me to ever pay for their services again. And, FYI, their CEO makes about 252% more than their employees (Check the CEO database yourself!) This is what happens when you run a greed based enterprise.

The employees of DL feel so entitled. That attitude carries over to the way they treat their customers. I was recently on a DL flght in economy class. I needed to take some medication, and TSA had taken my bottled water, so I rang the bell for service. One hour later I arrived at my destination and no one had come to assist me.When I brought it to the flight Attendant’s attention she balked at me; mean mugged me and continued to thank us for flying DL. I have not and will not fly DL again. I can’t wait for SouthWest to get into the ATL market. They’re going to run DL into the ground. Karma is a never ending Beotch.!!!!!!
