Forget global warming, ‘Little Ice Age’ to begin in 10 years

Global warming may mean beachfront property in Macon someday, but the Earth may have to go through a cold spell first.

Polar bears would have plenty of good eating if they'd made it to London during the late 1600s.

Polar bears would have had plenty to eat if they'd made it to London during the late 1600s.

Fox Nation sums up the complicated science with this low-key headline: Global Warming Be Damned, We Might Be Headed for a Mini Ice Age

According to the pocket-protector crowd at the annual meeting of the solar physics division of the American Astronomical Society, the sun, due to reduced sunspot activity, is going to be a bit cooler soon.

When? Maybe as soon as 2021, or never.

How much cooler will the Earth get if sunspot activity decreases? No one knows exactly, but probably a fraction of a degree Celsius, which probably isn’t enough to lure another NHL franchise to Atlanta.

But, the last time such a thing happened, in the late 17th Century, the good folks of London were ice skating on the Thames and villages in the Swiss Alps were destroyed by expanding glaciers.

Wired Magazine throws ice water on the heated discussion with this exciting headline: Sunspot Drop Won’t Cause Global Cooling

At most, reduced sunspots will offset rising global temperatures for a few years, perhaps a couple decades, said NASA climatologist David Rind in the Wired article.

“To point to this as something that could in any way ameliorate greenhouse gas warming is folly,” said climatologist Michael Mann of Penn State University.

I guess I’ll keep the snow skis in the attic.

Global warming is an INCORRECT term. The correct terminology for what we are experiencing is Global Climate Change. I challenge and encourage you to read the UN report. Until you do that, you are talking about something that you know nothing about. Educate yourselves….and that does not mean “tune in to Fox news”. What has happened to informed and accurate journalism???

UGA…. if you are going to lie you need to phrase it correctly. Try this.

It’s a fact, 25 years ago everyone thought we were heading into another ice age, you can look it up.

I thought we covered the most effective way to spew lies and have others believe them was to frame your lie with “It’s a fact”….. and …..”you can look it up”.

When I was in school, we were taught that the earth tends to run in 30-year warming/cooling cycles. Now given that the first Earth Day in 1970 – 41 years ago – was decrying the new ice age we were plunging ourselves into, this would be just about the time people would start sounding the alarms for that nonsense again.

Suit yourselves, but I will not take part in this Chicken Little, crisis-all-the-time attitude foisted on us.

When I was taking geology in college back in 79 they were talking about the coming “Ice Age” back then. The global warming fiasco, started by dubious scientists/professors eager for research grant money came next. Of course the progressives and alarmists drank that kool-aid down with gusto and chastised anyone who dared disagreed with their “experts” or questioned their data/assumptions, or computer modeling, even when the experts were caught in their collusive scam via hi-jacked e-mails . When the alarmists predictions of rising sea levels due to the massive melting of the Arctic ice pac never panned out,( other than the normal ebb & flow) they changed their terminology to “Climate Change”. Well I guess we’ve come full circle because we are back to the Ice Age scam. Puhleaze! The truth is its always been about money and what the “experts”, ie: scientists and professors, can get the government or any other foundation to pay them to study the problem and recommend their prescriptions to fix it which always includes some type of anti-capitalist draconian measure akin to everybody turning in their cars and living on solar farms.
Al Gore got rich in politics but became a multi-gazillionaire when he perpetrated this mess of “global warming/climate change” unto the great unwashed. Well I will give up my SUV when you pry my “cold, dead fingers off of the steering wheel”. Signed: Too Fat to Ride In A Prius.

The biggest obstacle for sincere Global Warming acolytes is the Chicken-Little approach employed for decades regarding environmental catastrophies. Honest people who are genuinely concerned about the climate and environment have been infiltrated by anti-science, political hacks.
Anti-capitalists have championed the cause of Global Warming as a way to further their political agenda to the detriment of any real science. Now we (the public) are left with the unenviable task of sorting out the true science from the politicized science.
There are too many willing accomplices wishing to use Climate Change to further their socio-economic agenedas. This is how Al Gore’s movie “An Inconvineint Truth” has been used as educational material.
The majority of people want to be considered good stewards of the Earths resources, however, when hysterical claims are made, and then reversed, you wind up with Chicken Little and the Boy Who Cried Wolf.
Sincere scientists need to be dis-avowing these opportunists and get to the Correct Truth.

Absence of ice over the northern pole can be seen if people would look at maps of previous ice ages.
It is not one big blob of ice dumped on top of the planet like a topping on ice cream.

They are bands of ice in North America and Europe that sit lower than that.
Check the maps.

Disappearing ice at the northern pole can actually be seen as a sign of major climate shift towards cooling in those areas.

Observer, I agreed with everything you said until the “World Order” thing. I don’t see many politicians campaigning on weather issues anymore (since Shallow Al). And I certainly don’t think that President Obama is trying to create any “World Order”. If you have proof, give evidence. I don’t think either major party is trying to do anything other than pad their own narcissistic pockets. But I also don’t think that humans are causing “Global Warming”. We’ve been warming since the last Ice Age. And the cycle towards the next Ice Age will continue. We may get slightly warmer before the cooling begins, but NY will be under a mile of ice in 100,000 years or less. Why are we humans so arrogant on one hand, and so self-depreciating on the other?!?!?!

Definitive Proof: Majority Of Scientists Do Not Support Man Made Warming Theory
Survey of peer reviewed studies reveals less than 50% of published scientists believe global warming is man made. More skeptics than advocates among scientific community while IPCC claim majority endorse the theory.
Steve Watson

A new survey of over 500 peer reviewed scientific research papers on climate change, written between 2004 and 2007, has concluded that less than half endorse what has been dubbed the “consensus view,” that human activity is contributing to considerable global climate change.
In direct conflict with assertions by the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) that a scientific consensus agrees it is 90% likely that man is responsible for warming, Medical researcher Dr. Klaus-Martin Schulte’s survey contends that only 45% support the theory and that is only if you include papers that merely lean towards endorsement.
Though the survey has not yet been released, the results have been submitted to the journal Energy and Environment, and science blog DailyTech has obtained a pre-publication copy which states:
Of 528 total papers on climate change, only 38 (7%) gave an explicit endorsement of the consensus. If one considers “implicit” endorsement (accepting the consensus without explicit statement), the figure rises to 45%. However, while only 32 papers (6%) reject the consensus outright, the largest category (48%) are neutral papers, refusing to either accept or reject the hypothesis. This is no “consensus.”
The figures are even more shocking when one remembers the watered-down definition of consensus here. Not only does it not require supporting that man is the “primary” cause of warming, but it doesn’t require any belief or support for “catastrophic” global warming. In fact of all papers published in this period (2004 to February 2007), only a single one makes any reference to climate change leading to catastrophic results.

The introduction and the summary of the IPCC’s report was written entirely by politicians under the mandate of the UN, the input of actual scientists was minimal. In addition, all sections that were written by selected scientists were edited to comply with the report summary.
Some of the scientists involved even admitted that the IPCC models failed to accurately predict climate change and that “none of the climate states in the models corresponds even remotely to the current observed climate”.
By contrast, the ISI Web of Science database covers 8,700 journals and publications, including every leading scientific journal in the world and is not directly influenced by any governmental body.

“tired of misuse of term”, I don’t know what planet you live on. Maybe one run by the UN. But if you base your decisions on the UN’s policies, you’re sadly misguided. The underlying policy of the UN is to shift the world’s wealth from the US and other industrial nations, to third-world nations. It’s the “Robbing Hood” effect. The UN wants to tax the US and give it to Africa under the guise of Climate Change.

Because the movememt is anti- capitalist, anti- U.S., etc. Take a look at the political background of a lot of people worldwide that are in green movements. Policy-makers and the public who are not members of the relevant research community have had to form opinions about the reality of global climate change on the basis of often conflicting descriptions provided by the media regarding the level of scientific certainty attached to studies of climate. In this Essay, Oreskes analyzes the existing scientific literature to show that there is a robust consensus that anthropogenic global climate change is occurring. Thus, despite claims sometimes made by some groups that there is not good evidence that Earth’s climate is being affected by human activities, the scientific community is in overwhelming agreement that such evidence is clear and persuasive.

Stern Review on the Economics of Climate Change

The first half of the Review focuses on the impacts and risks arising from uncontrolled climate change, and on the costs and opportunities associated with action to tackle it. A sound understanding of the economics of risk is critical here. The Review emphasises that economic models over timescales of centuries do not offer precise forecasts – but they are an important way to illustrate the scale of effects we might see. The Review finds that all countries will be affected by climate change, but it is the poorest countries that will suffer earliest and most.

… the Review calculates that the dangers of unabated climate change would be equivalent to at least 5% of GDP each year.

… the dangers could be equivalent to 20% of GDP or more.

…In contrast, the costs of action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to avoid the worst impacts of climate change can be limited to around 1% of global GDP each year.

…People would pay a little more for carbon-intensive goods, but our economies could continue to grow strongly.

….Emerging schemes that allow people to trade reductions in CO2 have demonstrated that there are many opportunities to cut emissions for less than $25 a tonne. In other words, reducing emissions will make us better off.

…According to one measure, the benefits over time of actions to shift the world onto a low-carbon path could be in the order of $2.5 trillion each year.

The shift to a low-carbon economy will also bring huge opportunities. Markets for low-carbon technologies will be worth at least $500bn, and perhaps much more, by 2050 if the world acts on the scale required. Tackling climate change is the pro-growth strategy; ignoring it will ultimately undermine economic growth.
