Atlanta mail carriers good at avoiding dog bites

Atlanta, despite the tragic headlines, must have some well-behaved pooches.

That, or we have fast mailmen.

Omaha Steak deliveries are their favorite.

Today, the United States Postal Service announced Atlanta dogs have not bitten enough carriers to crack the Top 25 mangled mail carrier list.

For those who’ve had a Pekingese shred an Achilles tendon, it’s no laughing matter.

“Beyond the needless pain and suffering, medical expenses from dog attacks cost the Postal Service nearly $1.2 million last year. According to the Insurance Information Institute, dog attacks accounted for more than one-third of all homeowners’ insurance liability claims paid out in 2010, costing nearly $413 million,” the USPS wrote in a press release.

So what cities let the bad dogs out? Houston has quite a comfortable lead, followed by San Diego, Columbus, Ohio, and Los Angeles.

Atlanta numbers were not provided, but the real reason we’re not on the list is likely because the city limits of Atlanta are so small when compared to other major cities.
