Gadhafi children pay Usher, Mariah Carey big bucks

I wouldn’t turn down a cool million to sing for anyone, but the list of pop stars that performed for the kids of Libyan leader Col. Moammar Gadhafi is interesting.

For $1 million, you can do better.

For $1 million, you can do better.

The New York Times, citing cables obtained by WikiLeaks, says songstress Mariah Carey was paid $1 million to belt out four songs on the Caribbean island of St. Barts for Gadhafi’s son, Seif al-Islam, whom you may remember from the rambling speech that kicked off the recent carnage.

Another son, Muatassim, Libya’s national security adviser, allegedly hired Beyoncé and Usher to entertain at another New Year’s bash.

One can only assume Mariah and the gang have never heard of the bombing of Pan Am flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland.

I don’t know about you, but if I have a million to blow, I’m hiring Wilco, or at least Son Volt for my Tyco-like throw-down.

If you’re going to pay that much, you should know that it’s spelled ‘Son Volt’

Money is God for most in the entertainment field. They’ll forsake all ethics/values (if any) if the price is right. Sickening. Pleading ignorance is NOT good enough. Don’t the sycophants who work for these singers have a clue? Couldn’t they fill in these celebs? I guess everyone just wants to GET PAID.

you sir, are a douchebag!! gadhafi blew up a plane with american citizens on it, makin’ him an enemy of america. his “seeds”, (sons) are surely share in his “love” for america. for an american citizen to take money from an enemy who killed citizens is a damn shame.

what usher and mariah have done is similar to what jane fonda did when she was takin’ effin pictures with the viet congs, while we were at war.

It is pretty interesting the comment that “ant banks” made about Gadhafi’s son’s being enemies of America because of what their father did. Well would’nt that make the son’s/daughters of White folks that raped, hanged and dehumanized black people responsible too??? America was built off the greed of white folks. What….only white folks can secure capital by any means necessary!! Wake up!!!

that is the way of the world. henry ford got rich off the backs of his “slaves”, jerry buss, the owner of the lakers, is gettin’ rich off his “slaves.” the founder of facebook, is gettin’ paid of the backs of his “slaves”. if you are a business owner and you have “slaves” workin’ for you, YOU are gettin’ rich off their backs. you ain’t payin’ them what you are gettin. will you. and if you are a “slave” of some company you won’t “run away.” lol. what folks making money off of slaves back?

There’s public schools for you…check the facts: less than 1% of the souther population prior to 1861 had slaves of any kind – that’s right, less than 1 (ONE)%.

And what about the tribes that captured other other tribes and sold them to the French who sold them to NORTHERN ships who sold them to the FEW who could afford to own a slave? Again, check your facts not your hatred.

It was all wrong.

However, these people have a right (its Capitalism and it works) to sell their services to whom they choose so long as they don’t violate the laws of the US and State Department. As consumers we have the right to say “we don’t agree and won’t support you” or “I don’t care I just like the beat”.

Slavery is not something that should be swept under the rug. It is a part of our history. It’s sad that people died on the plane crash, but millions of slaves died on the passage here & the in humane manner in which they were treated should not be over looked. We have enough mess in our on yard here in America, but we’re so quick to judge others. It’s all tragic to me, lives lost are lives lost whether it was slavery or plane crashes. I am a Caucasian, Republican lady who was born & raised in the south. I would not personally have performed for them, but who am I to judge. I also would not have participated in slavery. Let’s work together on solving the issues here in our nation; homelessness, poverty, classism, lack of adequate healthcare, poor morals, lack of values etc.

Moammar Gadhafi’s sons actually work for him – and would like to take over where he’s left off.

unlike your foolish example – the majority of white people were against slavery and fought to end it.

That’s like saying since black people are always robbing fast food resturants their kids are crooks too.

Forgive me if my calculations are a bit off, but Gadhafi is alive today and has the blood and hundreds (perhaps thousands) and growing on his hands. Those who held slaves in America are long dead and probably their children and most of their grandchildren. No one alive today has ever enslaved anybody…

and incidentally the entire country, not just the south reaped the benefits of enslaving their fellow man…slavery would have died out long before the 1860s if British and New England textile mills didn’t have a need for southern cotton.

Furthermore, because someone else has done wrong in the past, that somehow excuses others from doing wrong in the present? Is that what we teach our kids now.

Somehow I figure if I were on trial for the commission of a crime I don’t envision that argument being an acceptable offense. “Yeah, I robbed that guy, but other people have robbed people, Madoff robbed people so get a life…” I’m betting the jury is going to convict anyway

ant banks, I think you need to get a dictionary and learn what a slave is. The educational system in this country can’t be that bad, that you don’t know the difference between people who are kidnapped, tortured, and forced to work for someone, and those who freely choose to work in a certain field. Slaves do not have freedom, that’s what makes them slaves.

Why is it that every article on this site is filled with racist ignorance?

Slavery shouldn’t even be part of this discussion, but since it’s been injected into the conversation, let’s get our facts correct, shall we.

“Just Sayin” said: There’s public schools for you…check the facts: less than 1% of the southern population prior to 1861 had slaves of any kind – that’s right, less than 1 (ONE)%.

I have NO IDEA what schools – public or private – you attended, but you should sue them for educational neglect. Your data is correct but the population is wrong. Actually 1.5% of the ENTIRE US POPULATION owned slaves according to the 1860 US Census. However, 33% of Southern families owned slaves.

This is the more accurate figure. The percentage is reduced when you talk about a single slave owner (i.e., the father or head of the household). But the entire family, of course, benefited from having slaves. So using the “slave holding families” category is more accurate and representative of the true picture of slavery in our nation.

Now, back to the real debate of this blog: Should Mariah, Usher and Beyonce be vilified for performing for Ghadafi’s sons.

Diane

February 25th, 2011
12:54 am

GA n VA: Whatever the story, it’s true! I know, it wasn’t anyone in your family so you don’t care, WE need to just get over it right?!?! That’s part of the problem. You and your kind still think nothing of it since it didn’t happen to you. Tell the survivors or the families of the Holocaust to “just get over it”, oh wait….I forgot that was a REAL crime, slavery was LEGAL & Holocaust survivors got reparations, slaves didn’t and not even an apology to their families.
As for Mariah, Beyonce, and Usher: Yes, they should be ashamed taking money from terrorists. They think the rest of the world won’t find out they simply don’t care where their millions come from & yes, they’ve sold their souls in many different ways. These idiots have respect for the entertainers they like, but not the rest of America. I dont’ know how these dumb butts (entertainers) can even feel safe going over there because if “ish” jumps off, they’ll be American real quick & treated like the rest of us. It’s blood money too.
ant banks: It’s Viet Cong (no S), it’s already plural & no I wasn’t educated in the South, guess that’s how I know (Lol) on the point of public education cause I don’t think it’s worth crap either.
I guess I just agree on parts with everybody, so now let’s all play nice. These people have their money and will pay the cost someday.
“What does it profit a man to gain the world and lose his soul”…..

Diane

February 25th, 2011

just sayin’: the debate could go on forever & let’s not even get into how Mr. Lincoln who “freed” the slaves continued to own HIS after the Emancipation Proclamation (double standard).
NOW, as you stated the real issue: Should these entertainers be vilified for taking money from terrorists? I remember when Beyonce was going to do a concert for one of them & backed out at the last minute when her fanbase (money source) started turning on her when they found out about it. Otherwise, she would’ve taken it, so I guess she’s done it or was asked to more than once. She bought her husband a $1.2 million dollar car for his birthday and made $90 mil last year alone, not to mention her spouse’s $80 mil last year, so they’re not hurting for money. Meaning: it’s simply greed!

Why are you folks so naive to think that someone called these entertainer’s agents and said, “hey, Gadhafi’s son wants you to perform for him at his hotel for a cool million”. That’s just not the way it works for the terrorist types. The way that they avoid catching bullets from the folks who want them dead is to keep a low profile when not on their home turf. If you readily believe that any American entertainer would willingly perform for a known terrorist murderer, you probably already have an inclination to being pessimistic against seemingly overpaid entertainers, particularly, African American entertainers.

Leave these Arab countries alone they are brothers so let’s not get in a family battle or they will join together and fight us. There are no laws in place that prohibit entertaining world leaders- there are Americans living and working in Libya and Egypt needing evacuation, what were they doing living there?
