I wouldn’t turn down a cool million to sing for anyone, but the list of pop stars that performed for the kids of Libyan leader Col. Moammar Gadhafi is interesting.
For $1 million, you can do better.
The New York Times, citing cables obtained by WikiLeaks, says songstress Mariah Carey was paid $1 million to belt out four songs on the Caribbean island of St. Barts for Gadhafi’s son, Seif al-Islam, whom you may remember from the rambling speech that kicked off the recent carnage.
Another son, Muatassim, Libya’s national security adviser, allegedly hired Beyoncé and Usher to entertain at another New Year’s bash.
One can only assume Mariah and the gang have never heard of the bombing of Pan Am flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland.
I don’t know about you, but if I have a million to blow, I’m hiring Wilco, or at least Son Volt for my Tyco-like throw-down.

Why are you folks so naive to think that someone called these entertainer’s agents and said, “hey, Gadhafi’s son wants you to perform for him at his hotel for a cool million”. That’s just not the way it works for the terrorist types. The way that they avoid catching bullets from the folks who want them dead is to keep a low profile when not on their home turf. If you readily believe that any American entertainer would willingly perform for a known terrorist murderer, you probably already have an inclination to being pessimistic against seemingly overpaid entertainers, particularly, African American entertainers.

Gee Sam in GA, where would most blacks in this country be if some of their ancestors had not been brought to this country as slaves? When are you going to stop using the slave card???? these entertainers get exactly what they deserve and I am so glad I never bought anything they recorded.

and, notsocrazy, are you really that naive? Both performers mentioned in the article are mult-racial which means they are not African Americans. They are Americans

Speaking of doing anything for money…..U.S. soldiers are killed every day protecting oil reserves, (i.e. money) not democracy. So start boycotting gasoline. This is peanuts compared to what our government does every day.

Ummmm… I just read that the Gadhafi kids own a Coca Cola franchise, does this make coke tainted? Enrique Iglesias (not sure of the spellig) also performed for them.
Also one of the charitable foundations run by the Gadhafi kids donated tons of aid to earthquake ravaged Haiti.
Not taking sides just pointing things out. I’m sure if we dig deep enough as one blogger stated we will find lots of other folks who have performed for “not so good” people.

What does the average American know about another country’s history and civil war? Leave these Arab countries alone they are brothers so let’s not get in a family battle or they will join together and fight us. There are no laws in place that prohibit entertaining world leaders- there are Americans living and working in Libya and Egypt needing evacuation, what were they doing living there? American businesses profit from Libyan citizens and government- why make an example of black entertainers, point the finger at the bigger monsters like Verizon, AT&T, and Microsoft.

If you guys had any talent, you would have taken the money too. Stop trying to play God. Trying to tell others what they should do when you aren’t doing the right thing yourself

We give Libya millions because of our addiction to oil, but we can’t get some back without being called immoral. It’s immoral to give Libya the money in the first place.
