I wouldn’t turn down a cool million to sing for anyone, but the list of pop stars that performed for the kids of Libyan leader Col. Moammar Gadhafi is interesting.
For $1 million, you can do better.
The New York Times, citing cables obtained by WikiLeaks, says songstress Mariah Carey was paid $1 million to belt out four songs on the Caribbean island of St. Barts for Gadhafi’s son, Seif al-Islam, whom you may remember from the rambling speech that kicked off the recent carnage.
Another son, Muatassim, Libya’s national security adviser, allegedly hired Beyoncé and Usher to entertain at another New Year’s bash.
One can only assume Mariah and the gang have never heard of the bombing of Pan Am flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland.
I don’t know about you, but if I have a million to blow, I’m hiring Wilco, or at least Son Volt for my Tyco-like throw-down.

Beyonce, Usher and Mariah were paid 1 million to sing for Gadhafi’s sons? Would it be okay if say Justin Beiber performed for Ted Bundy or someone perform for Charles Manson if they put up the $$$? Or is it the attitude of people in this country that because it is over in Libya or some other place that they should not care? Have a conscience.

That million only covered Mariah Carey’s food for a meal.

ant banks, I think you need to get a dictionary and learn what a slave is. The educational system in this country can’t be that bad, that you don’t know the difference between people who are kidnapped, tortured, and forced to work for someone, and those who freely choose to work in a certain field. Slaves do not have freedom, that’s what makes them slaves.
Why is it that every article on this site is filled with racist ignorance?

Slavery shouldn’t even be part of this discussion, but since it’s been injected into the conversation, let’s get our facts correct, shall we.
“Just Sayin” said: There’s public schools for you…check the facts: less than 1% of the southern population prior to 1861 had slaves of any kind – that’s right, less than 1 (ONE)%.
I have NO IDEA what schools – public or private – you attended, but you should sue them for educational neglect. Your data is correct but the population is wrong. Actually 1.5% of the ENTIRE US POPULATION owned slaves according to the 1860 US Census. However, 33% of Southern families owned slaves.
This is the more accurate figure. The percentage is reduced when you talk about a single slave owner (i.e., the father or head of the household). But the entire family, of course, benefited from having slaves. So using the “slave holding families” category is more accurate and representative of the true picture of slavery in our nation.
Now, back to the real debate of this blog: Should Mariah, Usher and Beyonce be vilified for performing for Ghadafi’s sons.

GA n VA: Whatever the story, it’s true! I know, it wasn’t anyone in your family so you don’t care, WE need to just get over it right?!?! That’s part of the problem. You and your kind still think nothing of it since it didn’t happen to you. Tell the survivors or the families of the Holocaust to “just get over it”, oh wait….I forgot that was a REAL crime, slavery was LEGAL & Holocaust survivors got reparations, slaves didn’t and not even an apology to their families.
As for Mariah, Beyonce, and Usher: Yes, they should be ashamed taking money from terrorists. They think the rest of the world won’t find out they simply don’t care where their millions come from & yes, they’ve sold their souls in many different ways. These idiots have respect for the entertainers they like, but not the rest of America. I dont’ know how these dumb butts (entertainers) can even feel safe going over there because if “ish” jumps off, they’ll be American real quick & treated like the rest of us. It’s blood money too.
ant banks: It’s Viet Cong (no S), it’s already plural & no I wasn’t educated in the South, guess that’s how I know (Lol) on the point of public education cause I don’t think it’s worth crap either.
I guess I just agree on parts with everybody, so now let’s all play nice. These people have their money and will pay the cost someday.

just sayin’: the debate could go on forever & let’s not even get into how Mr. Lincoln who “freed” the slaves continued to own HIS after the Emancipation Proclamation (double standard).
NOW, as you stated the real issue: Should these entertainers be vilified for taking money from terrorists? I remember when Beyonce was going to do a concert for one of them & backed out at the last minute when her fanbase (money source) started turning on her when they found out about it. Otherwise, she would’ve taken it, so I guess she’s done it or was asked to more than once. She bought her husband a $1.2 million dollar car for his birthday and made $90 mil last year alone, not to mention her spouse’s $80 mil last year, so they’re not hurting for money. Meaning: it’s simply greed!

Look at all you hypocrites….America was founded on theft, money, and murder. You better go buy a horse then. You do buy gas? You’re filling the pockets of our enemies daily. America is full of idiots with bigoted causes. STFU and keep supporting capitalism, poverty, and bigotry. That’s all Americans are good for anyway.
