I wouldn’t turn down a cool million to sing for anyone, but the list of pop stars that performed for the kids of Libyan leader Col. Moammar Gadhafi is interesting.
For $1 million, you can do better.
The New York Times, citing cables obtained by WikiLeaks, says songstress Mariah Carey was paid $1 million to belt out four songs on the Caribbean island of St. Barts for Gadhafi’s son, Seif al-Islam, whom you may remember from the rambling speech that kicked off the recent carnage.
Another son, Muatassim, Libya’s national security adviser, allegedly hired Beyoncé and Usher to entertain at another New Year’s bash.
One can only assume Mariah and the gang have never heard of the bombing of Pan Am flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland.
I don’t know about you, but if I have a million to blow, I’m hiring Wilco, or at least Son Volt for my Tyco-like throw-down.

Moammar Gadhafi’s sons actually work for him – and would like to take over where he’s left off.
unlike your foolish example – the majority of white people were against slavery and fought to end it.
That’s like saying since black people are always robbing fast food resturants their kids are crooks too.
You sound like a “sista with a chip on her shoulder”

Quit talking about slaves. My house is a mess and you’re making me want a few.

an educated southern lady
sweetheart – i know you mean well – but maybe you haven’t figured it out. We don’t come on blogs to solve the issues here in our nation; homelessness, poverty, classism, lack of adequate healthcare, poor morals, lack of values etc.
we come on here to give our opinions and say silly things.
Why don’t you go get yourself a facebook account and maybe you can spread the word that you wnat to save America. A blog is certainly not the place you are going to accomplish this.
PS; I’ll bet a million dollars you are not “Caucasian, Republican lady who was born & raised in the south.” Just like I’m not downlouis. ;>)

If we dig back long enough. these 3 – Beyonce-Usher-Mariah — are not the only entertainers that that have performed for blood money. If the Investigator Reporters did their job – they would find a list of – R&B POP COUNTRY and CLASSICAL artists who have done the same.
I hate it when the newspaper only report part of the story

Traci – I’m interested. Name those other artists and send links showing who-what-where. Of those you named, I doubt COUNTRY artists would peform for blood money as they seem to be the most patriotic of the lot. I, too, hate when the media only reports part of a story but I guess not EVERY story can include all previous similar acts.
To the buffoons who are even discussing slavery under this topic, take your meds. This has NOTHING to do with that.

If you think American celebrities should not take blood money from terrorists, simply boycott their music.

What a shame. Maybe they can sell their sould to Bin Laden too? I certainly will never feel the same about these performers again, nor buy their CD’s or tickets. What happened to LOYALTY to OUR COUNTRY??? Of which they are apart.

And how many people in LIBYA are going without food and amenities while these celebrities line their pockets?? Apparently no shame as long as they pay big bucks. I used to think so highly of Usher until I read this.

Forgive me if my calculations are a bit off, but Gadhafi is alive today and has the blood and hundreds (perhaps thousands) and growing on his hands. Those who held slaves in America are long dead and probably their children and most of their grandchildren. No one alive today has ever enslaved anybody…
and incidentally the entire country, not just the south reaped the benefits of enslaving their fellow man…slavery would have died out long before the 1860s if British and New England textile mills didn’t have a need for southern cotton.
Furthermore, because someone else has done wrong in the past, that somehow excuses others from doing wrong in the present? Is that what we teach our kids now.
Somehow I figure if I were on trial for the commission of a crime I don’t envision that argument being an acceptable offense. “Yeah, I robbed that guy, but other people have robbed people, Madoff robbed people so get a life…” I’m betting the jury is going to convict anyway

Sick. Would they have sung for Hitler or Stalin if they paid enough? Sick.
