When I was a kid, we were shown the “Endless Love” trailer at a Muppets movie. My mother was horrified! I was riveted!
Families in Florida showed up to see “Frozen” and instead of a Mickey Mouse short, got a “sexually explicit scene.” (AWESOME!)
“According to WTVT, a “sexually explicit scene” from another movie somehow ran in place of an animated Mickey Mouse short that accompanies and precedes the hit film.
The mix-up at the Regal Park Cinemas Park Place Stadium in Pinellas Park reportedly caused some parents to “rush their children to the exits.”
A spokesperson for the Regal Cinemas theater chain said the inappropriate scene was part of another R-rated movie that was played accidentally.
Regal representatives say the sexually charged scene played for less than two minutes, but the damage was done.
Lynn Greene told WTVT she brought her grandchildren to the show and tried to hide them from the scene, “It seemed like forever when you’re trying to, you know, cover a little guy’s eyes” she said. “I didn’t have enough hands to cover his ears too and he got the sound down real good.”
The theater did give those in the audience free movie tickets to compensate them for their troubles.
So this totally happened to me as a kid! I vividly remember going to a Muppets movie and being shown a trailer to “Endless Love!” See the trailer above. It is horrifying. The music alone is super creepy to listen to with kids. This trailer is 4:38 seconds long. That must have seemed like forever sitting next to your kid.
(I don’t remember which Muppets movie but totally know it was “Endless Love “ in the preview. According to the IMDB it must have been “The Great Muppet Caper” because it was released the same year.)
It was 1981 so I was 9 and knew what sex was but didn’t know much about it. So here you go, young people stripped down going at it on the floor! (How could that have been approved for all audiences? It had to be a mistake!!) I remember my mother being horrified and complaining during and after about why would they show that before a kids’ movie?
To this day, I have never actually seen “Endless Love” yet I totally know they did it on carpet with the mother watching (CREEPY!!!!) because this trailer was burned into my impressionable young brain!
So have you ever seen an inappropriate clip or preview before a children’s movie? What would you have done? Would you have ushered them out to the bathroom for the four-minute “Endless Love” trailer?
