Throwing a Dawg-gone good party for UGA vs. Clemson!

I bought this platter off of Etsy from Gameday Girl Designs. She has platters for LSU and Alabama. She even has designs for those Gators but I don't like talking about them.

So I bought the wreath off of Etsy from Sweet Georgia Sweet. She has loads of cute things for your house. Then I got black tablecloths from Wal-Mart and fabric from Hobby Lobby. I'm doing the white and black fabric as a runner for my buffet and dining table and then the red dots as a runner on the kitchen table. I think I can use the red again at Christmastime.

We’re trying not to be too sad that we can’t attend Georgia games in person this year so we’re throwing a big SEC Opening Day/ UGA vs. Clemson party on Saturday.

We don’t know that many Georgia fans out here so we’ve had to expand to Pac-12 and Big 10 fans as well. We did invite Rose’s social studies teacher because he was born in Athens. We’ll see if he shows. I’ve only met him once.

Michael is focusing on the liquor, the TV and cleaning the dog poop out of the yard. We plan to swim and watch games from the pool. He’s got a plan. I can’t wait to see what he rigs up.

We wrote in the Evite: “We’ll have bourbon for the SEC fans, beer for those of you from Big 10 country and wine for the Pac-12 folks. And we’ll try to find some RC Cola and Moon Pies for any Clemson fans.” (We’re just kidding. Don’t be offended Clemson fans. We don’t actually have any Clemson fans attending.)

We added “We’ll be changing the channels a lot, but some of the big games include:

Syracuse vs. Penn State
Alabama vs. Va. Tech
Texas Christian vs. LSU
Washington St. vs. Auburn
And the main event begins at 5 p.m.: Georgia at Clemson”

While he’s working on the outdoors, I’ve been focusing on food and decorating.

I’ve been working all week on Southern favorites such as pulled pork sandwiches, wings, my mama’s potato salad, and speedy cracker pie. (Do you guys know this recipe or is it a crazy family one?) I’ve got a 10-pound pork butt that I hit with a spice rub for 24 hours and then slow-cooked in until it fall apart. I’ve got 8 pounds of chicken wings but I can’t decide if I need more.

Michael said no to boiled peanuts as a snack but I think it would be cute, and I really do like them. (I’m going to sneak some out.) I would love some southern cheese straws but I don’t know a bakery here that sells them, and I don’t want to make them from scratch.

I’m adding into the mix my favorite Alton Brown guacamole and The Pioneer Woman’s Monster Cookies.

I found on Etsy the cutest UGA cloth wreath. She has other wreaths for SEC schools as well so check her out. I haven’t hung it yet because we keep having afternoon dust storms and I don’t want it ruined! I also bought on Etsy a melamine tray with the Bulldog and our name on it. (I don’t think I actually want to put food on it, it’s so cute.)

I got black tablecloths from Walmart and then bought some super cute fabric to make tables runners. (I don’t actually have to sew the hems now so I’m just going to fold over for the party.) I also bought some red and black Christmas garland from Hobby Lobby to hang on the mantle. I’m also picking up red and white carnations in the morning for all the tables.

We are super excited about watching games with friends, eating yummy food and having some libations. Are you going to the Georgia vs. Clemson game? Are you throwing a party? Which games are you most excited about seeing?

Answer to the cheese straw dilemma – buy Geraldine’s original cheese straws available at Publix and probably other chain groceries. They are a bit pricey, but delicious. GO DAWGS!!!

I’m not going to the game, but know several that are..My little one (14months) has a Dawgs cheerleading outfit to wear this year, but that’s about it for us..

Hope your party goes well and if you want boiled peanuts, then by all means have them..Who knows, some folks may not have ever had them and might like them..Enjoy..

…and when I was in Chattanooga this summer visiting the TN aquarium (which makes the GA Aquarium look like a beginners effort) I was able to buy a six pack of “RC Cola and moon pies” (two RC colas and 4 moon pies) – thanks for reminding me to break them out for this occasion…and

My brother, who went to UGA, is ready to watch in OHIO. The spirit of the Dawgs who had to move away will definately be strong. Strong enough for Victory? No idea.

I am so ready for SEC season but my Vols are still not looking good.

Apple season is just ahead. Now an AWESOME weekend is SEC football and picking apples.

UGA/Clemson is at 8pm, not 5. Bama/Va Tech is 5:30.

FCM, my son, also a UGA grad, lives in Ohio, too (Toledo); he is in his 2nd year of Residency in Emergency Medicine at the University of Toledo Medical Center and was scheduled to work an overnight rotation on Saturday night. However, he got someone to work for him so he could watch the game, but the tradeoff cost him an extra overnight session, which he hopes will be worth the switch!

@ lakerat, I am sure he will enjoy the game. My brother is in Cincinnati. He is District Manager for a restaurnt chain. He made his schedule to be home for this game, I think he said. If not I can promise it will be on in the bar. Ohio State’s game is at noon, but if it was at the same time, he would still have them put the Dawgs on one of the tvs.

GOOOOOOOO DAWGS! WOOF! WOOF! WOOF!

You got my attention on the pork butt…I likes me some butt.
Slap Micheal on top of the head and lay out some boiled peanuts for those boring AZ ‘burbanites. Did he really go to Georgia, or has the hot sun finally fried his brain?

…to know whether or not 8 lbs of chicken wings is enough, forget the poundage, you gotta count the number of wings! Then, count the number of guests and family that will be eating then multiply the number of eaters by 4 (not everyone will eat wings, while some will eat more than 4); finally compare that number to the number of wings you have in the 8 pounds and that will tell you whether you have enough wings, or not…

I didn’t realize anyone who matriculated through Athens would be sober enough at kickoff to realize what was happening.

On the plus side, in AZ you did not have to stay up to midnight to see the Dawgs lose!j

@ Becky…no Kroger in AZ but the Circle K ( I think) took my Kroger Plus card for a discount, when I was there in August. I was surprised! I do know that the back of the Kroger Plus card tells about the affiliate locations. Interesting!
