We’re trying not to be too sad that we can’t attend Georgia games in person this year so we’re throwing a big SEC Opening Day/ UGA vs. Clemson party on Saturday.
We don’t know that many Georgia fans out here so we’ve had to expand to Pac-12 and Big 10 fans as well. We did invite Rose’s social studies teacher because he was born in Athens. We’ll see if he shows. I’ve only met him once.
Michael is focusing on the liquor, the TV and cleaning the dog poop out of the yard. We plan to swim and watch games from the pool. He’s got a plan. I can’t wait to see what he rigs up.
We wrote in the Evite: “We’ll have bourbon for the SEC fans, beer for those of you from Big 10 country and wine for the Pac-12 folks. And we’ll try to find some RC Cola and Moon Pies for any Clemson fans.” (We’re just kidding. Don’t be offended Clemson fans. We don’t actually have any Clemson fans attending.)
We added “We’ll be changing the channels a lot, but some of the big games include:
Syracuse vs. Penn State
Alabama vs. Va. Tech
Texas Christian vs. LSU
Washington St. vs. Auburn
And the main event begins at 5 p.m.: Georgia at Clemson”
While he’s working on the outdoors, I’ve been focusing on food and decorating.
I’ve been working all week on Southern favorites such as pulled pork sandwiches, wings, my mama’s potato salad, and speedy cracker pie. (Do you guys know this recipe or is it a crazy family one?) I’ve got a 10-pound pork butt that I hit with a spice rub for 24 hours and then slow-cooked in until it fall apart. I’ve got 8 pounds of chicken wings but I can’t decide if I need more.
Michael said no to boiled peanuts as a snack but I think it would be cute, and I really do like them. (I’m going to sneak some out.) I would love some southern cheese straws but I don’t know a bakery here that sells them, and I don’t want to make them from scratch.
I’m adding into the mix my favorite Alton Brown guacamole and The Pioneer Woman’s Monster Cookies.
I found on Etsy the cutest UGA cloth wreath. She has other wreaths for SEC schools as well so check her out. I haven’t hung it yet because we keep having afternoon dust storms and I don’t want it ruined! I also bought on Etsy a melamine tray with the Bulldog and our name on it. (I don’t think I actually want to put food on it, it’s so cute.)
I got black tablecloths from Walmart and then bought some super cute fabric to make tables runners. (I don’t actually have to sew the hems now so I’m just going to fold over for the party.) I also bought some red and black Christmas garland from Hobby Lobby to hang on the mantle. I’m also picking up red and white carnations in the morning for all the tables.
We are super excited about watching games with friends, eating yummy food and having some libations. Are you going to the Georgia vs. Clemson game? Are you throwing a party? Which games are you most excited about seeing?
