Back to school means date mornings for mom and dad

While we have several back-to-school traditions for our kids, our favorite back-to-school ritual is a quiet morning in the house for mom and dad.

For the last three years after we’ve gotten the kids off to school, we climb back into bed and have a lovely morning in our house ALONE!

We are never alone because we have no relatives close by so it’s nice to have some peace and quiet to just be together.

I almost messed things up this year because I agreed to help Lilina’s former kindergarten teacher with the new crop of itty bitties. But it worked out because Michael was still home when I returned from unpacking snacks and helping with crafts.

For the kids, I always want to have special meals and treats for them the first week. Michael has been making them eggs and bacon each morning. (We are loving the precooked bacon from Costco because you can finish it off in seconds.) I baked cookies on the first and second days of school.

What are your family’s back-to-school traditions?

We would do 5 days of fun in the week leading up to the first day of school.

Hubs and I would take alternate days off, and do something with all 3 kids. Water parks, Stone Mountain, Helen, etc. The weekend before school started was an overnighter up in the mountains. Just some quiet family time before everything got hectic…..

Those days are long gone now. But the memories will always be with us.

Photos at the bus stop. Breakfast out of the oven. Dinner out tonight.

Simple but it makes good memories

No traditions but, with all the kids now gone, every morning could be a “date” morning…

TWG, find a babysitter. You and Michael need alone time. We live 45 minutes from my parents and still use babysitters once or twice a month. One day these kids will be gone and having alone time once a year is going to leave you strangers.

K’s Mom, it sounds like she means this is the only time they get to be alone together in their house, not a date night. Sitters usually don’t take the kids away so you can enjoy being home alone. Hard to find someone other than relatives you can dump all three kids on and go back home.

Back to school simply means back to school for most of us, see, we work outside the house so not much changes once the kids are off.

Great idea – “date” morning to take care of the morning wood. I use to just jam it in her leg until she gives it up, but now I have an excuse.

Controversial story from the Today Show — check it out — Should restaurants refuse crumby kids or call them out for it on Social Media??

Atlanta mom — my girlfriend did a party for back to school last year –all the moms showed up for mimosas — problem was a bunch of them still had preschoolers so it was less fun than it sounded — I was like got to go! My friend moved to Taiwan a few weeks back so no party this year!!

Enjoyed reading about back to school routines. Seems like so much to do….shopping for school clothes and supplies, meet the teacher nights, and getting used to that early morning wake up call! I also have to remind my kids about safety on the school bus. I wrote a post on safety tips for riding the bus that I’d love to share. You can see it at http://destinationsafety.com/school-bus-safety-tips/
