Smart aleck or good natured: Teen gives mom just what she asked for

A mom left a note attached to a shower curtain that said  “Please Clean this bathroom tonight. Clean it like the Queen of England is visiting.  Clean tonight. …”

So the teenager took the note pretty literally. Check out photos on the link of what the teenager did.

So is this good-natured fun on the part of the teen or would he be punished? Or would you just be glad he cleaned the bathroom?

I guess it would depend on the relationship you had with the teen. If you are constantly in a power struggle then you probably couldn’t let him get away with that. But if you get along and it was meant to be funny, I think I would be laughing. Again, the bathroom did get cleaned.

Who cares as long as the bathroom got cleaned? Personally, I’d be laughing myself sick! The kid has a sense of humor, I don’t see any meanness in his antics.

It’s a control thing: If you want help around the house, you have to be a little flexible about how you get it. I can’t see this being a power struggle. At least the kid was smiling while he did it!

…I agree with what DB said.

And this reminds me of the old joke of when the tired traveler tried to check into a hotel late at night only to be told that the place was completely sold out. He replied, “you mean to tell me that if the President of the United States came by you would not be able to accomodate him”? The clerk responded that of course they would be ablt to accomodate him; to which the traveler replied “Well, he isn’t coming, so I will take his room”!

Happy April Fool’s Day!

Love this kid’s sense of humor. I don’t think he’s a smart aleck at all; he’s creative.

LOVE IT!! This is exactly something my kid would do! Again, the bathroom got cleaned and no one was injured in the process. I consider that a successful day!

I thought it was hysterical. He had some imagination and made an effort.

I loved it when I first saw it! It would depend on the parent’s relationship with the teen. However, the bathroom did get clean and yes, he’s got a sense of humor. Love the Tartis.

OF course he was being a wise guy! BUT it does not stop it from being hilarious! I would have laughed, given him a hug and probably some money for going the extra steps!

Like Misty, I appreciate the Tatis.

Like others I would be happy if the bathroom was cleaned. I have girls and their bathroom is a mess.

I think this is hilarious. The kid probably was being a smart aleck. So what? Teenagers are smart alecks. The bathroom got cleaned and that would be all I cared about. If this was my kid, I would be laughing my rear end off.

ON 2nd thought:

I probably would have passed out and hit my head on the sink from the fact they did so good a job!

I know TWG is driving discussion in the blog, but I would find it hard to believe that any parent would punish their kid for something like this. Outside of a parent who is mentally ill or abusive, I would think any parent would laugh at what the kid did and enjoy the cleverness and creativity.

If you get any responses supporting punishment with an attempt at valid reasoning for doing so, I will be very surprised.

If you don’t think this is funny, you should consider giving your kids to someone who does!

It’s funny AND the kid cleaned the bathroom. Let’s face it she probably wrote the note because if her kid is like my friend’s son he believes a quick once over the sink and toilet seat with a clorox wipe does the job (no toilet bowl, no tub, no shower wall).

“If you are constantly in a power struggle then you probably couldn’t let him get away with that.”

Are you kidding? If a parent views something like this as part of a power struggle, then they have issues, not the kid. Even if it’s not good-natured (but I think it is), the kid did what was asked with at worst a little attitude. If it’s not done in fun and really is meant by the kid to be part of a larger struggle, not letting him “get away with that” would actually give him more power by allowing him to get under your skin and provoke a reaction with such a silly little hint of rebellion.
