Will you only shop certain stores when you get email/Facebook sale alerts?

In a corollary discussion to yesterday’s registering to shop online, I am wondering if there are certain stores you will only buy at if you get a Facebook or email alert that there is a big sale going on?

While it is somewhat annoying and tempting to get emails every single day from Ann Taylor Loft I pretty much will not buy there now unless I get an email saying 50 percent off. When I get that 50-percent-off email, it’s go time.

Two weeks ago, I resisted the 50-percent-off email all day on Friday and kept telling myself you don’t need to buy anything, you don’t need to buy anything. And then when I woke up the next Saturday morning, my email said “50 percent off sale extended,” I couldn’t resist that siren song anymore. I bought a pair of dress pants, cardigan and dress for work all at 50 percent off.

So are there stores you only buy at when you get the big sale email? Do you think that actually hurts their business if people just wait for the big sales? Do you like getting emails for Facebook notices of big sales from your favorite stores or does it make it just too tempting?

There are certain online stores that I will only buy from with a discount code (sierratradingpost) since I know they put them out there all the time. Then there are others that I wish would (hello Pottery Barn).

For online shopping, I wait for free shipping…and not just free shipping over $50 or whatever, but free shipping on all orders. You get those around the holidays and sometimes during the year. For brick and mortar stores too I wait for coupons to as many places as possible.

No. In fact, I take ALL store advertising and create a filter to immediately put it in the trash folder. If I feel I missed anything, 30 days worth of trash are held by GMail, and I can go back and look.

I don’t like shopping, and 50% off of something I don’t need is still something I don’t need. I don’t buy clothes on-line, because I need/like to try it on in the store, and HATE packaging up returns. Plus, I think it’s against the law to go to Macy’s except on a Wednesday, isn’t it? :-)
