Would you let your 5-year-old jump from here to the ground? it's about my height — 5 foot 6 inches. She would land in sand. Do you let her jump?

This is one of my quandaries: Do I let my 5-year-old jump from this height like she wants or fight her about it? I don’t want to be overprotective but I am pretty sure she could twist or break an ankle landing, especially doing it in flip flops! It’s about 5 feet, 6 inches. I would have no problem at all with my 9-year-old making that jump. However, the 5-year-old seems too short to do it. What do you think?

Oh, she did it, and look at that smile. I still think she could crack an ankle.

Officials at the Atlanta Public School system reportedly used Twitter to alert parents to an emergency situation at Finch Elementary School this morning.  Some students and staff were overcome by carbon monoxide in the school. (See the AJC front page for updates on this story.)

According to The AJC:

“Just after 9 a..m., the school system tweeted the following: “Parents of students @APSFinch – We will provide more information regarding next steps at Finch Elementary as soon as possible.” A later tweet advised parents that students were being relocated to Brown Middle School on Peeples Street “due to potential hazmat concern.”

“At least 31 people were taken to local hospitals Monday after apparently being overcome by carbon monoxide at a southwest Atlanta elementary school.

The incident began about 8:30 a.m. at Finch Elementary School in the 1100 block of Avon Avenue near Lee Street.

Some Elf entries from last year: Sandy wrote: "Tonight Happy Bing-A-Ling left 6 clues throughout the house with the final clue leading to the computers where they will find personal video messages from the "Boss" himself."

One of my favorite naughty elves from last year: Elfie had some fun at Nancy's house marking up their family photos! Don't panic: the markers are dry erase. Pretty smart I think!

Another favorite from last year: Julie's Elf is sending a subtle message that he wants snow. It looks like he wrote it in lipstick!
