A woman in Arizona who was upset about President Barack Obama’s re-election allegedly ran over her husband with a car after she found out he didn’t vote. She has been charged with aggravated assault.
Here’s the full story from The Associated Press:
“GILBERT, Ariz. (AP) — A Mesa woman critically injured her husband by running over him with an SUV during an argument about the presidential election, police said.
Holly Solomon, 28, was upset about President Barack Obama’s re-election and began arguing with her husband when she found out that he didn’t vote, authorities said.
Daniel Solomon, 36, told investigators that his wife believed her family was going to face hardship as a result of Obama’s election to a second term.
During the argument, Daniel Solomon got out of the SUV and gave his wife a dirty look, according to a police report obtained by Phoenix television station KPHO. That’s when she started chasing him through a Gilbert parking lot.
Police said he took refuge behind a light pole as she circled him numerous times while continuing to yell at him.
She struck him as he tried to run toward the road, pinning him between the SUV’s underside and a curb, police said.
Holly Solomon told police that she was trying to scare her husband by stopping the vehicle close to him but she accidentally stepped on the accelerator and struck him.
Daniel Solomon remained in critical condition Monday.
There were no signs Holly Solomon was impaired. She was booked on an aggravated assault count.
Holly Solomon had no listed phone number, and it wasn’t clear whether she has a lawyer.
Witnesses reported hearing yelling before Holly Solomon got into the SUV. Several people also called 911 to report seeing a man get run down in the parking lot.”
I like that she told police she was just trying to get close to him with the car to scare him. What do you make of it people? Have you even been to the point of trying to run over your spouse? Do you have any other extreme ways of fighting?

Why do so many right wing voters stoop to anger and violence when their candidate looses the election. I would have been deeply disappointed if Romney had won, but not angered. When Bush accidently lead the US into a mistaken war, which resulted in THOUSANDS of people dying, including children, women, and service men, that was a time to be ANGRY. Yet nere a word was heard by the GOP or their followers.

Sad thing is, since Romney took Arizona easily, it’s irrelevant whether or not this man voted. Romney got AZ and its Electoral College delegates. One vote more or less in AZ couldn’t change that. The wife is an idiot (on so many levels). She would have to take out her anger on voters in OTHER STATES–states that went Blue. But, I guess, her husband was closer at hand.

“I like that she told police she was just trying to get close to him with the car to scare him.”
TWG what does this mean? No I have never been mad enough to run over anyone…my husband nor anyone else. I have been pretty mad, at times, but not enough to potentially kill anyone…or hurt that that bad.
BTW…there are two hot cocoa wrappers that are empty and laying on the kitchen counter when I went down to get a cup of coffee this morning. The trash can is less than three feet away. There is also an empty Keurig and Sweetener. Yes, I found the trash can and put it all in there. In light of the nagging comment we talked about yesterday, no I am not running anyone over…haha!
@ Steve…people are mad because they do not want to work to pay for those who look at Obama as Santa Claus. I am happy to help those who need help but if they have no intention of helping themselves EVER I may want to run over them too…NOT. Anyone else? If someone has demonstrated need, I am ALL about helping. Not so much with those who are not interested in working or keep having children so that they will not ever need to work. Family values/work ethic people. In August, it was stated that 41 % of children are BORN to single mothers. I know there are all sorts of varied circumstances but is this a good thing?

As far as the topic at hand, seems like when one spouse runs over the other after chasing them down, we’ve previously claimed it’s attempted murder, they should lose their kids, income, house, be forced into anger management, and go to jail for the rest of their life.
But other than that, what’s the big deal?

@motherjanegoose you people with this arguments are so short sighted. Providing medical care to everyone (like most of the rest of the world does) leads to a healthier population in general.
Do you even have private insurance? If you did, you’d know that the costs are skyrocketing for it. 10-20% increases every year. Guess why? The uninsured people still use the medical system, of course. Guess who pays for that. Oh that’s right. US. There is zero difference here except that NOW people are *required* to have insurance.
Also, if you have ever gone to an ER for anything other than a life threatening emergency, you’re no better than the made up people you are ranting about. You’re costing ME money by going to the ER for something that isn’t life threatening.

My wife wouldn’t let me vote. She didn’t trust that I would vote democrat, so she figured no vote was better than a vote for GOP. The only exception was Gore. I convinced her that I’d vote to have Tipper Gore, a total babe, as our first lady and we’d revisit Camelot and everything. We voted in Newt Ginrich’s old district. When I approached the table to get my vote thingie, the lady couldn’t find my name on the registered voter list, and then asked if I was going to vote republican or democrat. I said democrat. She looked over to this old fat guy sitting a few feet away, and mumbled something. He looked at me weird, man, and then waved me over to him. Then he reached under the table, and said, “Hold on, sorry.” Then he pulled out these different looking vote thingies. I was like, “excuse me?” That’s when he nodded at the security guard who approached me saying, “Is there a problem?”. “No. No problem. The lady said I was supposed to……” “WHAT?” “….the lady said I…..the lady……LADY!!!”
I managed to make bail that night my friends, but without my vote, Gore lost and of course the planet is totally ruined forever by that scoundrel bush. But at least I tried.
This is a true story. Only the candidates names were changed during voting so that the GOP could steal another election, the dirty rats. (Background of true story: I have a disorder where I turn into Jerry Lewis when I vote, that’s all.)
The Arizona lady who ran over her husband is a typical Tea Party hag. Certainly a birther. Certainly thinks Obama and Osama are similar names enough to connect the idiot-dots to believe that Obama is an Al Queda stooge. Certainly thinks she done good on her no account no vote husband.
Her arraignment: “You’re charged with aggravated assault, how do you plead?” “I DONE DID GOOD!”

@ Mayhem…ditto. I SOMETIMES work in Public Schools and thus I am paid with government $$$ BUT it is typically the parents who send in $$$ for field trips for their children. 90% of the teacher venues I speak are paid for by the fees they charge the participants. Not government $$$. Especially now as the schools do not have $$$. I joked with the group in NM, as they paid $220 to hear me for 6 hours. This covered their meals and CEUs. so probably about $125? I mentioned that I hoped they got their $125 worth. I had 60 participants and they did not give me the $125 x 60 people, that is for SURE! My groups make $$$ off of my back and I am fine with it.
@ David…yes, I have always had insurance from the time I worked at Wal Mart, then military with my husband and now on his company policy. We often mention how it could evaporate at any time but he feels it would be more likely that he would be offered a stipend to pay for private insurance. I think we have been to the emergency room once in almost 30 year of marriage and that was after we went to Egelston ( sp?) and they told us to goto the ER for a facial wound. The Doctor we use has weekend hours on Sa and Su and this is why we use that practice. We have BOTH worked our entire marriage and even before. He was in the Navy and worked at Ben Franklin while I was in college and worked at Wal Mart…before we were married. I do not begrudge those who have been in the midst of unfortunate circumstances. I am fussy with those who have no goals in their life and think Obama can get them what they want. My take is that you get what you want from working hard and often at a job you do not enjoy, until you find something better. Have your own goals and not expect someone else to foot the bill. That is what we did and that is what our kids are doing. Neither have gotten financial aid ( except HOPE) because we have worked and saved $$$. Our son is finishing his Doctorate and will have his loans. He will pay them himself. He has been with the same company for 9 years. Not many 25 year olds are in the same boat. Not many 40 year olds have been with the same company for 9 years.

Well, obviously there were other things going on in THAT marriage other than an election. The woman sounds like she’s a couple of Lifesavers short of a roll.
After the election, I was talking to (another) self-employed friend of mine. She was very clear about her financial goals: “My retirement plan is fully funded, I pay for my own insurance, I am required to pay unemployment, even though my chances of actually COLLECTING unemployment, as a self-employed person, are nil. I have started turning away clients, because at this point, the more I work, the greater portion of it goes to taxes. Why should I work nights and weekends just to pay taxes that help fund other people’s bad decisions? Screw that. I’ve figured out how much I need to make in order to meet my living expenses and to continue putting money away for retirement. There is absolutely no reason for me to work any harder than that if the government is just going to take it away as fast as I make it.”
It rubs my Calvinistic work ethic the wrong way, but I can see her point. Why work harder if you’re just pour money through the sieve that is the U.S. government?

On another topic, the State of GA paid close to $500 million per year to treat the illnesses of uninsured sick people before Obamacare kicked it. The Athens Regional Health System paid $140 million per year alone Guess who reimburses the hospital’s for this cost? The taxpayers do! You and me.
Law requires every person who gets behind the wheel of a car to have car insurance. We can’t have a law requiring everyone who enters a hospital seeking treatment have a means to pay for that treatment?

It is truly amazing to watch the GOP in response to Romney’s loss. I read an article that said that to date there have been 19 different excuses/reasons given as to why Romney lost. None of them however mention what a horrible candidate he was or Ron Paul and the role he played. This woman obviously needs to blame even her husband rather than blame herself for not working harder for a candidate that could actually have beaten Obama – like Ron Paul.
Ron Paul brought to the race something virtually no other republican has in a long time – principles. Not only has he been promoting the same arguments for sound money, constitutionally-limited government, freedom, personal liberty, and sound foreign policy, but every single vote he has taken in congress over the past 12 terms has been consistent with those principles. No other republican congressman can say this, and certainly none of the other candidates running (least of all Romney – whose change of positions on issues became the stuff of legendary YouTube videos). By extension of these principles, his positions included abolishing the Federal Reserve and its destructive monetary policies, restoring a free market in money, ending the failed war on drugs (that imprisons hundreds of thousands of otherwise non-violent offenders), ending all foreign aid, ending the income tax, bringing all of our troops home to America to defend America, and eliminating all of the unconstitutional government agencies that create laws without congressional approval and are crushing our economy. Ideas like these are based on a basic non-aggression principle that all libertarians abide by, and the common sense Austrian School of economics. Though typical republicans spout some of these ideas to win votes, their own votes once elected rarely if ever follow through on their words – unlike Ron Paul. It is this commitment to consistent principles of freedom and liberty that attracted hundreds of thousands of young voters and pulled many disaffected Obama supporters from the Democratic party to his cause. His rallies typically attracted thousands, and the crowds were young, old, black, while, Hispanic, asian, male, and female – unlike the typically over-50 white crowds that Romney and others attracted. Dr. Paul, despite the well-documented vote stealing, vote switching, acts of violence, and other delegate disenfranchisement actions taken by the pro-Romney camp, secured over 2 million votes in primary and caucus votes nationwide. Many of his supporters were unwilling to register with the republican party on principle, so one can only wonder what his actual totals could have been.
When Mitt and his “people” pulled similar stunts at the GOP national convention against Ron Paul delegates (actions that were so abusive and corrupt that the republican governor of Maine refused to attend the GOP convention specifically in response to what went on in Maine caucuses), he lost any support he might have hoped for out of this large, energetic, and politically-active group of supporters. Of this large group, a very small number may have voted for him nonetheless. A significant group voted for Gary Johnson, the Libertarian Party candidate (his weak positions on empire, the drug war, taxation cost him much support from this group). Another significant number wrote in Dr. Paul’s name on their ballots. In several states he was a qualified write in, but in most cases these committed voters didn’t care about that. And a very large number simply sat out the election (an estimated 18 million fewer people cast their ballots compared to 2008 – despite a growing population and this being “the most important election of our lives” hype from the desperate and state-controlled media.
With the introduction of easily-hackable, non-auditable electronic voting machines nationwide, the potential for vote stealing/rigging is greater than it ever was. Key republicans and democrats own significant shares of interest in all of the major manufacturers, and according to reports, at least 22 illegal software patches were installed within the last 3 weeks before the election in Ohio voting machines (against state law, and orchestrated by the Attorney General of the state). Nominees for elections are put forth generally by party bosses, and as was evidenced clearly in the treatment of the Ron Paul grass roots, once the party bosses have made their choice, all actions up to and including outright violence will be taken to insure that their candidate, and not one selected by following the rules or by the grass roots, will be the nominee.
Additionally, the two major parties have conspired in every state to pass laws that restrict ballot access to alternative parties (and their ideas). Many of these so-called third parties have at their core, strict adherence to the constitution (so you have to wonder why the bold aggression against their ideas). So given all of this, why does anyone participate in this rigged system of elections that we have in this country? I say good for the husband for not voting. If there is nobody worthy of your vote, don’t give it. We say that all of our dead soldiers died for our rights, including our vote. Why would you give something as precious as that to the “lesser of two evils” as many rightfully considered Romney. Why would you cast a vote for evil at all? I mean isn’t that fundamentally how we got to this point in America? By not voting for principles or candidates who will stick to them?

Their slant seemed to be “Man, why would you want to do all that extra work if they are going to take that much away?”

The time has come to stop talking and start acting. Negotiating with liberals (or any politician) is like negotiating with terrorists or unruly 5 year olds. If you allow them to have control, the consequences will always be significant.
Unfortunately, the system has failed and revolution is the only force powerful enough to bring back the glory that America once had. The way our generation has chosen to live is an insult to all of the members of the greatest generation that saved the world from Nazi domination. Now the enemy is within, and it is us. Secession will become a necessity at some point to save regular middle Americans from tyranny, the same way we had to save ourselves from King George.
When we’re in a place where we’ve forgotten our history and have our constitution mocked, the government has abdicated its authority. Anyone who continues under such a system is either milking it or a complete ideological fool with no foot in reality.

Mark my words that you will see more and more of these kinds of things as time goes on. People are furious and aren’t going to keep taking it anymore soon. There is a long list of countries who arrogantly think the way our present aristocracy (and its media disciples) think right now. Here are just a few of them:
1) The Ancient Roman Empire
2) The Ancient Egyptians
3) The Ancient Greeks
4) Imperial Japan
5) Nazi Germany
6) The USSR
What do all those countries have in common? At one point in their history, they were an invincible empire that couldn’t possibly falter. Anyone who suggested such a thing was mocked. Within 50 years, expect the USA to follow the USSR and fragment into local regions of control. Trying to hold together two completely opposite cultures under ANY government does not work over the long term. Better to peacefully part ways than to go on this way. This is why Belarus, Serbia, Croatia, Georgia, and all of the Stans now exist.

@ Blue Fish. I agree with your friend. In your mind you are thinking those people are doing the same thing (i.e…working 40 hr weeks) to make that money. In reality (at least in my house) more work means more money. If my husband (self employed) works 40 hrs a week he can make around X amount of money. If he puts in 60 he can make X times 50 percent. That might be worth the extra 20 hrs a week. However, if he works 80hrs a week he doesn’t get X times X because he has entered a higher tax bracket and much more will be taken. At some point it is not worth the extra work if 50 percent of your earnings is going to be taken. Similarly, why would one go to work and make 20 thousand a year (say, working at Burger King) when they can sit home and collect section 8 housing benefits and food stamps. Sure, you would think you’d rather have the 20 thousand a year but, many would rather sit and do nothing.
Bottom line, rich people think like you’re friend. And they are the ones supporting this country. So, regardless of how you think you and the rest of the liberals out there think, the policies of Barack Obama will destroy this country. You don’t build a country or an economy from the bottom up. Last I looked the poor and working class were not hiring people and not investing money.
back to the topic. This fight had very little to do with voting, I’m sure.

The press loves to add this type of crap to a headline to get more clicks on the story link. I SERIOUSLY doubt that this incident was an isolated event between these two people nor did it have anything to do with voting or not voting. The argument may have started over the husband not voting, but it escalated to domestic violence because of serious mental and emotional issues on the part of the wife.
She has probably attacked her husband in the past for other inconsequential things. My ex physically abused me for 3 1/2 years and it didn’t take much to set him off. One of the worst incidents with him was because some woman made fun of him in a bar and wouldn’t go home with him because she knew he was married. He came home at 2:00 in the morning, woke me up from a sound sleep and proceeded to destroy all the bedroom furniture and then threw me on the floor and tried to strangle me. Another near-death experience was one night when he came home drunk and wanted to make a sandwich and found out we were out of mustard. He emptied the entire contents of the refrigerator into the kitchen floor and then forced me to clean it up while he had his hands around my neck. After 3 1/2 years living with this nut job, I finally realized that he would kill me someday for some insane reason like I bought the wrong kind of pickles at the store so I left him. Bottom line is that an abuser doesn’t really need a rational reason to hurt their loved ones because they ARE NOT RATIONAL PEOPLE.

David, I sure am sorry that my non-life-threatening injury sent my uninsured butt to the ER at 11.15 pm on a Thursday night, but, out of curiosity, where was I supposed to go?
Mayhem, Phil from Athens, considering that Romney seems to have received fewer votes in 2012 than John Kerry did eight years ago, and that no candidate for president has ever received as many votes as Barack Obama has, I wonder whether you will ever admit that maybe the majority has decided that they wish to have Democrats in high office. Then again, your constant use of talk radio bigot code like “baby daddy” and “givers and takers” indicates that you’re still living in the bubble of epistemic closure and have no clue how the majority of America views our present and our future.
I know, them’s big words that actual grown-up conservatives coin. Look ‘em up:

Well, I just love getting up at 5:30 every morning, and sitting in traffice for 45-60 minutes, to work at the job I’ve had for 20 years, just to see the idiot in front of me at the grocery store talking on a iPhone, with her freshly manicured/pedicured nails, and 3 children she is ignoring, because she’s talking to Sakaira, only to watch her pay for everything with an EBT card. Yup, nothing gets me going like that. Makes me want to get up every morning and go to work, so people like that can have food. God forbid SHE gets a job…..and supports her own children. Like I do. God forbid she pay into social security, like I do, so she has somewhat of a future. God forbid she pay TAXES, like I do. And God forbid she has to use a Flip phone, LIKE I DO.
But no, instead she wants to sit around the housing project, not parenting her children with numerous BABY DADDIES, and expect everything to be GIVEN to her, because she’s BLACK. I guess HER president will take care of her, because he sure as hell ain’t taking care of ME. I take care of ME. It’s call PERSONAL R E S P O N S I B I L I T Y. Some people just don’t get it!!!

Being of a pov you do not understand or respect is no reason for you to be rude and disrespectful. To my way of thinking, we on the left, put up with Bush 2 and all of his lies and his installment to the presidency by the supremes. At least Obama actually won both of his elections by a majority of the voters who voted. No one is interested in your sore loser comments and attitude. What you need is a change in attitude; being a grumpy guy, probably white, will get you nowhere in our changing country.

Not that Conservatives like them, here is a fact for those ragging on the Universal Service Charge: it is NOT a fund to pay for cell phones for poor people. Nothing to do with that. It is a charge created in the 1930’s to distribute the cost of providing availibility of phone service to hard-to-reach areas, or areas where it would otherwise not be profitable to go through the expense of making phone service possible. It is for, back then, the lines, poles, and everything to put it in place. I guess now it’s for towers and satellites. It’s not a free phone service for welfare queens.

Gotta agree with R3VOLUTION. GOP folks seem to be blaming everything and everyone else but themselves for nominating such a horrible candidate. Running down your husband hardly addresses the fact that republicans cannot articulate a sound economic argument to save their lives, mostly because they seem to love big government, and also because their voting record on small government is deplorable. Seriously, given how awful the economy is, how much more debt was added, how many new wars we are involved in, how much bigger the police state has gotten, and how many more violation of our civil liberties we have had to endure under Obama, a candidate has to be pretty horrible to still lose.

@ Mayhem…ditto on the flip phone…thanks for the laugh. I am about to get a “real phone” soon.
I do believe that God is in charge. There were times, in the Bible, when God allowed his children to have things that were not good for them as it taught them a lesson. It scares me that we could be in the midst of being taught a lesson, for all of our foolishness. God is certainly not a Democrat nor a Republican. There are good and bad people in both parties. God does feel this way, “But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.” 1 Timothy 5:8 I believe God does want us to work and provide for our own family.
Not positive on this answer but catlady lives in a place where she knows lots of people and she has lived there a while. She may very well know the entire history of someone she sees at the market. it is easier to do this when you live in a smaller community. Meanwhile, catlady has herself worked and supported her own family forever.

Not so much with those who are not interested in working or keep having children so that they will not ever need to work……

Back SLOWLY away from the talk radio and FOXNews channel. Take a few deep breath’s, free your mind and think for yourself.
Done? Good. Name (to yourself) ALL the people you personally knwo that have stated they think Obama is Santa Claus. Also try to remember that amongst that “47% of moochers who pay no taxes” that Romney talked about are Combat troops in combat zones and those who “got all blowed up” and are “mooching” free money and medical care from the VA. We call them wounded and disabled veterans. They pay no taxes either. But I’ll bet if you axed them, they’d much rather have their legs or arms, or eyes, or whatever back than not pay taxes and draw that small amount of cash they get tax free……….
On topic: When I read that story all I could think of was “just damn.” That lady is a product of talk radio and FOX news. They spew so much hate that you know some weak minded soul will crack. The responses to this blog reminded me to be careful of the assumptions I make about people. Nobody knows anybody else’s situation – how many baby daddies they have, if they are on Section 8, why they are on food stamps, who they voted for and why – and I know I have to remind myself to stop being so judgmental….and remember that but for the grace of God I could be in the same situation. So thanks to all you hateful folks. You made a positive impact on me today.

I don’t agree with what Holly Solomon did but I do understand the extreme stress of Obama’s reelection. So many people seem to be willfully ignorant about what is going to take place in our country and the continued hardships people are going to face due to the incompetence of Barrack Obama. Obama care is going to wreck this country because it is going to force businesses to carry the extra insurance for their employee’s which they cannot afford, everything is going to go up and it was reported on the news that hours are going to be cut and restaurants are going to be putting a 5% surcharge on your bill to cover Obama care. Now also look at fast and furious and the guns we gave to the Mexican cartel that killed border agent Brian Terry, notice there are still no answers to that and Eric Holder has done a dance trying to side step Darryl Issa and his questions. Now we have the deaths of our people in Libya and that terrible terrorist attack and no help was sent and security was stepped down, they died and we sent no help even though we had fighter jets two hundred miles away, you have to ask how can you run a country like this. And what about the terrible disrespect shown by our president to Benjamin Netayahu, do people not see that if Israel falls that the entire middle east will burn and that our country will be in great danger again! And what about them talking about selling our national parks to fund Obama care when Boehner would not spend the extra money needed from the house for this health care plan. But the worst above all is the debt. It is not ok for your country to be in debt. In the last seventy days Obama’s administration has spent over a half a trillion dollars and if spending keeps up the way it is that by the end of Obama’s second term we will be borrowing sixty five cents of every dollar that is spend and by the time we get to that no one will lend us money anymore, why would they if we cant pay it back, right now our deficit is larger than all the money everyone put together earns in a year, Obama is the highest spending president we have ever had and we are on our way to falling off of the cliff. Many of you are going to look at this and think that I am a right wing nut and its just so easy to brush this off but you cannot run from the figures or the damage that has been created or what is coming. Our media is incredibly biased in favor of Barrack Obama and they either do not talk about what’s going on or they put so much gloss on it that it is hard to see the truth. I charge who ever reads this and thinks that I am crazy to do the searches and see what is going on, I have been watching and struggling with this for four years now and when Obama won I was just so heart broken at the amount of ignorance there is in this country to not understand that you cannot spend what you do have, government programs must be cut deeply, taxes must be lowered on all business so jobs can be created, people need to take care of themselves and not have four generations on welfare and food stamps. People like the idea of socialism but when you live it then you find out that freedom to fight for what is yours is a pretty good thing, how would you like it if someone told you that you are living in a house that is too big for you and your family and that you have to evacuate half the space so another family can live there or how about the business that you built no longer belongs to you because we are now a socialist nation and now you work for the government and now you are paid what they think you should have and don’t expect any vacations . These things seem extreme but they have happened in the history of our world in Russia and China South America and North Korea. How would you like to wait ten hours in line for a loaf of bread? This is a reality and we are being strongly pushed in that direction. Capitalism is a good thing and makes our country stronger and people happier, we live better lives under a capitalism society and these are things I know. The woman who ran over her husband see’s these things and is very worried for her family and the hardships that are coming for them and her unborn child. I don’t agree with hurting someone but her husband really should tried harder to keep away from a confrontation with a six month pregnant woman worried about what kind of future her child is going to have. And just one last thing about our debt I am middle aged and I know that I will never live long enough to see our country out of debt and I don’t think that the child born in the year of 2012 will live to see that debt paid off either, I think that it is going to take a hundred years to get out from under this burden.
