I am wondering how much husbands, fathers, uncles or brothers influence positively or negatively the candidates for whom women vote?
My mother and father belong to different parties and usually they just don’t discuss politics. But one election year, my dad pressured my mother to vote for his candidate. He kept telling her that his business would fail if she voted for the wrong guy.
To this day, she talks about her regret in changing her vote.
On the flip side, I like discussing politics with my husband. He is very well informed, and I always learn from our discussions.
Does your husband or any other man in your life influence your vote?

I vote exactly the way my wife tells me to vote. This is such an inane article.

@ JOD the GOP has said pleanty about the economy, need for jobs and immigration. Start listening with your brain and not the lower half of your body…otherwis you are playing right to the @$$ party….I mean Democratic party that thinks women only care about their body and kids and nothing else!

We both love liberty, freedom, sound money, defense-oriented foreign policy, health freedom, personal freedom, and self-government. Therefore neither of us has ever voted for a candidate from the republican or democratic parties (other than Ron Paul) – EVER – and never will unless another like Ron Paul comes along. We don’t need to influence each other’s ideas. We are both already driven by common sense and consistent principles when it comes to freedom and the proper role of government (little to none).

@FCM – Not sure what you’re trying to say since I was speaking specifically about the candidates who are shooting their mouths off about so-called women’s issues, who are happy to get air time just on those issues and not the others. And they do happen to be Republicans, hijacking the party from moderates. No need to be insulting.

From the outside, influence and control might look alike. If you can’t tell the difference from the inside you are likely breathtakingly stupid or mentally ill.
On the other hand you may be pathologically attached to never being influenced by another human being and just incapable of having a normal, healthy marriage.

Hormones influence women voters, one that made claims about how women tend to lean liberal when ovulating because they “feel sexier.”
We got to have the election before every woman’s cycle.

Sure can but if there is another vagina in your vagina do you get to make the rules for it too?

Mayhem, if you are not responsible enough to prevent your vagina from insemination with all the drugs and devices these days why are you responsible enough to make the rules.

Of course most wives look to their husbands for advice on who to vote for. The man is usually more well informed on matters of political substance. Nothing new here.

Just because you and your husband are married and feel like you are “one person”, it doesn’t mean you have to vote the same as he does. As someone else said- voting is private for a reason. Use your own brain and think for yourself!

The wife is usually more focused on other issues and isn’t as likely as her husband to be interested in political matters.

Tiffany, why would Theresa have posed the question if there wasn’t the possibility of an affirmative answer? Men and woman are different (I need to thank Time magazine for stating that obvious fact a few years back) and have different interests. It’s not an insult for me to believe it. I have seen it, albeit anecdotally, for decades.

My wife wouldn’t let me vote. What are you people talking about? No beer or cigarettes either. Besides, it now appears that women voters go loopy every odd Tuesday and if it happens to fall on election night…..the polls get skewed.
Is this the trickle down government Romney talked about?

I have no idea whether I influence my wife’s vote. We are on the same page for the most part, and since she’s a big girl now, she’s free to vote as she sees fit. We don’t really discuss politics that much anyway.

Yes, the one’s with vaginas should decide…which is why MORE woman are pro-life than pro-choice. We with vaginas know that it is a baby…not a “choice”

Women shouldn’t vote, and neither should men above (or below) their station. Democracy is an illusion, and the magicians have almost everyone fooled.
The temporal “Leader of the Free World” should be chosen by six men: three princes of the Church and four princes of the temporal order, the Empire.
In short, the common man should vote once a year, or every few years, for his block captain, city Alderman, and guild president. Not for any station above (or below) his in life. Certainly not for the “Leader of the Free World”.

I take great comfort that my husband and I feel the same way about issues, which we discuss regularly. I think I would be concerned if we were on separate sides of the fence. Not because I don’t enjoy a lively discussion, but more so because I believe that people who agree on important issues: social, political, environmental, etc. work well together.
Having said that, I imagine having opposing views keeps relationships interesting, and some people probably like that too.

Government spending has gone up astronomically since women were given the vote…just saying.
Of course we also got the Federal Reserve, the Income Tax, the direct election of Senators and other horrible Progressive destructions of our freedoms and liberties so likely women’s suffrage has only played a minor role.

Good grief, TWG, way to feed into the stereotype that women aren’t smart enough to make their own decisions. How about an article about how husbands and wives talk about politics and how they deal with disagreements? That would at least make it sound like we women were born with half a brain in our heads instead of none at all.

Oh, look! A troll.
My husband and I discuss politics, but we are both independents. We’re too “liberal” for Repubs and too “conservative” for Dems. I guess I’d call myself a social liberal and fiscal conservative. Anyway, he doesn’t pressure me to vote one way or the other, and neither do I pressure him.

@ PS “I guess I’d call myself a social liberal and fiscal conservative.” I have heard a lot of people making that reference to themselves in the past year. I would have thought that one of the political parties would wake up and move in that direction.
I’m amazed when anyone in government – men or women – feel they even need to open their mouths on things such as rape, abortion, etc. I don’t see where the government should even be in the discussion except in cases of obvious law breaking in the case of rape.

Killing a baby is not a woman’s right…and women know that. That is why the majority of women do NOT favor abortion. Real women protect their children at all costs…not kill them.
