Should you pay extra to see ‘Hotel Transylvania’ in 3D?

I always look for reviews that specify whether it is worth the extra money to see a kid’s movie in 3D. I used to always say no and never paid. However, the last two movies I didn’t pay for 3D, I felt like we were missing integral parts of the story without the 3D special effects.

We finally saw “Madagascar 3” and you could tell all the shots that were meant to be in 3D, and I do feel like we missed a lot in that movie because we didn’t pay extra. I also felt that way in “Brave.” You could just tell “Oh that was 3D,” and I think the movie would have benefited from the 3D glasses.

I did NOT feel this way in “Hotel Transylvania.” There were not parts in the movie where I was like “Oh that should have been in 3D,” and I’m glad I didn’t pay extra this weekend for this movie. The 2D seemed totally fine.

Do your kids get an allowance? Make it their responsibility to pay the extra for 3D. That gives them skin in the game and helps them to learn about budgeting and wants and needs. Just my 2 cents….

K’s mom — They are really good about not spending the extra money. I usually ask them — what do you think should we spend the extra and I would say most times they say no, I didn’t see anything in the trailer that looked 3dish. They’re funny that way. Most times they say no, let’s not spend the extra money.

They only make things in 3D these days for the money. Certainly, artistic expression should be considered, but I think they just go back and look for things to make um…stick out so it can look cool. Anyone remember the 3D versions of Jaws 3 or Friday the 13th. “Hey, this might look neat, so let’s try it!” It’s too much trouble to keep the kids with their glasses on; stupid and wasteful.

I like the 4D stuff at the Legoland theater.
