Shocking photo: Mom appears to potty train at restaurant table

A photo that is circulating the internet shows a mom letting her two toddlers potty train at a restaurant table. According to reports, she brought the potty in, stripped the twins down and let them take turns eating while on the potty. A mother of three witnessed the event and snapped a photo hat she posted on Facebook. There is a video interview with that mom on the link.

See the photo here.

It was so shocking that some people question if it was even real or a prank.

From The Huffington Post:

“It happened at the Thanksgiving Point Deli in Utah. The mom in question brought her family’s potty to the restaurant, placed it on a chair and let each of her two children sit on it. While eating. At a table. In the middle of the dining room.”

“Kimberly Decker, a mother of three, saw the incident as it was happening. She took a picture with her phone and shared it on her Facebook wall, KXNT reports. The photo has since been taken down.”

” ‘She had to undo the jumpsuits, and take them all the way down so they were completely nude, with the jumpsuits down to their ankles just eating their chicken nuggets, sitting on little toddler potties,” Decker told KSLTV. Many patrons, herself included, were horrified, she added. “The more you thought about it, the more unappetizing everything looked around me.” she added.

I truly try not to judge but if you are at that stage in potty training where they are just getting awareness and need to be naked to rush to the potty or need to stay on the potty then you just need to stay at home.

If you want to put a potty in your kitchen so they can run to it when they feel the sensation, go for it.  But not IN a restaurant AT the table.

Have I had kids running around naked at my HOME figuring out when they need to go potty? Yes.

Have I had a potty on my kitchen floor so they could run there from the family room? Yes.

Have I kept a potty in the back of my car and used it on the side of the road (blocked from sight by my car)? Yes!

Have I been grossed out by a public restroom and taken a child out to my car to use the restroom? Yes. (But always trying to hide it as much as possible and not where people are eating food!)

So what do you think? Have you potty trained in a restaurant? Have you taken a potty inside? Have you used it at the table? What is the mom thinking? Do you think it was real or a prank?

Based on a couple of things I’ve seen — I believe this happened. The worst I’ve seen in public was at a nice, sit-down restaurant. The couple seated next to me had a small child still in diapers. The mother continuously allowed the baby to STAND on the table with bare feet and then bounced the baby’s diaper covered butt on the top of the table for 10 – 15 minutes. Not nearly as offensive as what happened above but a bit unnerving none the less. Another issue is people throwing dirty diapers out of the car window OR stuffing them under furniture of clothing racks at the mall. Incredible

I guess she is just teaching them that if they have to go, they can go ANYWHERE. No need to hold it till you get home…..just go ahead.

To actually pull the potty out of the car, put it in a restaurant is just crazy. But to then strip your child down, sit him on the potty while eating….in a public restaurant….well that’s a whole ‘nother can of crazy.

Would this not be the perfect situation where DSS should take a look at the welfare of the child/children under this woman’s care?

Is it so hard to take the kids to the restroom? Obviously she had an inclination they needed to use the bathroom. Some parents are the reason that childless people don’t want to be around small kids, and this mother is a prime example!

Y’all, I potty trained twins, and this is a new one to me. I honestly have no idea what the mother was thinking – would SHE really want to eat somewhere next to someone taking a dump?

Also, where was restaurant management? I can’t believe they’d be okay with this. What if a health inspector happened to walk in unannounced?

@Mike – that’s fairly ignorant. I have many Mormon friends, and although I do not agree with their religious beliefs, I highly doubt this is par for the course with Mormon upbringing.

@mike – what an ignorant and uneducated statement that was. You are pre-judging. Not every person in Utah is Mormon. No where in the article did it state this idiot was a Mormon. She may not even have lived in Utah, maybe visiting? Maybe driving through that beautiful state?

I come from a long line of Mormons and spent 1/2 of my youth in Salt Lake City and surrounding area…..don’t be hating what you don’t know. Educate yourself. But then again, I’m going to take a guess at this, you are an Obama supporter?

EDUCATION. It’s a valuable thing.

Why didn’t the restaurant staff step in?
I agree…stay home, order -in, grab take-out, get a sitter…Inconsiderate of everyone there-including the children.

If taking a photo of your child naked constitutes child porn, what does stripping them in public constitute?

That’s disgusting. Ewwwww. Ewwww. Ewwww.

I also think it’s disgusting when people change their child’s diaper in a car and then just throw the dirty, old one on the ground. Even taped up, that’s gross. Is it THAT hard to walk a few feet and throw it in the trash can rather than leave it somewhere for someone to potentially step on?

#2 she has nobody to blame but her self when the kids wet her diningroom set…preferably when company is over.

I believe Mike met to say morons not mormoms. This is very gross and should have been reported to management and made them leave then sanitize the whole area. by not letting them know how would they know to clean the area before someone else sat there. Please when you see something like this report it! An example kids at a buffet licking the spoon and then putting it back in the food.

Yuck. I was eating at the snack area of a Costco a few years ago when someone decided to change their infant’s diaper on one of the tables. Pretty much ruined my lunch, I must say.

Wow, Mayhem. You’re as bad as Mike. Of course it’s ridiculous to say a Utah mom who does this must be a Mormon. But it’s just as ridiculous to say someone who says that must be an Obama supporter. Can you really not see that you just did the same thing he did?

FCM — I tried pulling the video footage from the original news station that reported it. However, I have an embed code problem so I couldn’t do it. The photo has been pulled but the HuffPo had a screen grab of it. So it the place where you guys could see the photo and the footage.

This mom is clearly insane. If she thinks this is normal behavior…it makes you wonder what else she would do. This has to violate some kind of health law- if I saw this myself at a restaurant, I am calling for the manager! GROSS!

@HB – I said that since I have heard too many people who are afraid of Mormons as they think Mormonism is a cult, because of the show Sister Wives. They have no clue that the church BANNED polygamy over 100 years ago, but there are some “extremists” who still practice polgamy. That’s why they live in extremely rural areas…they are NOT mainstream Mormons. The “sister wives” are a sect of Mormon, as the Extreme Islamists are a sect of Islam. The religion of Islam is a peaceful religion, it’s the RADICALS of that religion that people are afraid of. But those who are uneducated, are afraid of anyone who is Islamic.

People do not educate themselves. Statements like Mike’s prove that!!!

No, I have never potty trained in a restaurant, nor have I ever taken a potty seat inside..Like ps, potty trained twins and never did anything quiet this stupid (my opinion)..If I had of been in the same restaurant with her and had I of seen this, I would of said something to management then..

Also, can someone help me with what the part int eh video where it says that the mother that saw this had just finished potty training her son and wasn’t able to leave the house for several days because of this..Since when does potty training require you to stay in the house for days?

I used one of those stand-alone potties with my first child only once (someone had given it to me).

It was disgusting, so I bought a seat that fit over the big toilet seat. It cost $2 at the grocery store. They put the seat on, went on the big potty, and the waste was flushed away. We put a stepstool in the bathroom so that they could reach.

I would NEVER have had a potty in the kitchen or living room. Everyone knows you don’t $h1t where you eat!

Now, they have regular toilet seats with little kid-size seats that fold down from inside the lid. Very cool, I saw them at Home Depot.

I heard this on the radio this morning. REALLY? As I have said many times before, I see LOTS of people. Many out there are simply NUTS. Manners, courtesty and common sense have evaporated from many segments of our society. It is all about ME and who gives a toot what anyone else thinks.

I have worked with Mormons and while I am not Mormon, those that I have worked with are some of the nicest people I have ever met. Their children are polite and mannerly…’nuff said.

We never carried a potty with us. I did carry all sorts of wipes to clean-up toilets. I remember YEARS AGO, we were driving in South Georgia. No cell phones nor GPS. No “clean” potties in sight but we did see an elementary school. I asked my husband to pull in. I took my then 5 year old son ( who most certainly was fully potty trained) right in the main entrance and looked for the restrooms…which he used. Of course, that was way before they had security at the front desk. I saw a teacher, on the way out, and said, “We are from Atlanta. I teach Kinder. We needed a clean rest room. Thank you.” She replied, “Help yourself and safe travels!”

yes…This type of behavior out of an adult is discusting. It only teaches the child that it is OK to “go potty” anyplace you want to. My guess is that the mother is just too frggin’ lazy to put her Big Mac down, and take the kid to the restroom.

In addition to the mother being reprimanded or reported, the restaurant management should be reported to the local health department. Also, this is why it’s not OK to change a baby’s diaper on the seat tray in an airplane. Same thing.

People are pigs. Really. There aren’t words harsh enough for that mother and any others like her. I once witnessed a couple changing a dirty (not wet, dirty) diaper on the table at Denny’s while the 2 other couples they were with just sat there. We complained and left. I really despise pigs like these.

Agree w/MJG, “manners, courtesy and common sense have evaporated from many segments of our society. It’s all about ME.” This mother cares nothing about the consideration of others. The restaurant better care if she does not. This blog could go on forever about rude, disrespectful, inconsiderate “adults” who demonstrate such public actions in “rearing” their children.

Why didn’t anyone say anything to the mother? Why go to management? Why not go directly to the source of the problem. That’s what I would have done. I’d have walked up to that woman and asked if she needed any help.

I used wash diapers not dirty plastic throw aways. I potty trained my children at home no problems. Our relegious believes had nothing to do how I taught them, and if I needed to change a diaper I did it On My lap or a blanket and used wipes and soap and water. I would not put them on a table I had blankets for the floor to have them lye on.The fact that this mother had her children in a leued situation with no cloths on she should be charged with promoting porno.

The main reason this is not appropriate is because we are trying to teach our children to use the RESTROOM. this is just telling them that they can go to the bathroom anywhere. If you are going to do that just leave a diaper on. I mean if I an adult walked into a restaurant and pulled out a bucket put in on a chair and stripped down I would be asked to leave. What if the potty chair had fallen on the floor? You say you put yours in the kitchen on the floor. I personally would not do that as I said I want my kids to learn to use the restroom but at least you put it on the floor. NOT THE TABLE!
Also, in the pic there is a stroller too. She has twins, a stroller, food and then 2 potty chairs. Why make life any harder than it has to be. Can you imagine lugging all that stuff around.
