Henson Company breaks off relationship with Chick-Fil-A over gay marriage stance

The Jim Henson Company has announced via it’s Facebook page that it no longer wishes to partner with Chick-Fil-A because Henson’s company supports gay marriage.

The Huffington Post:

“… on Friday, the Jim Henson Company posted the following statement to their Facebook page:”

“The Jim Henson Company has celebrated and embraced diversity and inclusiveness for over fifty years and we have notified Chick-Fil-A that we do not wish to partner with them on any future endeavors. Lisa Henson, our CEO is personally a strong supporter of gay marriage and has directed us to donate the payment we received from Chick-Fil-A to GLAAD. (http://www.glaad.org/)”

“With this, The Jim Henson Company joins the ranks of Boston Mayor Thomas Menino, who has vowed to block Chick-fil-A from opening a restaurant in the city, office star Ed Helms who tweeted that the chain had “lost a loyal fan,” and the countless individuals who have taken to social media to voice disapproval, including those planning a National Same Sex Kiss Day on August 3, in condemning the Chick-Fil-A’s CEO’s opposition to same sex marriage. “

A fan site reports that Chick-Fil-A kids meals were featuring a Jim Henson Creature Shop make-your-own puppet toy from mid July to Aug. 18th.

How do you feel about  Chick-Fil-A’s stance on gay marriage? Does it influence your decision to buy your food there either way? If you are offended, it is hard to give it up? (That is some yummy chicken.) Do you think the owners should stop talking about their views?

(I know this is a polarizing issue but please try to stay polite and discuss it like adults. No name calling please.)

All I can say is “Eat mo’ chikn” my friends. It is so nice to have a company that always supports values over the prospect of making more money. Top notch company with good products. Looks like no more muppets for me–how about a cow hand puppet and a rubber chicken instead?.

We don’t have a Chick-Fil-A here in my area, but if we did, I would support them 100%. They are a Christian resaurant and I am glad that they are standing up for their rights. Good job, Chick-Fil-A. Keep up the good works!

Apparently, in the Gay community, free speech and the freedom to pursue your own values is reserved only for those who believe the same way the Gays do. Shame on Lisa Henson!

Ms. Progress….Jesus said, for example, to the prostitute….”Go and sin no more” I think we can apply that to all sorts of behaviors…Guttony, Lying, Stealing, Murder, Drunkenness, Homosexuality, Prostitution, Adultery, Child Abuse….wow, the list is a long one. Jesus hated sin, not the sinner. Sure he hung with all sorts of sinners, but he effected change in their lives. No amount of PC talk and tolerance talk will make it right in the eyes of God…the Bible tells me so.

Everyone of these so-called “Christians” are applauding these bigots for “standing by their beliefs” What if they said they opposed inter-racial marriage? Would you still say they’re entitled to their Christian beliefs?

For me it is not so much about Chick Fil A voicing their opinion against Gay rights, it is the amount of money they have contributed towards anti Gay causes. The amount is in the millions. I don’t want any of my money going towards this cause therefore will not be buying anything from Chick Fil A.

Why did God create homesexuality, (it has been evidenced in over 70 species of animals as well), if it is a sin? Is he a sadist creating a trait that will result in eternal damnation?

Shall I now boycott my friend’s gyro wrap restaurant because he is a Muslim and does not believe in gay marriage either? This is asinine. Let people stick by their religious beliefs without boycotting their restaurants and condemning them. Talk about intolerant! We’re talking about a freakin chicken sandwich here. People are just complete idiots nowadays.

I am deeply saddened by so called Christians who say they support gay marriage. Being a Christian doesn’t mean you just believe Jesus died for our sins and you’re good to go. Truly believing in Jesus means to follow Him. And you can’t follow Him and have different opinions from His at the same time. Yes, He loves all of us but that doesn’t mean He accepts our actions. If God is against homosexuality, how can we be for it?

Let’s see Chick-Fil-A is still willing to serve sandwiches to gays, it is just that they are honoring what they believe to be true! But Henson will not deal with Chick-Fil-A because they don’t like Chick-Fil-A’s ideas on marriage. Who here is being discriminate in their practice. Henson should voice there opinions as all Americans should do but continue to support them and work in changing attitudes – Oh that won’t work because it may be there own attitude gets changed. Oh well I have to side with Chick-Fil-A on this issue!

Why is it that the gay rights people think they can say and do anything they feel like saying or doing, but when Christians stand up for their rights, they are lambasted. This is just wrong. I can guarantee you that I will eat at Chick-fil-A even MORE now than I used to. Thank you Cathey family for sticking with your morals. The Lord will settle this matter one day. The Word of God states: “You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination” (Leviticus 18:22) The Bible is right anyhow. The same is for a woman and a woman! May God continue to bless those who stand up for what’s right when everything around them is going wrong! Praise the Lord Saints of the Most High God everywhere!

When I woke up this morning I thought this was a free country with free speech and as a country we openly respect those with support or non supportive opinions. Chick FilA is free to express they will not support gay marriage. It is their right. The Jim Henson Company rather than looking at this as Chick FilA’s opinion and keeping it on a business is business; they are taking it too personal. So what if the company does support or doesn’t support. They are a good company and provide a quality product. They don’t short change their customers and you never hear a customer getting sick eating their food. Their employees are well trained and never met a rude employee. If the mayor of Boston vows to keep them out of Boston, that’s just fine. But they need to remember, if you are keeping companies out becuase they have a moral standard, you lose jobs and income and nobody wins. I have gay friends who I love. But even I do not condone gay marriage.

CFA, is doing what all christians must do,take bold stands for their faith and beliefs. But most importantly not forcing their beliefs down anyone’s throat. There is no political agenda with CFA. They didn’t just come out of the closet, they have the same rights to their opinion as any other group, that’s what makes us great as a nation and as a people to be different have different views and still respect each other and live together.CFA did not condone or condem anyone’s life style, just stated their position.Christians can love the person and dislike the life style.

True it’s over a sandwhich, but don’t come talking about this god is all loving and right when he allows women to be raped or children to be drowned just because he doesn’t like how the world is going. The rainbow is supposedly (according to most christians) the symbol and promise that you will not be drowned again, but Burned..like thats suppose to make people feel better. LOL

I agree with Gimmeabreak, Amy, and some others…. Chick-fil-A should be applauded for not giving into the “popular” opinion of today’s (American) society and standing by their beliefs. I guess at the same time, some may say that Truitt (and whoever) else owns or has big stock in Chick-fil-A are money hungry badgers for their outrageous prices to which some people would say is ‘UnGodly” but that just might make for a different debate later on…..

A value should build society up and not break it down. Just because the bible says so doesn’t mean you should use it as a weapon. Jesus taught tolerance and not pride.

So , , , Chick-Fil-A was willing to work with the Henson group, in spite of their support for gay marriage. But the Henson group won’t work with Chick-Fil-A because they have a strong Christian belief in the purpose of marriage.

And that makes Chick-Fil-A intolerant? Umm . . . no . . .

Chick-Fil-A donates to anti-gay marriage groups! They are not just stating there stance, they are actively using the profits from the company to discriminate against a group of people. As for gay marriage, if the supreme court has clearly said that there is a separation between church and state, then why would the government have a leg to stand on when it comes to blocking gay marriage? Regardless of whether it is right or wrong in the eyes of the Lord, a life partner should have the rights to make medical decisions on behalf of there loved ones, jointly own property, etc. etc. Before you bash me for being a homosexual liberal communist devil worshiper, know that I am a married man, who is a christian and attends church and I am a registered republican. Chick Fil A can have any beliefs they want, but once they take profits and donate them to any anti-HUMAN BEING group, then they open themselves up to this.

I’m disgusted. How dare you people say that Chick-fil-A’s owner can’t have an opinion. The only hateful people are those people trying to cram gay marriage down peoples throat. I am perfectly capable of believing that same-sex relationships are wrong without hating anyone, but apparently all of you people are not. You don’t know how to simply disagree, instead you go shouting that people “hate you”. That simply is not true. You will not pressure me (and apparently Chick-fil-A) into accepting what God said is clearly wrong. The one thing you all forget is that real Christians will not place your worldly opinions higher than that of God.

FREEDOM of religion does not mean Christians only(that means if you choose not to practice one at all). I think gay people are simply saying hey..don’t discriminate against them. The issue is that you christians think it’s the only religion in America. You do realize that its a minority religion when it comes to the whole world right? In the most 100 influences in history Jesus is 3rd? Expand yourselves- everyone doesn’t care about the bible.

For all you biblical scholars out there – I respect your belief that Bible is against homosexual marriage. I hope you’re not eating the pulled pork at the BBQ joint or hitting the shrimp and lobster at Red Lobster. Remember – Leviticus states that these are unclean. Either you follow the Bible or you don’t. If pick and choose which verses to follow to support your prejudices that would make you a hypocrite. And we can’t have that.

Leviticus also says it is okay to have your way with a slave that is soon to be another man’s wife as long as you pay the guy. It also tells us not to wear clothes made of two types of fabric, a violation I am sure you ignore frequently. I could go on all day with the inanity of the Bible.

Half of these comments are off base and pathetic. Just because Chick-Fil-A doesn’t believe in gay marriage doesn’t mean they won’t serve gay people. I love how it’s the cool thing these days to stand up and be loud for what you believe in, except when a few people disagree. It’s not like Chik-Fil-A is making gays eat out back and drink from different water fountains, they just simply believe marriage is for a man and a woman. Since when are they not entitled to an opinion? They have done more for communities around this country than any gay club or group, so stick to the actual issues instead of getting off the path and making stupid comments that aren’t even related.
