Henson Company breaks off relationship with Chick-Fil-A over gay marriage stance

The Jim Henson Company has announced via it’s Facebook page that it no longer wishes to partner with Chick-Fil-A because Henson’s company supports gay marriage.

The Huffington Post:

“… on Friday, the Jim Henson Company posted the following statement to their Facebook page:”

“The Jim Henson Company has celebrated and embraced diversity and inclusiveness for over fifty years and we have notified Chick-Fil-A that we do not wish to partner with them on any future endeavors. Lisa Henson, our CEO is personally a strong supporter of gay marriage and has directed us to donate the payment we received from Chick-Fil-A to GLAAD. (http://www.glaad.org/)”

“With this, The Jim Henson Company joins the ranks of Boston Mayor Thomas Menino, who has vowed to block Chick-fil-A from opening a restaurant in the city, office star Ed Helms who tweeted that the chain had “lost a loyal fan,” and the countless individuals who have taken to social media to voice disapproval, including those planning a National Same Sex Kiss Day on August 3, in condemning the Chick-Fil-A’s CEO’s opposition to same sex marriage. “

A fan site reports that Chick-Fil-A kids meals were featuring a Jim Henson Creature Shop make-your-own puppet toy from mid July to Aug. 18th.

How do you feel about  Chick-Fil-A’s stance on gay marriage? Does it influence your decision to buy your food there either way? If you are offended, it is hard to give it up? (That is some yummy chicken.) Do you think the owners should stop talking about their views?

(I know this is a polarizing issue but please try to stay polite and discuss it like adults. No name calling please.)

I agree that the company has the right to “believe” in what it *thinks* the bible meant, but to physically put money towards organizations that promote hate, supression, and un-equal rights? That is what goes beyond the line. I have no doubt Chic-Fil-a would also donate to anything anti-black (and THEN what would everyone say???)

Omg….

You are so wrong in my opinion based on what I have seen in life. Often….it is not a choice for some. With some, it is. Some have tried to change their sexual orientation for various reasons (trying to please family and church primarily) and it is just not in their true nature. It is natural for me to be with a woman….and….for me….unnatural (repulsive actually) to be with a man. I could not change to being gay no matter how much I tried (and I have no physical desire to try)…..it just comes natural for me to NOT be gay. But not so for some.

We all will have to take a stand on this and other Biblical truths now and in the near future. Chick-fil-A is right on when they warn about God’s judgment on taking pride in lawlessness, the Church should be doing that as well. It’s coming one day that unless you have his mark you can’t buy or sell. How will you stand on that issue? The Bible is plain if you have eyes that see and ear’s that hear! As for me and my house we will follow the Lord. Any questions read the book.

I thought freedom of speech was for every one including business owners. I applaude Mr. Cathey for his stand on marriage. I and my family will continue to support Chick-Fil-A. May God bless and keep you. He is the one that gives increase.

I am a Catholic, not a Baptist, Jew, Muslim, athiest, etc. Just because we have different beliefs does not mean I love and respect them any less. Some Catholics are butts. There are butts in every religion and organization. My beliefs do not hurt anyone. Every person or organization has the right to their own beliefs as long as they are not hateful. I honestly do not believe the comments made by C-F-A were hateful. If they were hateful I would drop them like a very hot chicken. Marriage between two people of the same sex is not hateful, it is their religious beliefs. They are not saying homosexuals are not allowed in their place of business, that homosexuals must sit in the back of the bus, can’t drink from the same water fountain or use the same toilets, can’t attend the same schools as their children do, or burn crosses in front of their homes and places of worship. I don’t see them conducting war with, and killing people because they are homosexuals. CFA is stating their beliefs, not being hateful. I believe homosexuals have the right to marry someone they love. I believe that CFA has the right to express their religious beliefs. EVERYONE has the right to express their beliefs. I will not stop believing homosexuals have the right to marry someone they love of the same sex, nor will I stop frequenting CFA because of their religious belief. Come on folks, which of you have the same beliefs as everyone else on every thing? Are you going to stop going everywhere? Stop talking to everyone? etc.?

To Tampa Gator: Why was the 1940s the “dark ages?” “The “Dark Ages” was a historical periodization emphasizing the cultural and economic deterioration that supposedly occurred in Europe following the decline of the Roman Empire.” If anything, that term would more accurately apply to today than in the 1940s, when America defeated the axis powers and liberated Europe from Hitler (the most hateful and intolerant man who had ever lived) and the Nazis. We are witnessing the cultural and economic decline of our nation today by people who proclaim the virtures of diversity and intolerence while at the same time being non-inclusive and intolerant of ANYONE who disagrees with them. Think man…THINK!

They have every right to exist under the U.S. Constitution….as long as their organization does not start to abuse the rights of others…..and that might have happened in Colorado……with the NRA helping get passed the assualt weapons laws (or prevented the curbing the limitation of the sell of them). I have no issue with people owning shotguns and handguns….legally….for hunting and other recreational activities that make sense. But why do American citizens need multiple assault weapons and tons of ammo to go with them? That collection has only one purpose….to kill people….including those who just want to watch a movie with friends and family. I am hoping that something good comes from thir horror….please God.

Question: Did Cathy make this statement as a representative of Chick Fil A…..or did he make it from a personal point of view.

He was speaking on behalf of the entire corporation

Just curious. It really doesn’t matter either way.

And I disagree. Had he stated that this is his personal view and not dragged the Chick-fil-A name into it, I would still buy their product.

Even were he to recant his statement, my relationship with Chick-fil-A would still be over. In fact I would lose what respect for the man that I still have.

And all this crap about denying him his free speech — BS. No one here has said that Dan Cathy doesn’t have a right to his views or he doesn’t have a right to express them.

The point is, that by expressing his views, and dragging Chick-fil-A into this, Dan Cathy will have to face consequences.

Jeez, no surprises here. You’d have to live under a rock to not realize Chik-fil-a is a Christian based private organization. As a gay man, I’ve recognized this for years but I salute them for publicly sharing their beliefs. Do I see them differently now — nope, not a bit. Still love their food and especially their excellent service. Kudos to Chik-fil-a for taking a stand. Do I agree, no — but that’s ok.

Immorality, really? You think homosexuality is immoral? I can’t stress enough to those that seem not to understand, homosexuality is not a choice. You are either heterosexual or homosexual, you can’t change that. It’s no one’s fault that they are gay. Just as it’s no one’s fault they are female, black, Asian, etc. Yes, CFA is entitled to voice their opinion, but the root of the matter is same sex marriage. Why prohibit equal rights? Why should same sex couples not be allowed to marry??

July 24th, 2012

Don’t eat chicken but if I did I would buy it from Chick-Fil-A if they served good chicken. Freedom of speech and opinion is guaranteed in the Constitution even if you don’t agree with what others believe. I also would eat in a good restaurant if it was operated by gay owners or folks who backed gay marriage even if I personally do not. What makes this a great country is the fact that each of us is entitled to our own views on issues even the devisive ones and we should respect the rights of others to respectfully disagree without being hateful about it. Heck..even my wife and I disagree at times although I am smart enough to keep my mouth shut when we do. Hypocrisy is indded a two way street!

ChickFilAForver…..

I don’t need a history lesson on the Dark Ages…..it was a time of nearly total religious, social, and political intolerance and abuse of individual freedoms where anyone who did not think according to the church led governement was either severely tortured (mentally and physically) or killed. I think Hiter and the Nazis fulfilled each one of those three categories…..and therefore came my association of the Dark Ages to what happened in the 1940s.

….and I think I have clearly stated that I agree with your last sentence this morning. You can’t have it just one way…..and that moderation is the solution…..not polarization of left and right points of view. And there is a lot of polarization on here this morning……and very little compromise of solution being discussed. But that is America today….isn’t it?
