The Jim Henson Company has announced via it’s Facebook page that it no longer wishes to partner with Chick-Fil-A because Henson’s company supports gay marriage.
“… on Friday, the Jim Henson Company posted the following statement to their Facebook page:”
“The Jim Henson Company has celebrated and embraced diversity and inclusiveness for over fifty years and we have notified Chick-Fil-A that we do not wish to partner with them on any future endeavors. Lisa Henson, our CEO is personally a strong supporter of gay marriage and has directed us to donate the payment we received from Chick-Fil-A to GLAAD. (http://www.glaad.org/)”
“With this, The Jim Henson Company joins the ranks of Boston Mayor Thomas Menino, who has vowed to block Chick-fil-A from opening a restaurant in the city, office star Ed Helms who tweeted that the chain had “lost a loyal fan,” and the countless individuals who have taken to social media to voice disapproval, including those planning a National Same Sex Kiss Day on August 3, in condemning the Chick-Fil-A’s CEO’s opposition to same sex marriage. “
A fan site reports that Chick-Fil-A kids meals were featuring a Jim Henson Creature Shop make-your-own puppet toy from mid July to Aug. 18th.
How do you feel about Chick-Fil-A’s stance on gay marriage? Does it influence your decision to buy your food there either way? If you are offended, it is hard to give it up? (That is some yummy chicken.) Do you think the owners should stop talking about their views?
(I know this is a polarizing issue but please try to stay polite and discuss it like adults. No name calling please.)

cynthiam, the glaring double standing is the inequality of the right to marry. i didn’t choose to be gay, this is the way God created me. i’ve been in a loving relationship with the same wonderful man for 18 years. yet i have no legal right to marry him. Double Standard. this makes us feel like 3rd class citizens. perhaps we should sit in the back of the bus? what if your son or daughter were gay, would you be happy that society treated them differently? it’s a terrible feeling. because, homosexual or heterosexual, you can’t change who you are.

Jen…..
First….I have had a wonderful life….and still do living on the beach in Clearwater. Second….I do not listen to talk radio. I do not believe in mind control. Third…..you can think (I am a bafoon in your humble opinion) whatever you like about me….and express it freely…..and that is what makes America great….don’t you agree? Now….don’t be late for church on Sunday….you need to continue the Sunday school lessons on harsh judgement of others….for not thinking just like you,

In truth, “conservative” and “christian” are oxymorons.
Most who profess a belief they’ve bought their place in salvation are in for a brutal surprise.
As a man, Christ clearly had little in common with the political right in modern American life and would likely have little patience for their misplaced and frequent invocation of his name.

Being anti- gay marriage is not “Hate”. I support traditional marriage because it has been the cornerstone of society for several thousand years. I do not hate all gays (I of course hate the liberal gays , just I hate the liberal straights), I do not even think about gays enough on a daily basis to elicit a strong feeling about them. That being said, I am strongly (read utterly) spiteful, and when things are thrust in my face ( “we’re hear, we’re queer and were in your face!”, was their cry), I generally push back in the opposite direction. I am an atheist, but when I worked at chick-fil-a in high school, their christian viewpoint was always present, and I did not whine and moan about it. I only wanted my paycheck, I was not working there to make a social statement or change the world. So many people think the world should give a damn about them..when in fact, were busy.
p.s., Other than Dr. Julius Strangepork, the Muppet’s have always kind of sucked, in my opinion. Puppetry is not a very 21st century medium.

@ Angela – The Muppets had a business partnership with Chick-Fil-A. That is different from Penn State. As far as the “sustaining value of food”, fast food with it’s high sodium and other junk is not exactly life sustaining. Much of their sales are for fried chicken, including the fried chicken biscuits mentioned a few times in this blog. Those of you who are increasing your visits due to this controversy, be careful about that or your lot will dwindle out.

I beg to differ. I know a lot about the employee training programs at Chick Fil A vs. other FF chains.
I worked for Chick-fil-A as my first job in the early 70s so I have experienced that employee training. Of course back then they were mainly a mall oriented food service industry with only the Dwarf House and an East Point location as outside the mall stores and the training was up to the individual store managers.

Words from the #1 hater of all time.
John 8:34Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin. 35“The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son does remain forever. 36“So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed. 37“I know that you are Abraham’s descendants; yet you seek to kill Me, because My word has no place in you. 38“I speak the things which I have seen with My Father; therefore you also do the things which you heard from your father.”
39They answered and said to Him, “Abraham is our father.” Jesus said * to them, “If you are Abraham’s children, do the deeds of Abraham. 40“But as it is, you are seeking to kill Me, a man who has told you the truth, which I heard from God; this Abraham did not do. 41“You are doing the deeds of your father.” They said to Him, “We were not born of fornication; we have one Father: God.” 42Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I proceeded forth and have come from God, for I have not even come on My own initiative, but He sent Me. 43“Why do you not understand what I am saying? It is because you cannot hear My word. 44“You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies. 45“But because I speak the truth, you do not believe Me. 46“Which one of you convicts Me of sin? If I speak truth, why do you not believe Me? 47“He who is of God hears the words of God; for this reason you do not hear them, because you are not of God.”
Lord my prayer is that you would teach me to not be like the people of this world. To tolerate anothers views is not love, it is intstead not caring enough about the others well being to speak the truth no matter what it may cost me. To tolerate is to not know the love You give to those who earnestly seek You.
More words from the hater Jesus.
Luke 16:13“No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.”
It appears Mr. Cathy has chosen to love God.
More words from the Hater:
42Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I proceeded forth and have come from God, for I have not even come on My own initiative, but He sent Me.
Again:
John 14:15“If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.
Again: John 14:“If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him. 24“He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine, but the Father’s who sent Me.
I believe the Hater Jesus would say His Father was the Father of the Old Testament also.
Again some words from the Hater Jesus:
Revelations 3:19 ‘Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline; therefore be zealous and repent. 20‘Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me. 21‘He who overcomes, I will grant to him to sit down with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.
Seems Jesus believed in hell:
Matthew 10:28“Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
Seems Jesus understood He and His people would be called haters:
Matthew 10:34“Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35“For I came to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; 36and a man’s enemies will be the members of his household. 37“He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; and he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. 38“And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. 39“He who has found his life will lose it, and he who has lost his life for My sake will find it. 40“He who receives you receives Me, and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me. 41“He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward; and he who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward. 42“And whoever in the name of a disciple gives to one of these little ones even a cup of cold water to drink, truly I say to you, he shall not lose his reward.”
And some final words from the Hater who hated you enough to give His life for you so that you would no longer have to be ruled by what ever sin you are a slave to.
16“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. 17“For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. 18“He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19“This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil. 20“For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21“But he who practices the truth comes to the Light, so that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought in God.”
One final thought. If I do not believe exactly all of the words of Jesus can I really say I have believed in Jesus?

Jill wants to marry her first cousin. Frank wants to marry both Becky and Sarah. Why does marriage have to be limited to two people who are not related? Where does it all end? Marriage is what it is and there are limits on everything. You don’t have the right to walk naked down the street, and marriage is something reserved for a man and a woman. If gays don’t like it too bad. There are civil unions that give gay couples rights, so don’t come on here and whine that you can’t visit your gay partner in a hospital or claim their inheritence. It’s simply not true, so stop spreading lies to advance your agenda.

CFA is a Christian company. I know that when I pass by one each morning on my way to work. The founder, his family, and his executive staff do not represent me or my beliefs in any way shape or form. While Cathy certainly has the right to believe and say what he wants, he also has to know that his views can and will be seen and judged.
I have yet to see why he felt the need to make a statement on something that has no bearing on his company. If I want to hear about chicken, I turn to the Cathy family. If I want to hear about civil rights, then I turn to my own heart.

To the uniformed, Christianity is not a religion. If you study religions that exist in the world today, you will discover that they are all rooted one of three concepts, or a combination of the three. These concepts are : Epistemology: In this system you must discover and master a set of truths and faithfully pursue them throughout your lifetime. In this concept of religion thinking or knowledge becomes the means by which you reach God. 2) Existentialism. In this system the objective is to engage in the mythical. In other words, to reach out to God with your feelings, and discover some new kind of mystical experience that will redefine life for you and set you on the path toward God. In this system of religion feeling and experience become the means through which you reach God. 3) Pragmatism. In this system of religion, the emphasis is upon actions, or in other words, what you do. It consists of a set of rules ( often lengthy) that you must follow. If you faithfully do these things then you will eventually get to God. Christianity is not rooted in ANY of these concepts: hence it is not a religion. Jesus did not come in to the world to give us new knowledge about God, nor a new experience of God, nor tell us new things to do to become like God. He came to be God among us. In other words, if you look at Jesus you re actually seeing God. His claim was ontological (nature of being), based on His actually being God in the flesh. In John 1:1 we read the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. Christianity is vastly different from the religions of the world for three reasons: first, it does not rest upon mastering a set of beliefs: second, it does not rest upon having certain mystical life – changing experiences: third, it does not rest upon living a good life. Rather, it rests totally upon the person and work of Jesus Christ. In Timothy 1:12, Paul did not say I know what I have believed, but rather I know in whom I have believed. There is a major difference! If you take any of the religious founders out of their particular brand of religion, i.e. Buda, Mohammed, Confucius, etc., it will not make much difference. The important thing in their religion is not the founder, but the teachings they passed on. By their own confession, they were just prophets or the means through which God’s message was channeled. But, if you try to take Christ out of Christianity, the whole system collapses. You cannot take Christ out of Christianity for Christianity is Christ! It is based solely upon His work, and absolutely nothing else! In conclusion, we note three compelling reasons why Christianity is the only true way to God: 1) Incarnation. Jesus did not come as a representative of God, but as God. None of the religious founders ever claimed to be God. But Jesus did! He said, if you have seen Me you have seen the Father (John 14:9). 2) Salvation. Jesus came in to our world for one purpose – to save us from our sins. He went to the cross, and took upon Himself our punishment, thereby becoming the means through which we are saved. His resurrection proves that He accomplished what He came to do. None of the religious founders ever claimed to be the means through which one might be saved. They could not, for they were acutely aware of their own need for salvation – hence their personal search for God. 3) Transformation. Jesus said you must be born again. (John 3:3). You cannot become a Christian by merely accepting a set of beliefs, or by having certain types of mystical experiences, or by attempting to live a good life. None of these things will make you a Christian. The only way to become a Christian is to be born again by the power of almighty God (2 Cor. 5) No religion in the world can make the claim that you can b born again and start life anew. So, are there many paths to God? The world, even many evangelical Christians, would say yes! But the TRUTH is, regardless of the system of religion you choose, it will not get you to God. Th Apostle Paul made it clear – God saved us, not because of righteous things we that we had done, but because of His mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit (Titus 3:5). And, just in case there is still some question regarding the issue, Jesus, who was Very God, said, I am the way, the truth, the life. No man comes to the Father, except through Me (John 6:4), issue settled!
Paul

Yes, Chick-Fil-A has always been very open about their Christian beliefs. But what I don’t understand is that that Christians claim to follow the teachings of Christ. Christ taught love for all unconditionally. The only passage inside of the Bible that speaks against man lying with man is in the Old Testament. The Old Testament was written for and by jews before Jesus was born. If this is where they get their justification, then why do they serve bacon?

If I boycotted every company I disagreed with from their social or political stands, I would have to just about everything myself. You are not endorsing their veiws by merely buying a product they make and people that work for them do not always share their veiws, so you would punish them too? Calling for this type of backlash is not about CFA’s being honest about their founders belief, it is about the gay rights activists flexing their muscle, with no thought to the employees of CFA. What happened to this is a free country and each individuals choice. I think it is silly and do not subscribe to boycotting over differing veiws. Last I looked America was a free country and we should be able to disagree, this idea that if you do not agree with me you shall cease to exist is VERY UN American! It is also the liberal way of bulling people to change their veiws yet they are the ones talking about being accepeting of everything from abortions to gay marraige to what ever, yet they refuse to accept that someone does not share their view on gay marriage or abortion. I refuse to have my thoughts a idea’s controled by others unwilling to accept or agree to disagree to differnt opinions. Come on people you have minds of your own do not become someone elses puppet on a string to push their agenda what ever it may be….think for yourselves! Diversity, does that not include someone who believes in traditional marriage?

I am not opposed to gays and lesbians marrying each other, if that’s what they, as two consenting adults, want to do. At the same time, I don’t begrudge Truett Cathy’s opinion. I admire and respect him as a gentle, old-fashioned, hard-working man of principles and integrity. My parents were the same way, and they would have opposed same-sex marriage, too. In America, the way it’s supposed to work, is you have your opinion, and I have mine; and, since we disagree, we’ll discuss it politely, and then vote on it. But nowadays, if someone’s opinion differs from someone else’s — my God! You start hearing words like “hate-mongers” loosely tossed around, when in fact no one has said they hate anything at all. We’ve become a bunch of spoiled brats who cry “mommy” every time we don’t get our way.
That being said, I think I’ll have a Chick-Fil-A, waffle fries and a fresh-squeezed lemonade today. You boycotters enjoy your nasty Wendy’s “chicken” sandwich.

I’ve long wondered why the State should care enough about whether two people are enjoying a bodily function to issue a license. Now if a child results there is a vested interest – there is an interest in having that child, a new citizen, reared well. Let’s just let the churches ( or whatever ) “marry” couples as they choose, but issue State sanctioned licenses only if a child is born.

I think it’s disturbing that because the owner of Chick-Fil-A has differing beliefs or opinions, would excite such a response resulting in boycotting and at the same time promote such social media cruxificition and not realize at the same time Lisa Henson and others are also denying them their rights to believe otherwise. What a bunch of hypocrites!! So because they don’t support gay marriage, we’ll just pick up our marbles and go home?! What kind of social tolerence is that?! I’ll keep patronzing Chick-Fil-A, but what I’m wondering is will every business in the country take inventory as to an owner’s belief before they will donate or do good business or have good faith business practices in the community based on their beliefs? Where does that leave us because this Nation is made up of diverse beliefs, values, opinions, not only in family but in business, so I guess I can take a stand and never purchase any Jim Henson products because I don’t agree with their, aka Lisa Henson’s opinion, about purchasing a chicken sandwich and use the media to express that opinion. Huh? Where does that leave us people?!! C’mon already!!

I am a firm believer in equal rights for all, I do believe that the homosexual community should be allowed to get married, but I do understand Chick-Fil-A’s stand on the topic. This company has a strong Christian foundation and they are holding true to that, so I understand and respect their stand on the issue and will continue to support Chick-Fil-A as well as the homosexual community. Well…..let’s just keep on polarizing America…..just what the haters of freedom truly want. If you don’t believe it is happening….just look at what is going on in Washington. That polarization is destroying our country from within. Moderation is what works…..just as Ronald Reagan (second term) and Bill Clinton (second term). They both learned this truth from errors made in their first terms. We need less of the Tea Party right wing and less of the legal left wing……and more compromise and solution…..and denying the rights of any group……is right wing wrong….and trying to attacl those who speak their minds according to the Bill of Rights in the U.S. Constitution…..is left wing wrong. Providing rights to everyone and accepting the opinions of others….is middle wing right.

Andy, Richard, and all others opposing Chick-fil-A on here, why is it that liberals cannot understand the difference between supporting the traditional definition of marriage, and being anti-gay? Andy, most of the organizations you mentioned that the WinShape Foundation supports are simply conservative organizations that support a Biblical worldview and standing up for traditional Christian principles on a variety of issues. I believe only one of those groups, Exodus International, has the traditional definition of marriage as its primary or close to primary focus. None of these groups teach hate, bigotry, or intolerance. They teach that God loves all of us, regardless of our lifestyle and our faults, and that He can do a tremendous work in our lives if we will allow Him to. But they do uphold the Bible as the ultimate source of truth, and contrary to what some liberal theologians or those on the left would lead you to believe, the Bible is crystal clear that homosexuality (like lying, cheating on your spouse, lust, premarital sex, and many other things that straight people do) is sin.
Same sex couples can have domestic partnerships and civil unions all they want (depending on where they live), and most conservatives don’t get too upset. But when they want to call it MARRIAGE, that changes the very definition of a word that represents one of the very foundational institutions for our country. Once you change the term MARRIAGE to include two people of the same sex, you have changed the very essence of what the word has meant for centuries and centuries. Who’s to say we can’t call 3 men and 1 woman a marriage? How about a man and a dog? How about 4 men, 2 women, and their cats? At that point, the term “Marriage” ceases to have any real meaning. It’s not same sex couples that most conservatives are opposed to – it’s allowing them to call their relationship “marriage”.
Now for folks who choose not to believe the Bible, you can choose to believe what you want. But why the insistence on insulting the leaders of Chick-fil-A, who are simply seeking to live their lives and lead their company according to the values they believe in? Please get it through your heads: Supporting the traditional definition of marriage IS NOT ANTI-GAY! It is simply PRO TRADITIONAL MARRIAGE!
