Henson Company breaks off relationship with Chick-Fil-A over gay marriage stance

The Jim Henson Company has announced via it’s Facebook page that it no longer wishes to partner with Chick-Fil-A because Henson’s company supports gay marriage.

The Huffington Post:

“… on Friday, the Jim Henson Company posted the following statement to their Facebook page:”

“The Jim Henson Company has celebrated and embraced diversity and inclusiveness for over fifty years and we have notified Chick-Fil-A that we do not wish to partner with them on any future endeavors. Lisa Henson, our CEO is personally a strong supporter of gay marriage and has directed us to donate the payment we received from Chick-Fil-A to GLAAD. (http://www.glaad.org/)”

“With this, The Jim Henson Company joins the ranks of Boston Mayor Thomas Menino, who has vowed to block Chick-fil-A from opening a restaurant in the city, office star Ed Helms who tweeted that the chain had “lost a loyal fan,” and the countless individuals who have taken to social media to voice disapproval, including those planning a National Same Sex Kiss Day on August 3, in condemning the Chick-Fil-A’s CEO’s opposition to same sex marriage. “

A fan site reports that Chick-Fil-A kids meals were featuring a Jim Henson Creature Shop make-your-own puppet toy from mid July to Aug. 18th.

How do you feel about  Chick-Fil-A’s stance on gay marriage? Does it influence your decision to buy your food there either way? If you are offended, it is hard to give it up? (That is some yummy chicken.) Do you think the owners should stop talking about their views?

(I know this is a polarizing issue but please try to stay polite and discuss it like adults. No name calling please.)

God loves everyone. He hates all sin. And yes, homosexuality is sin. God will win this battle; satan will surely loose. As Christians, we can not allow homosexuals to make a mockery out of the sacred institution of marriage.

I, for one, will eat there more often. Chick-Fil-A should be applauded for standing up and saying what a majority of Americans believe.

Our country was founded on Christian beliefs. I wonder what our founding fathers would think of what has happened to the morals of society. What would they say to a President who believes in same sex marriage?
As a Christian, there are many verses within the Bible that explain what the definition of marriage is and that homosexulityis a sin.
God gave us the ability to make our own choices in life. The CHOICE of homosexuality is a sin.
The downward spiral of the US is found in the fact that our Christian beliefs are falling to the way side. Our laws and constituation are based on the Bible.
CFA is a major destination for our fast food fix. It will be even more of destination for standing up for morals. CFA was built by hard work and beliefs of thier founders. Do you think the fact that thier Christian beleifs have helped make them the great franchise they are? For those who are CHristinas, I am sure they do. For the non believers and liberals out there, they will say no.
According to Obama philosophy, they did not build the complany, someone else did.
Gays, Adulterers, Alcoholica, etc are all welcomed in our church. This nis where they need to be.

This statement by Mr. Cathy is bad for his business, I suspect. It certainly disappoints me as a CFA customer. Might have been better to keep his views to himself.

Mayor Menino seeks to ban Chick-Fil-A because it “discriminates.” How? Does it refuse to sell sandwiches to gay people? Refuse to hire them? No evidence of this. Chick-Fil-A is being condemned b/c its founder believes the same thing about marriage that every other great moral thinker in history has believed. It’s being condemned for committing a thought crime. Welcome to the Soviet Union.

All full-size Chick-fil-A locations have fudge brownies for sale & prominently displayed on their counters, packed in clear plastic containers.

You’d think that would make the man-man couples feel especially welcome and at home there.

Besides, aside from maybe heterosexual diabetics, who doesn’t love fudge?

This debate all ties in to the master plan of progressives. Their aim is to have anything negative of the gay lifestyle have the same shock value as the N word for racism for African Americans. If a white person uses that word ( and rightly so to be clear) their life professionally is pretty much over. There is big big difference in that “slang ” word used to denigrate African Americans than to tear down a worldly supported religion based on the creation of the universe. Their aim is convince that the bible was written by a few rich, mean white men and has no basis for moral authority.

1) I guess “open mindness” only counts when your own opinion is being expressed. So its ok to have an open mind about folks who approve gay marriage but not one for those who peacefully say they are against it?

2) I have seen MANY gay other cultures working at Chickfila even managers SOOOOO they don’t seem to discriminate against any type of minority gay/lesbians included or seem to be on a crusade to against it.

The owners of Chic-fil-a have a right to voice their beliefs as long as they don’t refuse to serve gay people which they would never do. Jim Hansen has a right to do business with whom ever he chooses. I don’t have the right to judge either for their opinion. I will continue eating at Chic-fil-a and have no problem with the muppets. Thanks to people who actually have an opinion and it doesn’t change everytime the wind blows.

Some people who are defending Chik-Fil-A are missing the point here. The Muppet people aren’t saying, “burn down Chik-Fil-A,” they’re saying, “we rather not work with this company anymore due to their position on something we feel strongly about. Chik-Fil-A will find someone else who doesn’t care about that position to take the Muppets place, the Muppets will find another company to produce products for, and everyone moves on. Gay groups are saying the same – “I rather not eat here because I can’t support a business that publicly is against my beliefs.” Nothing more. The only people who seem to be getting upset are the Conservatives that take the Muppets group’s position and that of Gay wishing to not eat there as some type of personal attack on them. Calm down, folks! Chik-Fil-A is going to survive this.

For all those who are using the Bible as a weapon, remember that marriage in the OT included polygamy, as the Mormons used to practice it. Frankly, heterosexual marriage is pretty shaky these days — 50% divorce rate?

Colleen….

I am sorry to inform you……but the BIBLE is not the end all of all truth. You may believe or think so…..but it is not so…..(if you don’t believe me…..read the U.S. Constitution after you read your Bible today). It clearly states…..”with freedom….comes responsibility.” Reponsiblity is making sure ALL of our citizens….regardless of sexual preference…..have their individual rights protected……

Examples:
1. The people living in the 13 colonies whose rights were being abused (with the Bibleused to support it)
2. Women in America whose rights were being abused (with the Bible used to support it)
3. Blacks in America whose rights were being abused (with the Bible used to support it)
4. Gay people whose rights are being abused (with the Bible used to support it)
5. Next???

This is why we have the U.S. Constitution to guide us…..and not the Bible.

Where was all of this moral outrage from liberals four years ago when Dem presidential front-runners Clinton and Obama (who was against it before he was for it) also stood against gay marriage? Of course, selective outrage isn’t limited to liberals, but my, they do seem to excel at it. As I friend of mine wrote yesterday, “If I boycotted every organization that didn’t hold to my religious and political views, I’d go broke, hungry, naked, and homeless.”

Well, I certainly have more to worry about than topics of this nature! Not much more, mind you, but this bothers me not at all. I don’t care who is for or against gay marriage; I don’t care who believes in the moon landing; I don’t care what Chick-Fil-A “stands for” when I want a sandwich; likewise, I don’t care what the Henson’s “stand for” if I want a Tickle Me Elmo. The term…..MARRIAGE…..is a outmoded term today. It should be change to “temporary union of two people”……regardless of sexual makeup or orientation…..and be used solely to protect the rights of those adults and children involved in that temporary union.

Somebody get the judge some Chick-Fil-A…maybe he’ll change his tune. I support same sex unions, Chick-Fil-A doesn’t. I can love my neighbors as myself, and Chick-Fil-A can selectively love whomever they like. I like Chick-Fil-A food and Chick-Fil-A likes my money. I choose to stick with things we can agree on. If I support or agree with adultry, isn’t that wrong? Where do you stand? What does eating chicken have to do with what goes on in someones bedroom?

I stopped being a customer of Chick-fil-a years ago as I realized their lack of inclusiveness and support of diversity. Anyone can have their own personal beliefs, but as my father always said, businesses need not let their personal beliefs become the issue for customers’ non-support.
This principle in many respects follows the principle of separation of Church and State as enumerated in the US Constitution. Our country was formed in opposition to England’s stance that the Anglican Church ruled the affairs of state. Any institution purporting to be a religious institution that proselytizes from the pulpit on matters of state needs to be taxed as any other business.
The rights granted to those who decide to marry are rights granted by the state. Our nation is founded on equality of all and therefore when two loving individuals decide to enter into a legal marriage they are granted equal rights under the law. To deny one class of citizens of this right is simply unconstitutional.
In this regard, Chick-fil-a has committed the biggest sin of their Church as well as the teachings of Jesus by not loving and embracing all mankind. By supporting inequality for all citizens they choose to go against the principles of our nation.
Frankly, it saddens me to see the views expressed herein of hate-mongers and those who cast stones at others.

I applaud Chick-Fil-A on their stance and previously I didn’t care to much for their food, now I will eat there alot. To those who say marriage should be between two adults, what about and dog and a human. when do you draw the line. Marriage is a union between a man and woman and the right morals will convict you of that. You don’t need to be a religious fanatic to understand that. The most diverse country in the world and it seems other Power countries don’t have this issue. Get it together people.
