Did New Jersey mom take 5-year-old in to tan with her?

A New Jersey mom has been arrested for taking her 5-year-old daughter into the tanning booth with her. It’s illegal for kids under 14 to tan in New Jersey. (You need to click this link and watch the video of the mom. Her tan is pretty tan. Also check out how fair the daughter is. I cannot emphasize this enough. Click the link!!!  Watch the video!)

The mom says it’s just a misunderstanding. She says she took her daughter with her into the room but not into the actual tanning machine. (You can’t leave a 5-year-old in the lobby alone.)

She says her fair, redheaded daughter got a sunburn outside playing; not in the tanning booth.

From Yahoo News:

“Patricia Krentcil, 44, told NBC’s local New York affiliate that she took her daughter with her to a local tanning salon but that the child was not exposed to the booth’s synthetic UV rays.”

” ‘I tan, she doesn’t tan,’ Krentcil said. ‘I’m in the booth, she’s in the room. That’s all there is to it.’ ”

“Krentcil, of Nutley, N.J., was arrested last week, and charged Tuesday with felony child endangerment. She was released on a $25,000 bond and is due in court Wednesday….”

“Police were alerted by school officials, who say Krentcil’s daughter showed up for school with what appeared to be a sunburn, then told classmates she ‘went tanning with Mommy.’ ”

I know this is shocking but I actually believe this woman. I think she brought her into the room because you can’t leave a 5-year-old in the lobby and the kid played around while she tanned. And the kid said I went tanning with mom which was true in a sense. I’ve had my eyebrows waxed with a baby sitting on top of my lap. I’ve had my teeth cleaned with  toddler sitting on top of my lap. You can’t leave your kids in the lobby.

Also take a look at that child on the video. She is one pale, fair child. I believe she could burn just playing outside.

What do you think? Are you buying her story or am I gullible?

OMG that woman looks like the walking dead. DISGUSTING!! There is no way I believe her. If she takes tanning that far for herself, it certainly would not surprise if she thinks tanning for her daughter is ok.

My God, that woman looks horrible! I can only imagine what her physician says to her when she goes in for a checkup.

That woman looks horrible. Like something out of a sci fi movie……..

She will NOT be around in 10 years. She will have died from melonomia, aka skin cancer.

But I don’t think she should have been arrested, and had to post a $25,000 bond.

There’s a story in todays AJC about a man who swatted a young boy on the behind, because the boy would not leave his cat alone. They were at a Vet and the man was picking up his kitty that had just had surgery. The kitty was in a carrier. They boy kept trying to pull the carrier down, and the man asked him NUMEROUS times to leave the cat alone. The kid didn’t listen. Finally, the man reached down and swatted the boy on the butt, but not hard for him to even have felt it. THe mom called the cops and pressed charges. They lead the man away in cuffs. He had to leave his kitty there.

Now, to me that screams bad parenting. The mom should have discliplined her child, or at least told him to stop what he was doing, but the man told her child NUMEROUS times to stop, and I guess she just sat there and watched. The man had to take action, and she calls the cops. PUH Lease….

He swatted my son…….

Before sunbathing Im always sure to plunge my hand into the Blue Plate Mayonnaise jar, lather up then lay back and catch some rays. Not only does it smell nice and make a Great SunBlock but I find the ladies love it!!

Doesnt matter if she looks horrible(though she does)….the question is whether or not she took the kid tanning…and I believe her, i dont think she did.

GET. A. Sitter. Don’t inconvenience others! If you cannot get a sitter, stay home.

Now me, with my red hair and grey eyes, I am cultivating the pale and freckled look. If I heard one of my adult kids went to atanning salon, I would come after them with intent to do harm!

Theresa, I am surprised your “service providers” did not sent you home!

After Mom takes us for our daily 35 minute tanning bed visit we have water blisteres. But after a good dill pickle juice rubdown we feel much better.

You may think you look good with a tan, but I can tell you that the scars from melanoma or even basal cell removal are U_G_L_Y!

My oldest child wanted to go to a tanning place, because it’s all the rage with the teenaged girls. I told her HELL NO!!! If she wants to tan, go outside…..

Here’s an update to the story — she plead not guilty today in court — when asked if she tanned excessively, she answered yes.

I used to put afro-sheen on when I went out to tan.

I think we have bigger fish to fry in the legal system than this woman and incident.

Yes, the Mom is telling the truth. The red-headed daughter would have fried in the tanning bed. I know where she is coming from…more than once I’ve had one of my two sons with me when receiving some sort of treatment — i.e., hair cut, teeth cleaning and yes, a visit to the gyn/ob. My son stood at my shoulder with the nurse between him and the doctor. Sometimes, you have to do what you have to do.

After watching the video I think the mom is telling the truth. Nevermind what the mom looks like, if you look at the child it is obvious that she has a fair complexion that burns easily. My five year old is the same way. I can put sunblock on her all day long, but after a few hours in the sun she’ll still come in with a little rosy color. I believe that she did take the child into the room with her because you aren’t going to leave a small child in a lobby alone. In the child’s mind, she probably equates going into the room with her mother with “I went tanning with Mom.” Not everyone has the luxury of hiring a sitter or finding a friend / family member to watch their kids for every little appointment. I myself have held children in my lap while getting my teeth cleaned, getting a haircut, etc. I honestly don’t believe it is that uncommon because when I’ve had to bring children with me to appointments of any kind, the service providers have always been very accommodating and acted like this was nothing new to them.

Firstly the woman’s own family contradicted her because they said the child was not in the room, but in the lobby. Also, this woman has multiple arrests..just saying. Having worked in tanning salons, I wonder if the owner got to this family first. It is really unusual, I found, for a woman’s family, including the husband, to go with her while she tanned. Also, the salon if in violation of several health laws if they allowed this woman to keep tanning when she looks like that.

@catlady I sincerely doubt that the providers have anything negative to say after I leave. I’m not the only one who has ever had to take my kids with me to those types of appointments. I have good relationships with my dentist and barber and I know they wouldn’t say anything. Even if I didn’t have good relationships with them, I suppose I choose to see the best in people. At any rate, if they ever had a problem with my bringing my children to my appointments, they should be adult enough to say something to me, not snicker about it behind my back.

Anyone, adult or minor (why do you let a 14 year old in a freakin tanning booth? Oh, I forgot, the child at that age has been ruling the family roost for 10+ years by that time, and you can’t hurt their “feelings” with a little discipline, even saying “no”.) that gets into a tanning booth, is clearly an idiot that will ultimately get Darwin’s justice and be selected for an exit from the gene pool. Hopefully, by the time Darwin wins, the “loser” won’t have left too much of a reproductive mark on successive contestants in the match game of life.

I used to tell my daughter that all the time when she’d say, “He’s copying me…”
She didn’t find it amusing :-)

I think shes telling the truth. That child would have 2nd degreee burns on her if she got in the tanning bed. It blows my mind how people think that the tanning bed is so terrible and that laying out in the sun is ok. 20 mins in the tanning bed is no different the 2 hrs in the sun!
