Watch Royal Wedding live (and be a grumpy mom) or DVR it?

I am really torn about watching the Royal Wedding live and being an exhausted, grumpy mother the whole next day. (I am now three hours behind you guys and the wedding will start at 3 a.m. here!)

I remember getting up early to watch Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s wedding, and I really treasure those memories. So I would hate to miss it, but I don’t want to be a bad mother the whole next day because I stayed up all night watching all the pre-coverage, the actual event and the after parties. (Why didn’t they get married on a Saturday??)

A friend has invited me and Lilina to work out with her Friday morning and then swim at her house and have lunch, but if I watch the wedding live then I am afraid I won’t be good  company.

Originally I had asked my husband for the day “off” so I could watch all day and then sleep the next day. However, he had to go out of town so now it’s just bleary-eyed me and the kids.

I know I can DVR it but there is just something about watching an event live. It’s like watching a football or baseball game on tape. Somehow it’s just less fun. (If you have to be at work and not near a TV, don’t worry the AJC will be live-streaming the event on your computer so you can look like you’re working! Here’s the link for it http://www.accessatlanta.com/celebrities-tv/watch-the-royal-wedding-921557.html?)

So I think I am going to make a game-time decision. I will go to bed early and then maybe wake up to watch from 2 to 4 or 2 to 5 and then try to be coherent when I get the kids up at 6:45 for school.

What is your plan? Are you going to wake up to watch it live? What time will you get up? How much of the coverage will you watch?

FYI: If you’re excited about the Royal Wedding, you’ll want to know how the AJC is going to be covering it. Here is the AJC’s coverage plan:

  • AJCBuzz live tweeting and blogging about the Royal Wedding and a local event at the W (where folks are watching the Royal Wedding).
  • Photos from the Piedmont Park event where there will be a large tent placed for folks to watch the wedding / attend bridal show.
  • Twitter module of Buzz + whatever hashtag is trending (#wedding or #royals)
  • From AP: BRITAIN-ROYAL WEDDING-RUNNING (an hours-long running account of the wedding in progress)

Royal wedding? Right now, I’m just hoping I have a ROOF over my head tomorrow, much less a TV — this storm is something else! *shudder*

I watched Charles and Diana’s wedding — it was fun, and I was very interested in it. This one — I’m mildly interested, but not convinced I’m going to get up early to watch it. TiVO, you are my friend . . . :-)

DB — I hope you are safe. I am worried about our family and friends there. Haven’t heard from my parents tonight so i hope they are OK. they don’t have a basement as mentioned in the morning blog.

I’ve just read about the storms and am worried for my family also. I am just waiting for it to be morning over there before I start calling. My mom and dad have a basement but none of my siblings do.

I am trying to contact family in Ringgold. I haven’t been able to get any answer yet. I am just hoping that they are OK and are asleep or something. From all of the reports, it is their neighborhood that was devastated.

Oh, on the wedding across the pond, let the Brits have their day, however we Americans decided over 200 years ago that we didn’t owe royalty anything, except the business end of a musket.

Get a babysitter ,to hell with the workout. If you are really lucky, the next chance you get to see an heir to the throne of England get married will be in about 30 years. I will be 80 then, I am not missing it! The last one was amazingly cool. as we were in college we just stayed up to watch it! I think it was about 3 in the morning EST.
This time I am having a slumber party and the girls and I will toast the bride and groom with champagne and have wedding cake for breakfast!…….Lets get our priorities straight. The common girl got her Prince, and you must admit he is a charming young man!
Celebrate true love!!!!! …….workout?! spare me!

Neither! I will be so glad when this media circus dies down. It’s a wedding, so what?!?! I never understood why people want to spend that much money on something that is only a few hours; what a total waste. Of course, I’m pretty sure money isn’t a problem for them! I will be blissfully sleeping til my usual time, then get up and go to work as usual. Tomorrow night when I get home from work, I will probably watch Netflix to avoid all the media reports.

I honestly don’t care. I mean, of course, I wish them the best, but I don’t know them, so I can’t really get into the whole thing! I love weddings and had a blast planning my own last year; I also love and am always excited about friends’ and family members’ weddings. I guess that I just have to have a real connection to the people getting married to really get excited about a wedding.

I may be the only 27-year-old who feels this way. I almost wish that I could get excited about it because it’s always fun to have something to look forward to! But I’ve gotten kind of frustrated when I go to watch CNN at night before bed and all there is is wedding coverage. I’ll be happy when they’re married and I can watch my normal news again. ;)

I don’t get America’s fascination with this wedding. I remember being in school and forced to watch Princess Diana’s wedding. That was in 4th grade. I didn’t care about that wedding and I frankly could care less about this one. I really don’t get it.

I can’t wait to watch it live!! I wish we here in America were still part of the United Kingdom, we wouldn’t be half as messed up as we are now. God save the Queen!! We love you William and Kate!!

My tentative plan is to set up my laptop on my bedside table and link to the wedding at 4:00 a.m. I’ll watch until I have to go to work and then finish up at the office. I have no shame. I am Royally Mad. It is a fun little diversion. It is also okay if you don’t give a flip. :-)

@Shaggy…I hope you are able to contact your Ringold family soon. I’m waiting to hear from family in Alabama and it’s not a good feeling.

On topic, I’m not really interested in the royal family nor any celebrity really so I will skip the coverage of the festivities. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with people wanting to see it; I’m just not. Last week’s episode of “The Middle” was about Frankie’s obsession with the royal wedding and it was hilarious!

I already have it qued in the DVR, on two different networks (just for different coverage). I don’t mind watching it when I get home. EVERYONE will be covering it. I love watching history being made…..I watched Charles & Diana get married, so I will watch Kate & Wills…..but on my own time…..

@Stacey – I saw the overview of “The Middle” on my DVR – I haven’t watched it yet, but cannot wait. I LOVE that show! I will DVR the wedding and watch it with my daughters over the weekend. I told them that a girl was going to become a REAL princess on Friday – not one of the Disney ones – and they are very excited. When I was about 11, I got up early and watched C/D’s wedding with my grandmother, but DVR has made my life much easier.

Huh? Why would you get up at 2 a.m. when live coverage does not begin until 4:00 a.m.? Sleep two more hours and get up at 3:55 a.m!!!!

It’s just a friggin wedding. What could possibly happen that you would not see in any other wedding?

Why are people obsessed about this? I feel embarrassed for you that you would not only admit you want to watch it, but blog that you want to watch it.

After seeing the destruction from yesterday’s storms how the hell could you even think about weddings?

Well, you can either be grouchy because you got up to watch it, or be grouchy because you didn’t. Either way, you will be grouchy, so do as you please.

As for me, I will see more than I want to on the TV afterward, I am sure (Will the Weather Channel run it? I hope not!) I enjoyed seeing a picture of Diana on the balcony before (an iconic photo), and I am sure Kate will also look lovely. Hopefully their marriage will go better than Diana’s did.

There are just too many other more important things to be thinking about, IMHO, even without the recent storms. God bless our neighbors as they try to recover.

I find it interesting that Obama released his birth certificate in the midst of a natural disaster in the South and during the ad nauseum of the royal wedding pre-game “show”. Is it because I am cranky due to lack of sleep or am I a democrat that is now having serious doubts?

I admired Princess Diana for what she stood for and sorry she was lost to the world so young after all she was the “People’s Princess” and now her son is getting married and she is not there to see him, so I will be watching what I can with pride for her.

Why should of Obama produced his birth certificate sooner? To do so is to give in to the lunatic fringe. What if every weirdo with a conspiracy demanded an answer to their unrealistic realm? At some point, he had to no doubt to shut Rush and Beck up. Those are the real narcissists.

What a load of garbage! Leave it to the British to make a big deal about an unemployed Englishman getting married. This is America where we don’t believe in all that royalty nonsense. The guy needs to get a job and move out of his grandmother’s house before he gets married.

” After all the crap about producing his birth certificate (Which he should have done in the beginning),”

He did produce it in the beginning. Back in 2008. An official certification from the state of Hawaii, embossed and signed, that’s pretty much the same as the one I got from my home county’s health department and showed to get my passport, driver’s license, etc. What’s embarrassing is that the internet nuts who forward conspiracy theories along with their new friend Donald Trump convinced enough people of their nonsense that he had to re-address the issue.

The Obama’s are miffed they didn’t get invited to the Royal Wedding … thus the timing of the “documnent” release and then jetting off on the taxpayer’s dime to see Obama’s “friend” Oprah. Why do you think Obama was smiling from big ear to big ear yesterday! :)

The Royal Wedding watchers simply want to watch and remember a time where class and grace were a part of our culture, which seem to have been lost by many.
