Momania 5-Year-Flashback: What were your favorite blogs?

It is hard to believe, but Saturday will mark the five-year anniversary of the Momania blog!

We have decided to celebrate by flashing back to our favorite columns and blogs, which we will run each day next week.

I spent the weekend picking through old blogs and columns trying to find ones worth sharing with you again. I was looking for ones that were particularly funny, crazy, or created a fuss! (You know my complaining about Michael heading off to the UGA games and leaving me at home with the kids every week will be among the finalists!) I was also looking for ones where the discussion changed my opinion on something or changed the way I was parenting.

I wanted to give you guys a chance to weigh in on which blogs or columns were your favorite and ones that you would like to see again. I suspect you’ll remember the ones that really stood out to you, but you can also search the archive on the right-hand side. We have extended the memory back to 2008. We’re trying to get the earlier ones linked up as well. (You can also search for old topics by category now too!)

So vote for your favorites. We only have eight slots to fill!

I vote for another post by Michael about his perspective!

TWG I vote for one of Michael’s to be in the top 5 too….if you run one about your hating his being gone for football then his “Why I don’t bring my wife to Georgia football games” (9/27/09) should be a counter point to it.

Not sure how you lasted 5 years.

DB and I chatted last week about the one where I posed the question of what things parents need to know. So many posters contributed such wonderful ideas and I was thinking that Jesse’s Girl’s friend, who is now expecting, should read it. It ran over the summer 2010.

FCM — I forgot about that one — that would be a very cute pairing to include both — great idea! and thanks for finding the date on it — less work for me!

TWG–one request….Nothing about Kate or Octomom etc…make them good ones that aren’t the celeb stuff.

There was one you did in 2007 or 2008 that I recall getting into a fun debat with the men. I cannot recall the topic (might have been football…LOL) and I and some others had fun pointing out that 5 min in football is equal to 5 min is all it will take me to get ready in the bathroom…..that was a good one if you can find it. (I cannot do the work on that one since I don’t remember the topic)

FCM — I’ll have to hunt for that — I’m not sure — was it sex related — I definitely think we need to re-run the 30-days of sex one — people went crazy on that one — that may have been a good man/lady debate —

there was a funny one this summer where the baseball link got confused with ours and we had all those men come on — i think it was about boob sweat — they thought they had landed in wonderland — very confused men on that one.

I agree no kate and eight — it’s ones about real family issues — funny stuff, touching stuff, stuff where we helped each other — that’s the kind of stuff I’m looking for.

I must be missing something, but how can a blog topic be memorable if the topic isn’t remembered?

I vote for the superbowl commercial blog. You know..the one where you spouses and girlfriends got all offended and naggy that the commercials portrayed women as naggy and offended easily!

Sorry T -...

…you ask the readers to “suggest” their favorites then you “suggest” YOUR favorites for inclusion, though you limit it to only 8 – what’s wrong with this scenario?

The 30-day sex was a good one. I hate to add another Michael one to the mix (it’s not like I don’t love yours T!), but one of my very faves is the one he posted with the story on when Lily was worn. I could not stop laughing at him taking a shower before taking you to the hospital!

I am amazed at the people who are on your blog posting about how much you suck. Especially the person that goes to church with you… Really? Then why are you reading and/or posting? Teresa, I think you are GREAT! Here’s to another 5 years!

Some people sure are jackasses when they are hiding behind a keyboard. Maybe they are in real life, too. I liked the blog when you wrote about donating your maternity clothes and how bittersweet it was. Keep up the good work, Theresa!

As a stay at home mom of 2 kids, I like your blog. I do not understand all the nasty comments. It’s sad that so many people spend so much time complaining. They must be sad miserable people. I read and see things all the time that just aren’t my cup of tea, but I just move on and find something that is. I say… bitter people suck! lol

T, please do not take any of these negative comments to heart. I’m not even a parent and I love this blog just to get perspective on what you all think on issues that would never come up organically in my life.

Hey how about the one where your crazy closed-minded “regulars” (they say this like it’s a good thing) bashed me for being a gay parent! That was super-fun!

What about the one where you asked if people kept the news of their new pregnancies to themselves so as not to upset friends/families that haven’t been able to conceive.

@ Valstake I cannot recall the exact topic because it was 2007-08 (or even possibly 2006….in fact now I am sure it was 2006 because I know where I was when I replied to the post….I would be happy to find it if I had access to the Fall 2006 archives…)

Moma2Alex — I had Michael’s story about the baby being born on my mental list – it was very funny! one of my all-time favorites!! I can run the football ones together so they’ll just count as one.

I was asked by my boss to remove some of the comments for bad language so I did take some down.

MJG – do you remember the approx date on the parents need to know one??? I want to search for that one

2moms…I am a “regular” and doubt I was among the bashers….two moms, two dads, one parent, 2 of each, shoot Tarzan was raised my Gorilla’s—if they made it a loving home WOOO HOOO

There are pleanty of kids from all walks of life (see Paris Hilton) who do a great job of embarassing themselves/their families no matter the structure.

@2moms -that must have been awhile back. I’m all for gay families! I’m a regular, and I would never bash you for it. I see several other regulars have also chimed in, and actually most of the regulars I see frequently on here don’t seem to have an issue with gay people or parents. If TWG has done a blog on gay parents, I think that would be a great one to re-run.

My comments were removed and the language was not bad. It was critical of this blog. Big difference. Youu can’t. Take the heat, then leave the boiler room.

Also, the lack of useful responses should indicate the lack of interest for a “best of” blog.

Just saying…….

@FCM – I’m not “ragging” on you; I know it’s sometimes hard to remember the date some story appeared. You can search the AJC archive for Momania blogs from 2006. Look at the top right of AJC.com, you’ll see a blank rectangle with the word Search in it… right next to the “Subscribe to the paper” link. Just type in 2006 and your search term(s). You’ll have to do some scanning of the results, but hopefully you’ll find the topic you’re looking for. Good luck.

TWG…the parent post was sometime over the summer. It was a time you had asked for guest bloggers.

@2moms..I know that it wasn’t me that raged on you..I have family that has children and man and woman in these families aren’t good parents at all..So no, a family does not have to be male and female to make it a happy, family..As long as you and your partner love your child and do the very best that y’all can to make him/her know that they are loved and wanted and give them the best that y’all can, then I’m proud of y’all..:~)

Valstake…you cannot read the stacks unless you pay for a subscription to the stacks. Not doing that. Tried to look by Title and see if I could find it but eventually I froze the site. LOL

TWG…The column I recalled as “recent” being your reflecting on this column turns out to be 10/22/06…and you SHOULD consider running that again with an update on where it has come since then. It also means I have been reading this blog for a long durn time!

TWG I tried again…I **think** (since I could not re-read the blog) that the one I was thinking of was your annual rant on football season :) 9/3/06 “Wives Ready to Lose your Husbands?”.

I also managed to find the first one I ever recall reading…June 25,2006 “How much does a 5 month old baby need on vacation?”…..where you admitted to your habit of packing the house up to go on a trip and Michael takes a duffle bag.

I hope that you realize that this does mean that the blog means something to us. 52 months of reading and responding. Keep it up and thanks for becoming a friend. (Same to the other “regulars”).

I have been reading since the blog topic was related to a piece ( about me) in the AJC during the summer at a hotel with ALL SORTS OF KIDS RUNNING AMOK (sp?). That blog drew a BIG comments, as I recall nearly 200 posts. It has been probably 4 years? It was July, as we were headed to the beach when I saw it in the paper first. I try to read most days but do miss some and as FCM, I have enjoyed it….most of the time. At the very least, I have learned a few things.

BTW…catlady and I are still waiting to hear about Shaggy’s experiment with the phone book.

I have also met some wonderful folks who have enriched my life:

DB, Becky, catlady, Michelle, newmom and Kathy ( who I reconnected with on the blog).

Thanks TWG!
