Will Martha Stewart win you over to the Hallmark Channel?

Ladies, we are the target audience the Hallmark Channel would die for!

The Hallmark channel has struggled to find an identity airing lots of reruns of “The Golden Girls” and “Little House on the Prairie.” But now the channel has hitched its wagon to the Martha Stewart brand and is hoping to pull in ladies just like us.

From The Miami Herald:

“Her syndicated Martha Stewart Show, which previously ran on NBC-owned TV stations, will move to Hallmark at 10 a.m., with repeats at 4 and 5 p.m. There will be an hour-long talk show called Whatever With Alexis and Jennifer at 11 a.m. starring Stewart’s daughter, Alexis Stewart, and Jennifer Koppelman Hutt and, at noon, a half-hour cooking show named Mad Hungry With Lucinda Scala Quinn, the cookbook author and executive food editor at Stewart’s media company. In the afternoon, Hallmark will run Stewart’s Everyday Food and other how-to shows from her program library including From Martha’s Kitchen, From Martha’s Garden and From Martha’s Home.”

“The Stewart and Hallmark partnership makes sense, says Brent Poer, managing director of the Los Angeles division of advertising agency MediaVest, because the tastemaker is known for quality and class and has a ready-made following. He predicted that Stewart, 69, would appeal to viewers of all ages, which should help the channel lower the median age of its audience from its current 59.”

And I have to say that I have never in my life DVR’d anything on the Hallmark Channel but on Sunday night I went through and set up a series record for “Whatever with Alexis and Jennifer” and “Everyday Food.”  (Although I was disappointed by Alexis and Jennifer’s first show. I love how dirty and mean they are on the radio and they can’t do it on TV, especially not with celebrity guests. I think they need to be more like a late-night show and be bawdy and make fun of stuff. They’re no fun kissing Paula Abdul’s butt!)

I am thinking I may set up recordings for the Lucinda Scala Quinn show and Martha’s kitchen, garden and home shows (I can fast forward through the stuff I don’t care about. However, Michael will have a heart attack when he sees his DVR space taken up with this stuff!)

I listen to Martha Stewart Radio on Sirius when I’m in my car. I call in way too frequently. And now I can relax at night to my favorite Martha Stewart shows.

Are you buying in too or is it just me? Will eight hours of Martha programming draw you to the Hallmark Channel? Will you watch it live or record it? What will you be watching?

Nope. I’ve never cared about Martha Stewart. I have absolutely NO time to delve into the kind of stuff she does (and I never have regardless of work or child status), and I hate craft projects. Of course these days I have no time to watch TV either. I don’t think I’ve done that since May. So, whenever I do find the time again to sit in front of the tube, it won’t be for Martha!

If she suddenly turns into Gerard Butler let me know. Otherwise no. Nothing against Ms. Stewart, but I prefer to take my decor tips from John Gidding or David Bromstadt. Sarah’s House too.

No way. I wouldn’t watch that if it was the only thing on TV. She is annoying. I love how even though she went to “jail” she still goes about her life like nothing ever happened. As if that would ever happen to a “real” person.

For food information I will stick with the food channel…I DVR Triple D, Chopped, Iron Chef, and the beat goes on….

TWG–do the kids know how to DVR? Everyday I find new Disney or Pokeman things in our list. I spend an hour a week deleting out that crap…I don’t mind them DVRing some of it—I understand they like the Disney sitcoms and watch them on the weekend…it is the not deleting them that gets me.

Ahhh DVR is a wonderful thing, I watch when I want too and I can skip commercials!

Martha has a radio show? MJG you call in? Wow- I’m evidently out of touch with the Domestic Queen- ha! Never been a fan of Martha and probably have never watched anything on the Hallmark Channel. I do occasionally flip through her magazine while standing in line b/c it’s better than the tabloids but seriously, who has time to decorate and cook like she does? No normal moms I know- that’s for sure.

I am a fan of Martha’s but not of her show ever since it went live or post prison. Still, I did occasionally watch her show on NBC but I don’t have cable, (I suggest everyone get rid of their cable boxes, you’ll save an average of $1200 a year) so no, I wont be watching. I understand now why Martha did it, it’s more of her products on more time slots during the day. It’ll be interesting to see how it pans out.

With reference to David Bromstadt – I don’t care if he’s gay or not. He’s very easy on the eyes and has a great sense of humor. AND extremely talented. Like I said earlier, he can come and redo my home any time!!!!! I think he would be a fun person to be around.

I don’t see gay, I don’t see color. I see people and what and how they can contribute to society.

the funny thing is I actually am not a big Martha fan — she seem uncomfortable with regular people and is very stiff on her call in show on the radio. that is actually why I like her daughter Alexis because she makes fun of her mother all the time. and tells all their dirty little secrets growing up. her mother used to edit her camp letters home and then send them back to her corrected!!!! I do love Betsy Koretnik (sp) of everyday food show and morning living — the TV show of everyday food isn’t as compelling as the radio show but still has good quick recipes. so we’ll give it a chance and see how long it stays on the dvr. I think mg is more irritated by my stuff on the dvr than the kids — I have stuff like TCM movies and cooking shows.

Not big into decorating… so I don’t watch those shows, also don’t get magazines showing me all the really expensive stuff I need to be in style. I am just into clean and even that is a struggle with my husband and daughter. Nothing against Martha Stewart it is just not me and I won’t put on a facade just to be in.

This weekend my husband was on the fox website and followed a link to celebrities without makeup. He was surprised at how fugly they were. I never got into makeup, figured it was false advertising so with me what you see is what you get, same with our house and my cooking. We live a simple life without all the show for people that don’t matter.

If I’m off work or doing some kind of mindless task, I will turn on the TV for the sole purpose of seeing a little Golden Girls. Except for the fact that only a few GG episodes get rotated around on TV, I would be perfectly happy if there was a channel of nothing but that show. Maybe I’m alone here, but I always loved GG growing up, and now I love seeing all of the innuendo I missed :o) No Martha Stewart for me!

Becky – IDK. My bet would be that VY still does live in Grant Park. I recently saw a commercial for the new Nate Berkus show (via Oprah?).

Speaking of Oprah & Martha, I just think they are just past due. Again too many channelsl. Nate Berkus was advertised to be ABC – think he should be HGTV. More of these shows would make it if there was less competition. But then again, I am from the days of the Big 3 and refuse to get addicted to TV. No time to be a couch potato or DVR.

Have watched The Martha Stewart Show on ABC. The show came after Good Morning America and before The View. Martha’s show has been replaced with the Nate Berkus show which is not bad at all. Was curious and watched the “Whatever Show” at the Hallmark Channel. Sorry to say that it was horrible! It was too painful to watch and both women lacked TV charisma. I had to give it another minute before I switched channels at 5 minutes! Sorry, maybe they should stick to radio. Whatever!

@ Photius I do like Marthaand I like that she did the time (even if she did try to fight it), took her lumps and carried on. She even poked fun at herself and has loosened up a bit. That being said, if she is on and I happen to find her then great. I don’t search out people. In my old mind her cooking shows should be Food Network and her home/decorating stuff HGTV. When I think Hallmark I think greeting cards. :)

Too Bad, I am a career person in media advertising and when I get home Martha is over. I would give anything to start watching her while I am doing my own cooking and housekeeping week nights from 7 or 8-11. I am a very strong Martha Stewart Supporter and have been greatly influenced by her methods and insistance of doing everything right. Even having a jealous ex-friend who tried to shined that spotlight on her, made me love her even more!!!!

Honestly, I didn’t even know there was a Hallmark channel, but I really don’t think turning into the Martha Stewart channel is a step in the right direction. I don’t think anyone wanted to see that much of Martha even back when she was a lot more popular. I’d rather watch pretty much anyone on HGTV (except Antonio- I am so over him) for home decorating and just about anyone on food network for cooking. There are plenty of people on both those networks doing what she does, only better.

It’s funny that someone mentioned Martha spending an entire show on how to use glitter! She really does stuff like that! The last time I watched her show was years ago while I was recovering from having my wisdom teeth removed. I must have been high as a kite on pain killers or else I could never have sat through it. Anyway, she spent the entire episode on how to make hamburgers. Not gourmet hamburgers, or anything like that, just plain old hamburgers. I would not have thought it was even possible to go into as much excruciating detail as she did making those hamburgers. It was kind of like “Good Eats”, only with just this super awkward, humorless host. And after going through all of that, the hamburgers she made looked absolutely disgusting, completely raw on the inside. She held one up (looking like she was holding a dead rat) as if she were going to take a bite, but she never did. All I could think was “this women has completely run out of ideas.”

@JOD -I love the Golden Girls! There are far worse ways to spend a sick day than watching GG reruns on tv :-)

I’ve never been fond of Martha, but my view of her actually went UP when she went to prison. Who wouldn’t do what she did? Only a moron. Many do it every day and only a few ever get caught. The person who said she did her time a lot longer than most celebs is right. Quite honestly, I think the fact that she’s an extremely successful, “ice queenish” celebrity is what got her the time. Others have only been fined for the exact same thing. The ever-greedy government thought, “Hey -we have a high profile example right here, so let’s take it to the max!”

Although like JJ I would love to go out with David and his partner for dinner and laughs. He is a hoot and a half! So is Mr. Gidding…and no I don’t believe either is just acting that way for tv.

Shoot give me the Holmes on Holmes men (Mike or his male crew members) for a date night!

We all have dropped Hallmark and anything from your sponsors because of martha stewart. My clubs and groups are joining us and we plan to blog this. I’m sure there are more out there who feel the same way. We are of the older generation who do not watch all the cop shows, the other shows with violence, vampires, devil worship ect. I love the Hallmark channel, it was a station you can go to get away from the crap on other stations. Then here comes Martha, I won’t even turn Hallmark on until she is gone, my grandmother hates her, and my grandma is 92 and doesn’t hate too many people. You know, I don’t hate Martha Stewart — I don’t think she was doing anything incredibly evil, I think she just got caught in a web of obscure SEC rules and they decided to make a high-profile example of her. When I look at all the mis-deeds on Wall Street with mortgages, mortgage fraud, etc., etc. (and I don’t notice anyone going to jail for THAT), it’s hard for me to get perturbed with Martha Stewart for acting on a hint from her broker. Jeez Louise, that’s ALL people do on Wall Street — they gossip like mad.

I respect Martha Stewart’s drive and ambition to create the marketing empire she has built, but I have absolutely no desire to emulate her. She has built an empire on making women feel guilty about their homes — “If I buy Matha Stewart, my house will be beautiful!” However, I do love her cupcake carrier . . . :-)

If I am going to spend time in front of the TV, I am glad I have the option of watching a show that is going to teach me a new skill, or inspire me to grow and prepare healthier foods, give me timely information relating to new products that are available so that I can make an educated decision when making a purchase. And when you are ready for a little sparkle in your life, why not use a lot of glitter?

Those of you who are “so over Martha”, what about your children? How many of them can hem their own slacks or skirts, make a simple alteration or design and make their own clothes? Can they grow their own vegetables or even know how to shop for fresh vegetables? Do they know what to look for when purchasing carpet or furniture? How to decide which of the dozen refrigerators will fit their needs? Talk to a contractor about home repairs or remodeling needs.

We all need the skills to get back to the basics of growing and preserving our own foods. We don’t really know what has been put into the soil our food is grown in, or what has been sprayed on it or even where it was grown!!! The news has been full of recalls for contaminated foods.

Her shows may not be as exciting as CSI, or as entertaining as some of the sitcoms, but her shows are full of the information we need to be able to provide a better life for our families.

If her shows are anything like her Sirus radio shows, we are in for a treat!! I can hardly wait to see some of the things I have been hearing about. You can believe I will be there watching!

@Lisa McNulty: Omigoodness — are you kidding me? EVERYONE who works at a level above clerk has a team working for them! A doctor has nurses, receptionists, insurance and billing clerks, PTs, etc. An attorney has law clerks, paralegals, assistants, etc. Any person who runs a department in any organization has a team working for them, doing what they do best to further the goals of the company. To sneer at her because she has a team is mind-boggling.

I’m not a fan, but let’s face it — the only reason Martha Stewart went to jail is BECAUSE she is Martha Stewart. The SEC got a lot of mileage from sending her to jail for listening to a stock tip. You have Wall Street vultures who play in MILLIONS of dollars based on stock tips, and the SEC got in a tizzy over her lousy $45,000? Those vultures were laying back on private islands in the Mediterranean while she she did her time gracefully in jail.

I never liked Martha and now that she is back I will never watch Halmark while she is on. I loved the old shows you had on and now to replace them with a woman that is a criminal is a crime. Please put the old shows back on and get rid of that woman.

I lost this channel because Hallmark raised their prices with AT & T. I think this was because of Martha Stewart – doesn’t she have enough money now?? She lost me as a fan and I will not subscribe to the Hallmark channel.

I loved the Hallmark Channel until Martha Stewart, She is boring, can’t stand to hear her talk, I thought this was a family channel, not one that has a known felon that has been in prison, I will no longer watch this channel as long as she is on it. Please bring back the shows that on had on there, Little House, I love Lucy the good shows.

I’m quite disappointed that Hallmark has surrendered so many daytime hours to Martha Stewart. It’s a complete overdose. Miss your past varietal programming, even if re-runs. Will most likely not continue being a faithful Hallmark viewer until you possibly reconsider your decisions and make some adjustments.

why did Martha go to hallmark?

was her syndicated show losing ratings or did hallmark offer her more money?

i can’t imagine Martha making more money on hallmark over having a nationally syndicated show

Martha’s show has become such an “infomercial” for all of her and her sponsors’ products that it no longer really feels like it’s offering me anything new. Aslo, when she was on NBC, I was disappointed that the show was not in high def. Now, on the Hallmark channel, the show looks absolutely blurry to me. I think 8 hours of Martha and her minions is just too much. So, NO, I will not be watching and I took her show off my DVR’s list of scheduled recordings. See you . . .

I think Martha and her show have only gotten better and better. She is more relaxed and fun. I love her show and always DVR it. Her website is also fantastic – anything you want to know she has covered at one time or another. Very thorough and first quality. I love that Martha’s programming is on so much more by moving to Hallmark. She’ll probably buy the station at some point.

I use to be a fan of the Hallmark Channel. They used to have good programming, but now they have decided to flood the channel, with this woman called Martha Stewart, a person I would not invite into my home if she knocked on my door, so why would I invite her in via Television. Then you put her daughter on, another worthless program. I am just one person, so I know I wont break your network by not watching this garbage, but now you know how I feel.

I do not like the Hallmark schedule anymore. Hearing Martha Stewart’s voice, telling us how to fold our “underthings” in acid paper is enough to make anyone want to puke. I had to actually LOOK at the television to see if she was actually folding her camisole with acid paper!!!!!!! Give me a break, please take this crap off and put back LITTLE HOUSE…When did the Hallmark Channel stop being for family viewing????

Wow! Some of you folks are really angry over television programming. Like her or not, she is a good teacher of “housekeeping”. I know for a fact there are plenty of people that could benefit from her knowledge. Yes she did break the law but she did serve her sentence. Before you throw labels around like “criminal” I want you to take a look in the mirror and ask “am I without fault”. As I do with everyone, I wish her and the Hallmark channel the best.

The hallmark channel has made a gigantic mistake in having Martha Stewart all day, I hope it does not last all day, I could tolerate maybe 1 hour. I figured it was just a marathon thing since it is new to Hallmark. That is why we have Netflix to stream so when all the stations quit listening to the customer we still have something to watch

I will not watch her for 1 hour let alone all day. Bring back Lucy and Little House. I remember the cruel way she treated Rachael Ray when she was trying to learn to bake a cake.on her show. And the mean things she said on camera about Rachael. Rachael was a true lady about it. so for that I will stick to ABC and watch Rachael definintly not Martha. Do not care for her at all. Rachael makes it fun to watch.

I am in total agreement with everybody that wants Martha Stewart off! I e-mailed my feelings to http://www.hallmarkchannel.com. There are not that many channels out there you can watch that doesn’t have trash! Hallmark is one of the very few left! WE HAVE TO GET HER OFF! Thank you!

I don’t dislike Martha because of her crime, which she “paid for.” I dislike her because she is a snob, but still, as a crafter I have overlooked that to watch some of her shows over the years….but a whole day of her!? EVERYDAY!? I don’t think so. And I don’t just sit and watch television. I work while the Hallmark channel is on, it was like a family to me. Martha is not family…she is someone who clearly thinks she is better than everyone else. I no longer watch Hallmark and will not. As far as I’m concerned, it’s THE MARTHA STEWART CHANNEL and no longer THE HALLMARK CHANNEL….very sad.

Martha Stewart is changing the name of The Hallmark Channel to “HOME” — lol. I really wish we’d get the regular, wholesome, family shows back. Martha is a smart, talented woman and I’m sure lovely to dine with. I’d much rather “dine” with the Ingalls family on Little House. :)

Martha Stewart and Hallmark are as American as apple pie. With Martha, America now has a fabulous channel with quality televison programming that showcases the American way of life. Anyone who no longer watches the Hallmark channel obviously has no esteem for the American way of life and is at heart un-American.

The reruns on the Hallmark channel are still available but just showing at different times from before. It seems anyone who can watch reruns day-in and day-out must be braindead. For Hallmark viewers who are afflicted with a passionate addiction to reruns, the excellent programming of Martha Stewart offers an alternative to avoid the early onset of dimentia.

Martha committed no “crime” – her grossly incompetent legal representation was truly the “crime” that she “paid for.” Contrary to the perjuring stealth juror who crowed “victory for the little guys,” no evidence existed of any wrongdoing by Martha. The big-time bogus charge (10 years jail, $2 million fine) was thrown out in court because it was completely trumped-up, just like all the other bogus charges. Martha was targeted for destruction by Bush and his goons for political gain, and the criminal justice system was abused and misused on her. In magnificient style, she has triumphed over that evil, and she has moved on with her life in stunning fashion. Others should do likewise and cease the lewd conduct of cheap-shot, pot-shot comments.

Martha did nothing wrong…the facts: Of almost 8,000,000 ImClone shares traded, she sold a puny 3,928 shares in a sale that has been perfectly legal for over 70 years. Only a mere two months earlier Martha made the decision to SELL ALL of her ImClone stock in a tender offer from Bristol-Myers based on sound investment management principles. That’s the fundamental truth of her case that vanished. Not one single word spoken by her or any Bush goon was recorded in a transcript or in sworn testimony. In our democracy, she had every right to sell the stock at a time of her choosing; she owed nobody any explanation for the sale, and why she sold the stock was nobody’s business, including the Bush goons. So anyone who is not brainwashed by media lies will see clearly she was framed and railroaded on bogus charges.

Not knowing Martha personally and calling her all kinds of names – “snob” – “she clearly thinks she is better than everyone else,” etc. – is on the mystifying, loony side. On the Martha Show, on the Martha Blog and in her tweets, the Martha I see is funny, friendly, interesting, informative, and caring about the environment and the world we live in.

The change to Martha Stewart should kill the Hallmark Channel! Martha is perfectly awful. She is out of touch with the real world now. Food Network and House and Garden have lively shows, llively people, real ideas, for real people. Almost no one would care about Martha anymore because she is boring and needs to redo herself not our lives! Take care of your hair, martha. It has been awful for years. No, I will never watch Hallmark during the day; and by the way what is wrong with Golden Girls. Fantastic show AFTER ALL THESE YEARS! Can’t say that for Martha Stewart. And Alexis is awful too. Who in the world thought women of America would ever watch this? They must live in a cave. With all the choices available today? You really thought anyone would watch?

No, I will not watch Martha! She is awful. She is boring. She needs to realize that there are lively people on other networks that are real! She may not like Rachael Ray or any of the food network girls, but they are real and they are watched! Martha will kill Hallmark Channel as we know it. And say, what is wrong with Golden Girls, Martha! They can act and entertain! Hooray for Betty White! And what is wrong, Hallmark Channel, with an audience that is 59 years of age! We have money too! No, I will not watch. FS

I am thrilled that Martha will be moving to the Hallmark channel along with her older shows! I have read a lot of these comments and see how a lot of people “don’t care” for her. Personally I do not think they realize the influence that Martha has brought to America. Look around at Christmas, the trees that are decorated to the nines with coordinated colors? Don’t you know that Martha Stewart designed color schemes and hand picked ornaments for her shows and magazines that drew attention to malls and event planners and eventually trickled down to the knockoffs that you buy at The Dollar Tree and 99 cent store? The ones that end up on your trees at home? Martha Stewart is a legend and a genius in her own field and should be respected as so. Have a great day! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1mC6yniM_eI
