Spas offer big deals around Atlanta

It’s kind of like restaurant week but in a spa.

From March 8 to 14, spas around metro Atlanta are offering a week of special services for only $50.

The catch is you have to give up your email address to find out which spas are offering what services but for me that’s worth it. This is where you look to find the deals.

I looked at the list near me and here are some of different services being offered by spas you’ve actually heard of:

Botox for $50 – I wouldn’t do this but that seems cheap

Laser hair removal for $50

Massages

Facials

Microdermabrasion

Chemical peels

Joint mani and pedi

There were 24 spas to choose from near my zip code.

The guy that pitched this had my number. He wrote something like: You look like a hardworking mom who could use some time to herself. Take a break and be treated well.

Yes, yes I am!  I am thinking I may make an appointment for a massage while the baby is in mother’s morning out next week. That would be lovely! (It’s been probably two years since my last massage.)

Do you like to partake in the spa services? Are you still doing it in the economy? Is $50 cheap enough to get you in? What would you like to have done?

I’ve never been to a spa — somehow, the idea of some stranger pummeling on my body always gave me the creeps :-) Plus, I’ve got a great place that does manicures and pedicures for far less than $50.

But if it sounds relaxing to you — then enjoy it!

I don’t want anyone touching me with a laser that only charges $50. Sounds bad to me. But I’d not give up my email address for the deal either. The reason it’s probably so cheap is that they are going to sell your email address to a marketing company.

these are reputable spas on the list — Natural Body and places like that — I think they are just going to email you deals and stuff later is my guess.

Love going to the spa, but I wouldn’t give out my email address to get any of these good deals..Like DB, I can already get a great mani/medi for a lot less than $50.00..I get a massage weekly from my little one..We do them as part of our girls time each week..

Laser hair removal will take 6-8 treatments spaced 6-8 weeks apart to achieve a full benefit and it’s not for everyone.

I am a huge fan of massages (yes, the legitimate ones, the others are creepy.)! As a runner for the last 18 years, they are invaluable. In this economy, though, I don’t get them as often as I did when I was single, no kid. But that’s the way life works. Enjoy ‘em if you got ‘em.

This is actually a great topic for me. I learned to give massages and gave them extensively to my ex, esp when preggos and travelling. Reciprocity was well worth it. Tell your S.O. how much $ you can save in the long run by BOTH of you learning the basics, and how much touch time it gives you together without the pressure of it always leading to other activities.

My wife regularly goes to Atlanta School of Massage. It’s not frilly like a spa, but comfortable enough. I’ve been a couple of times and it was well worth it. The students performed the massage and there was an instructor that came in and out of the room to monitor. I’d have to ask my wife how much it was for an hour, but I do know she wouldn’t spend $50 for as often as she goes. Very, very relaxing.

I am with DB and Becky on this one. I do not do massages. I cannot even sit in the massage chair when I get my mani/pedi or my back hurts when I leave. I visit my Chiro regularly and leave with a sore back, that feels better in a day or two. I swear by her, as my knee was a MESS last year and it is just fine now! Did not have to have surgery.

Ya’ll have fun on this one and the next topic. I rarely rent movies but if you were talking about Border’s or Barnes and Noble, I might perk up. Hugs…I am in Iowa.

I would NOT do any of these options, except mani & pedi and I can’t stand the massaging chairs either. Actually a pedicure is a treat to me and I get one about every other month. I may get a manicure once or twice a year, but I’m really hard on my hands, and working in a warehouse is not conducive to a manicure. But every so often it’s a nice treat.

I refuse to get a “chemical Peel”, that just sounds too scary, and my skin is nice enough without having to peel layers off with chemicals. I drink a TON of water, and I believe it has keep my skin in such good condition. I’m trying to live chemical fee……

Botox OH HELL NO!!!! I don’t want any poison injected into my face. No need, I decided a long time ago to age naturally. Again, tons of water has done wonders for my skin.

Massages – never had one…….too expensive.

I’m just too natural for any of these “fads”…….I think women sometimes look fake. Fake tans, fake nails, fake hair color, now the rage is fake eyelashes. I like what nature gave me and I’m perfectly comfortable in my body. That’s all I need……

Thanks Theresa! I have an email account that I specifically use for business and services like this one. You sold me with saying Natural Body was on the list. It’s been my favorite for 16 years! I would go insane without spa services. For those looking for a great deal -try JeJu Korean Spa of Wellbeing across from Gwinnett Place. UNBELIEVABLE and $25 -gorgeous and spotless -8 or so special sauna rooms and huts (amazingly gorgeous mosaiced w/rocks and gemstones), extra services (but cheap) like massage, scrubs, foot massage(I had the best foot massage of my life there -I literally felt like I had melted into the chair( -mani and pedi upstairs -you don’t even have to take anything -they supply you with shorts and a t-shirt to wear. One word -the whirpools and hot tub areas are gender specific and you must be nude to enter them. They also have a coed lap pool. They even have SLEEPING ROOMS -little cubbies off of each gender’s dressing room. You can spend 24 hours there!

Natural Body is still the best spa I’ve found in Atlanta, but if you love pedicures, try Jazmin Spa (particularly the Kirkwood location) for their 1 hour peppermint spa pedicure. They last forever and you get an amazing leg and foot massage -all for $29!

@MJG..I enjoy the massage I get from my 7 year old as much or more than one I might pay $50 or more for..You can’t pay for that or her asking me after she’s done, “Nanny, does that make you feel better?”

@JJ..My boss is so vain that she does the chemical peels fairly regular..She came in one Mon. after having one on Fri., she was scary looking for a week..Of course this is a woman that had a face lift at 49..She’s a whopping 4′ 9″ and weighs 103 lbs soaking wet..

Botox for $50 – I am with JJ on this one. My belief is plastic surgery is okay once or twice on the body (breast implants & tummy tucks) but stay FAR AWAY from face injections.

Laser hair removal for $50 – Like SuwanneeMommy mentioned it can take anywhere from 6-8 times for the removal to fully work. You might want to check what the regular price would be before you embark on that one.

Massages – $50 for an hour isn’t bad. BUT, I do know that Massage Envy (it is a franchise so there may be one near you) has a 1st time hour massage for $30 bucks. No gimmicks.

Facials – DEFINITELY work it here. Facials usually run about $100 bucks, I usually get 1 or 2 a year, but with the economy lately, I haven’t been able to. Now for $50 bucks though.. I am there! And trust me, your skin will feel great and your face will tighten up. It’s far better than injecting botox in your face.

Microdermabrasion – $50 is another good price here. However, microdermabrasion should really only be used if you have severe acne or scars from acne. It can be a little too harsh on normal skin
Chemical peels – Again $50 is cheap. But it kind of goes with the reason for having microdermabrasion but not as harsh. It may be good if you have lots of dead skin on your face.

Joint mani and pedi – I will agree with Becky on this one. $50 is WAY too much. I get a full pedi and solar nail fill in for $54. A pedi should only be around $20 and most of the time a combo will run you about $32 bucks.

The only things I do keep up with even in these times are my feet and nails. My hands are the 1st thing everyone sees. Now my toes are a little different. I only go about once a month in the winter due to my ingrown toenails that have to be cutout. In the summer, I get my toes done every 2-3 weeks.

Massage is one of those things that you have to go to the same person for a couple of times before you fully relax enough to get the full benefit of the massage. I talked to the guy I went to for a few years about it once. You have to find someone that you really like. I’ve been to a few who were really chatty during the massage. I’m not there to talk, I’m there to relax. So I ended up with this guy who was really good. Then [sniff] he moved away. Then I moved and that was the end of that. I haven’t had a massage in years.

Wayne

I have to laugh a bit. We were talking one day here at work; there was a couple of us guys and one girl. A nice looking girl walked by and all us guys pretty much ogled her as she walked by. She didn’t know it though – we didn’t get busted. But, the girl we were talking to told us to cut it out. And that we should control ourselves. We all, at one time, pretty much said the same thing ” we can’t control ourselves!”. She pretty much felt that that wasn’t the case. Well, we’re guys, we’re hardwired to look at anything that moves, and to have impure thoughts about the fairer sex. It just is.

Needless to say, she still feels that way, and we don’t agree. So, we joke about it.

I’ve got a Medical Spending account through my employer and a script from my doctor for massages for lower back pain. Basically, I get a massage and get reimbursed for it. They’re not free, but they are tax free massages and I don’t really feel the financial pinch because I’m used it a set amount just being deducted from my check anyhow.

It’s funny, I told my doc I’d like the script and she asked me where I liked to get my massages for my pain and I told her “Mandalay Bay”. She said, “i’ll just write you a generic one”!

@Michelle….somewhere along the line the term “yard ape” was thrown by me and I realized it wasn’t a term of endearment!

@Wayne….yeah, the problem with public accounting is that April 15 is a HOAX….for really busy firms you get no breaks between extensions, June 30 fiscal year ends, audits, and then the October 15 final expiration of deadlines for extensions. I found the only difference between the traditional ‘tax season’ for me was that instead of working 70 hours a week from January through April 15 was that I got to “take a break” for the rest of the year and work 55 hour weeks. And that was EXPECTED at my firm. You had to do it because if you didn’t there was someone else who would and that was the person who was moving up the ranks….and deservedly so because they put in the most work. Now they were stereo typical accounting geeks with no lives outside the debits and credits and billings…personally that got in the way of my drinking to excess and having fun.

Had to laugh at Wayne...

I got into a discussion with a water aerobic instructer once about that issue – she had been to some kind of seminar, and then read a book by the seminar leader, about how men and women are wired differently. I asked her for an illustration – she said that the instructor said to take a guy going into Home Depot – he can see a good looking woman on his way in and he will think about her the entire time he is in the store.

I told her the instrutor was absolutely wrong – she asked me how so – I told her, that, first, at Home Depot there ain’t no way a man will think about a woman in that store. And secondly, the woman does not have to be good looking….

@Andrea, FCM, JJ, Becky, JATL, A, Jesse’s Girl, Cammi317, Jeff, and Yuki

I noticed back on June 19th of last year you guys ALL listed your top 5 married crush’s…I bet you had NO idea that you were all unhappily married and half a woman or man….shame on you for admiring and having a crush on anyone other than your significant other!

I mean, that’s only if you subscribe to “and here we thought’s” vitriol!

Besides, just because you’re on a diet, that doesn’t mean that you can’t look at the menu…

Spa Sydell's gift certificates expire in just one year

Spa Sydell’s gift certificates are worthless after a year. I hate to think of all the money hardworking men have wasted on these certificates, thinking that they were buying their wives or girlfriends something nice. Big problem if you are a busy woman and can’t use your certificate within a year. Then you have to pay 20 percent of its value if you want to use it. And if it’s later than a year? Forget it! Spa Sydell tells you to make a paper airplane out of it, cause they sure aren’t going to do anything to help you. That’s money down the drain! What a ripoff!
