Spas offer big deals around Atlanta

It’s kind of like restaurant week but in a spa.

From March 8 to 14, spas around metro Atlanta are offering a week of special services for only $50.

The catch is you have to give up your email address to find out which spas are offering what services but for me that’s worth it. This is where you look to find the deals.

I looked at the list near me and here are some of different services being offered by spas you’ve actually heard of:

Botox for $50 – I wouldn’t do this but that seems cheap

Laser hair removal for $50

Massages

Facials

Microdermabrasion

Chemical peels

Joint mani and pedi

There were 24 spas to choose from near my zip code.

The guy that pitched this had my number. He wrote something like: You look like a hardworking mom who could use some time to herself. Take a break and be treated well.

Yes, yes I am!  I am thinking I may make an appointment for a massage while the baby is in mother’s morning out next week. That would be lovely! (It’s been probably two years since my last massage.)

Do you like to partake in the spa services? Are you still doing it in the economy? Is $50 cheap enough to get you in? What would you like to have done?

I’ve had PLENTY of massages all over atlanta, mexico, florida, etc.. and I absolutely love them when you get the right place/person!! Recently I experienced the BEST MASSAGE EVER at The Buckhead Massage Co.. on Piedmont Rd. in ATL… I’m here to tell you, if you’ve never had a massage, this is the place to start!! Richard is awesome, I will ask for him everytime! My girlfriend that I took along had another therapist who she said was equally as good. I thought the price was right, and they are offering specials for 1st timers… I highly recommend The Buckhead Massage Co..

Massage is one of those things that you have to go to the same person for a couple of times before you fully relax enough to get the full benefit of the massage. I talked to the guy I went to for a few years about it once. You have to find someone that you really like. I’ve been to a few who were really chatty during the massage. I’m not there to talk, I’m there to relax. So I ended up with this guy who was really good. Then [sniff] he moved away. Then I moved and that was the end of that. I haven’t had a massage in years.

I have to laugh a bit. We were talking one day here at work; there was a couple of us guys and one girl. A nice looking girl walked by and all us guys pretty much ogled her as she walked by. She didn’t know it though – we didn’t get busted. But, the girl we were talking to told us to cut it out. And that we should control ourselves. We all, at one time, pretty much said the same thing ” we can’t control ourselves!”. She pretty much felt that that wasn’t the case. Well, we’re guys, we’re hardwired to look at anything that moves, and to have impure thoughts about the fairer sex. It just is.

Needless to say, she still feels that way, and we don’t agree. So, we joke about it.

I’ve got a Medical Spending account through my employer and a script from my doctor for massages for lower back pain. Basically, I get a massage and get reimbursed for it. They’re not free, but they are tax free massages and I don’t really feel the financial pinch because I’m used it a set amount just being deducted from my check anyhow.

It’s funny, I told my doc I’d like the script and she asked me where I liked to get my massages for my pain and I told her “Mandalay Bay”. She said, “i’ll just write you a generic one”!

Another worthless Spa Sydell certificate

March 5th, 2010

I am also stuck with a worthless Spa Sydell gift certificate. I don’t understand how Spa Sydell can refuse to honor certificates that have been paid for. If they want to charge a fee because the rates have gone up since the certificate was purchased, that makes sense.

Spa Sydell, are you listening? Your big burgundy gift certificates are worthless! No wonder that company has been having financial problems. Such a rip-off!

Yep, the entertainment factor is WAY up there today! I’m definitely getting a good giggle! When I left my prior job, I went to lunch with a couple of ladies and we got onto the topic of manscaping. One of the gals had never heard of it! She laughed so hard! She couldnt’ wait to get home and mention it to her hubby!

@Tiger: I was wondering how you could spend so much time on here during tax season. Most accountants I know are tearing their hair out now. And planning their vacations for after April 15th.

OMG: just reminded me of a story about two young ladies I worked with. We went out after work one night to a party for a coworker that was leaving. The three of us decided to get something to eat so we went to the local pancake house and we’re just chatting. For some reason we started talking about underwear – I’ve no clue why. One of the ladies tells me that she just got her first wax, and it was, oh rats, she says, I can’t remember the name – is it a tomahawk? I cracked up. I said do you mean a mohawk? She shouted ‘yes!’. Yeah, they were quite inebriated.

@Michelle….somewhere along the line the term “yard ape” was thrown by me and I realized it wasn’t a term of endearment!

@Wayne….yeah, the problem with public accounting is that April 15 is a HOAX….for really busy firms you get no breaks between extensions, June 30 fiscal year ends, audits, and then the October 15 final expiration of deadlines for extensions. I found the only difference between the traditional ‘tax season’ for me was that instead of working 70 hours a week from January through April 15 was that I got to “take a break” for the rest of the year and work 55 hour weeks. And that was EXPECTED at my firm. You had to do it because if you didn’t there was someone else who would and that was the person who was moving up the ranks….and deservedly so because they put in the most work. Now they were stereo typical accounting geeks with no lives outside the debits and credits and billings…personally that got in the way of my drinking to excess and having fun.

Had to laugh at Wayne...

…and the comment about how men are “wired”. I got into a discussion with a water aerobic instructer once about that issue – she had been to some kind of seminar, and then read a book by the seminar leader, about how men and women are wired differently. I asked her for an illustration – she said that the instructor said to take a guy going into Home Depot – he can see a good looking woman on his way in and he will think about her the entire time he is in the store.

I told her the instrutor was absolutely wrong – she asked me how so – I told her, that, first, at Home Depot there ain’t no way a man will think about a woman in that store. And secondly, the woman does not have to be good looking….

Tiger, you may need to...

March 5th, 2010
3:31 pm

…turn in your “man card” with that comment…and you missed the point, it was the second reason, the woman does not have to be good looking for a man to keep thinking about her (if I have to explain it it ain’t funny….)

Don't get your mom a Spa Sydell certificate!

March 5th, 2010

This is what Spa Sydell’s website says about gift certificates:

Q: If my gift certificate expired, can I still use it?
A: After one year, within 60 days of expiration, you may renew your gift certificate by paying 20% of the value of the certificate.

DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY!

For all of you with worthless Spa Sydell gift cards -be glad! I know someone wasted money on them, but the worst spa experience I’ve ever had was at Spa Sydell in Dunwoody -bright lights, loud -you could hear other customers talking while having your service -and the walls were really dingey and dirty. I heard they filed bankruptcy and I’m not surprised with all the other great spas in town.

I got that part….I just focused on the “at Home Depot there ain’t no way a man will think about a woman in that store”…..and if admiring women takes second fiddle to checking out the latest model lawnmower or power tool you won’t have to pry my “man card” from my cold, dead hands because that’s a club I don’t relate to anyhow! :-)

@and here we thought…wow, what a vicious shot! very happily married for 16 years. Big difference between admiring a woman’s physical appearance and chasing her. Funny, most people I know who have an inkling about the makings of a good relationship recognize the difference between the two. kind of like the way I don’t mind it when my wife ogles over Christian Bale and Matt Damon.

Spa Sydell's gift certificates expire in just one year

March 5th, 2010
10:59 pm

Spa Sydell’s gift certificates are worthless after a year. I hate to think of all the money hardworking men have wasted on these certificates, thinking that they were buying their wives or girlfriends something nice. Big problem if you are a busy woman and can’t use your certificate within a year. Then you have to pay 20 percent of its value if you want to use it. And if it’s later than a year? Forget it! Spa Sydell tells you to make a paper airplane out of it, cause they sure aren’t going to do anything to help you. That’s money down the drain! What a ripoff!
