Stop tempting me Girl Scout Cookies!

cookies

Darn you Girl Scout Cookies! Why do you mock me? Why do you tempt me every time I walk past the dining room? You are so luscious and sweet, and I want to eat you all. But instead I am sentenced to pack you up in individual bags and deliver you to your new owners — who will then gobble you with delight! I will try to be strong you 166 boxes — minus the three that we’ve already eaten since we picked you up yesterday at 3 p.m.!

Do you have Girl Scout Cookies coming to your house? Are you packing them up for delivery? How fast do you eat them? How do you stop yourself with that many boxes sitting around?!!

I didn’t order any this year. I still have a box of Thin Mints in our freezer from last year. I did see three groups of Girl Scouts selling cookies at one shopping center yesterday (three different store fronts). I didn’t feel too much guilt shaking my head “no” since I had my hands full carrying a toddler. That was my “out” last year, too – hands are too full to stop and buy any boxes.

When I do get cookies, I throw them in the freezer. Thin Mints may not take long to thaw, but they are too hard to be eaten straight from the freezer – so it removes the easy access element.

We actually all do it together — both big kids are very good at organizing and pulling the orders — Dad is not so good because he is color blind!! The order sheet is color coded and I swear he messed up several of the orders last year!! — I was going to start writing out waht each person owed so we can staple it to the bag – but I’m just sitting here looking at these cookies!!!! they’ll all help when they get home from school but in the meantime l …

I never order or eat them (but then I rarely eat sweets.) Cookies are simply wasted calories. Anyway, GS cookies are overpriced, just like any fundraising product. I don’t mind fundraisers, but I don’t want the product (whatever it is)… just the tax deduction.

I agree with Jeff….those two are my favorites as well. We didn’t have anyone come by this year. Probably a good thing. I would eat them fast. All of them sitting on your table like that….yikes. They would be calling my name. Stay strong!

I buy only 1 box a year, always Tagalongs (my fave). They don’t last long but with only one box it’s not so bad. I try not to buy sweet stuff much cause I don’t have much willpower to resist once it’s in the house.

I bought a box of peanut butter and thin mints. I actually still have some from last year, but I like to buy stuff from the kids if they are brave enough to come up to the door! I really appreciate the kids taking the initiative!

This is the first year in 12 years I haven’t been overseeing Girl Scout cookie sales — odd! My daughter called me from college and told me that her boss’s daughter is a Brownie and was selling, and wondered if we wanted any. We did! :-)

For those who think that they are overpriced — yeah, they are. And it’s shocking how little of that money actually goes to the troop. Most of the proceeds to go the Council, and cookie sales and Annual Fund donations are basically what keeps the Council operating and serving over 45,000 girls and almost 10,000 adults, including the wonderful camps and programming, as well as adult training.

For those of you watching your weight, most troops were collecting donations that could be sent to soldiers overseas, or given to the V.A. Hospital, or even local fire departments, etc. So if you didn’t want to be tempted but wanted to help, that was a good way to do it (and still can, at booth sales you’ll see).

I LOVE Girl Scout Cookies. Last year we got a bunch and put them in the freezer until after our wedding (I wanted that dress to look GOOD!). THis year since I am pregnant, I can’t wait to get them and not feel bad about enjoying them since I have not gained much pregnancy weight.

We did not order many boxes this year. My step daughter told us nothing about them and never brought an order form. I think her mom did all of her sales, which my husband and I do not agree with. We finally did add 3 boxes to her order once last call went out and used her not asking us about it as a learning experience on responsibility and accountability. Theresa, I think it is great that the whole family puts the orders together.

I know I am not the only one to feel this way but I guess I will be the one to say it. I will NOT go shopping during Walmart / Publix / etc when the tables are set up and you are being attacked by the cookie monsters that stand out there…If I did not buy the cookies on the list from the parents that very nonchalantly lay it on my desk at work… I am not going to buy them every weekend while you stand outside the stores.

@Theresa…”How do you stop yourself with that many boxes sitting around?!!”

1. Only eat them in front of a mirror naked (now granted some of the fancier places frown on this)

2. Keep a list of all the blogs topics you’ve posted here how unhappy you are with your weight.

When I’m dieting (which is always to keep the weight off), I keep a picture handy me at the beach several years ago at my WORST and when that plate of nachos is on the table or chips and salsa, I look at the plate, then the picture. It takes about 3 glances and we have a winner. It’s a better appetite suppressor than any pill.

I doubt PETA would be opposed to the Python hunts. There are apparently 1000s of them messing up the ecosystem down there.

I wish we could hunt the people who import and buy these things in the first place.

I’m pregnant and my neighborhood Girl Scout and her wonderful Mother delivered mine on Friday night!
Theresa, I don’t know how you do it. I would eat them all.

BTW – I think someone else pointed this out, but you can donate the cookies. My Girl Scout’s troop is giving their donated cookies to a Domestic Violence center for women and children in Lawrenceville. A lot of the girls mail the cookies to troops. Ask your troop when you see them. If you like the cause, donate a box.
Girl Scouts are a wonderful organization. Worth every penny and calorie in my opinion. :)

BTW – I hate the snake picture too! But, I’m all for shooting them if I don’t have to see it in my backyard.

I love the Samoas (sp?) thin mints and peanut butter. I stopped buying from the girls years ago because my husband is a SUCKER for any darling child selling things.

I used to order my share ( 4-6 boxes) and then another 10 boxes would appear…can we say overboard! So, I am sure we will be getting some but I have no idea who, what, where and when. Out of my control and I will enjoy whatever shows up:).

Busy week for me but ya’ll have fun…I will be on the plane!

Hi, Tiger. I agree that we do need groups like PETA around to remind some of the other bipeds on the planet that they need to be humane. Julia also gets a thumbs up from me on the call that they are too extreme sometimes. I have been a vegetarian (okay, if it weren’t for Vermont cheddar I would be vegan) for decades now, but I do not judge others for what they eat of wear.

Cookies was the topic, but my earlier post never made it on the board, but here is a summary. I do not eat them. I am disturbed by the women in my office who are girl scouts — well, I guess their daughters are and the moms just do all the work. Whatever. I hate having to modify my schedule to avoid grocery shopping during the prime times to get attacked…and I do not appreciate the dirty looks from the hovering moms when I do go to the store in daylight and politely decline to purchase GS cookies.

JJ I am all for hunting snakes. The less there are of them the better. My eldest saw a Moccason at camp last year. Mr. Jim pulled it out of the boys cabin (where it was curled up) and put it in a tree. They showed a picture of it in the slide show at church…you should have heard the congrgation GASP and fidget!! My eldest decided they don’t bother her. When I take her to camp I am on high alert for those suckers, and no I am not going to be a couselor there. She is told clearly to be on alert too (moccason and rattler and coperheads are big in Perry GA). The kids are not allowed to wander too far and she said they are shown how to check the cabins/bunks for them. ME? I would be up all night in a well lit area (like the Holiday Inn).

Becky — nothing wrong with a snake if it is a DEAD one.

Snakes are the ONLY thing that keep my from buying lakefront property.

Spiders don’t really bother me, unless they jump out at me and scare me. Then my first reaction is to kill them. I had on live in my cabinet for a about three weeks. We had a talk and I told her as long as she stays on her side of the cabinet (under) we would be just fine. One day she jumped out at me, and well, that was it. She broke our agreement. I hope PETA doesn’t come after me…..
