I have a crush on my daughter’s orthodontist!

We’ve talked before about our celebrity crushes – obviously people we’re very unlikely to meet but we still think are hot.

Today I thought it would be fun (since it is Fun Friday!) to talk about people in our everyday lives that we have little crushes on.  For example, I think Rose’s orthodontist is very cute, and I actually try to have make-up on whenever I have to take her in. He’s very friendly and obviously smart. But overall he’s just awfully cute.

I certainly don’t mind that all my kids will need their teeth fixed! (Keep sucking that thumb Lilina!)

I also had a crush on the heart surgeon that operated on my brother this summer. My sister-in-law and I joked about it all summer long. I’d call to check in when I was heading to the hospital and my sister-in-law would tease “You just missed Dr. X. He just made his rounds.” I’d curse and then she’d giggle. We were fascinated by his stubble. This guy works a lot of crazy hours. All of the nurses at the hospital were hot for him too and said he is just the nicest man ever! Too bad his wife thinks so too!

Overall, he did brighten our hospital experience. He was something to look forward to at a very bad time.

I had already planned to write about innocent crushes in our everyday lives when I saw ABC’s “Modern Family” on Wednesday. (If you haven’t seen this show you need to watch it. It is the best new show on TV.) One of the dads on the show was having gall bladder stones (or kidney stones) and he finally agreed to let his wife call the fire department to take him to the hospital. His wife had a slight ulterior motive: apparently the entire fire department is hot and everyone in the town knows it.

As soon as their kid dials 911, the wife was off getting dressed while the husband was groaning on their bed. She comes out in tight jeans, low cut top and high heels. The dad stops his groaning to note that she’s put on lipstick and fixed her hair. And he totally knew why.

(The gay couple on the show trying to Ferberize their new adopted daughter with hilarious results is a whole other discussion for another day!)

So for Fun Friday, who do you have a crush on in your everyday life?

You are too old and with too many kids (some role model) to be admitting this in a public forum! It is OK to lust, but, please, keep it private.

My daughter’s dentist looks a little like Fabio. Makes the appointment go faster. My mom still checks guys out and she is almost 62. The rule: Looking okay, but acting on it is not. Theresa, this just shows that you have a pulse. How many dads our age check out women? I liked it when my daughter was smaller and the fire department had their morning jog in the park.

Morning all…just trying to decide how to enter carefully and not ruffle anyone’s feathers….LOL.

Theresa, thanks for your support yesterday and also to the others who shared kind words. It meant a lot as I really scratch my head sometimes and remind myself that I do have hundreds of friends even when there are those here who love to hate me.

I cannot remember when is the last time I had a crush much less go to the trouble to be in the same room with that person. Guess I am too old or no fun like lakerat….LOL.

I have met lots of interesting men while I travel and enjoy visiting with them on the plane, as I sit next to them but that is as far as it goes….I generally remember the fascinating things they tell me and not how hot they are.

I do remember sitting next to a cute young firefighter, who was having a fight ( on the phone) with his fiance while we were preparing to take off. He was not much older than my son. I asked him what he did and he said he was a military firefighter. I sang my fire safety song to him and we got a laugh out of it…he and I talked ( at length) about how kids do not always know what to do in a fire and how parents do not practice an evacuation route.

Y’all have fun with this and stay warm.

I wish there was more “eye candy” for me to observe in my daily life. My old dentist was good looking but not that friendly, which turned me off. My new dentist is so sweet but not cute. I’d rather have sweet. Anyway, not too many manly men in my life right now, except for my husband of course :)
And i find it harmless…as long as you are just looking!

There have been lots of men that I have found very, very attractive, but I’m not sure that “crush” is how I would describe it! It’s sorta like admiring a painting in the museum — beautiful, but untouchable :-) You don’t necessarily have a “crush” on the painting, but gee, it sure feeds the soul just to look at it! I never understood why some women get so bent when their S/O or husband checks out other women — it’s not as though women don’t look, too!

Re: the weather. I got an email from the office I work out of this morning telling everyone that the office was closed at least until noon, and at that point, they’d make a decision whether or not to open. It’s an open office, anyway — people come and go at all hours — but this basically keeps the staff from being forced to come in. Just took the dog for a walk in the snow/ice — even walking, the road was a bit dicey in many spots. I think I’ll stay warm and cozy by the fire and work from home today!

DB — I’m glad they gave an option — it’s terrible for people to feel like they have to risk their lives and damage to their cars to go in when the roads are icy.

@ DB maybe that is it, I do agree that I see men who are interesting and have a second glance but that is at far as it goes. Good point!

School is out and thus I am home. So glad I did not have to hop a plane today!

@ Theresa, my son WALKED ( in the ice and snow) to his Pharmacy last year, as he told me;”some folks will need their medications Mom and I could actually get there…not everyone else could….so I went.”

A kind person stopped and picked him up halfway and his boss brought him back home.

I know some would consider this bragging about my kids but I am sharing it because sometimes, as a parent, you say WHY AM I DOING THIS….WILL THEY EVERY GROW UP TO BE RESPONSIBLE? The answer is YES if you are consistent and model the behavior you expect it should eventually happen. Some take longer than others and they do have relapses! Right DB?

And as I posted earlier today on yesterday’s blog, the outlook for the roads to get better does not appear to be until Monday! High today 28, tomorrow 32, and Sunday 32. But, as usual, all that is subject to change!

Hi There

My chiropractor is the hottest thing out there, I am starting to think you have to be in order to work in their office. I always try to look my best when I go for my adjustments, esp since he does touch me, part of the job. The toughest thing was when I went from being my super fit self to a blob afer having my daughter and knowing that he could feel the fat all over my body. He was really nice abou it and did mention how much better I would feel if I got down to my correct weight, which I did and he was right, almost no pain at all now.

I think it’s normal to have small crushes on people and if you didn’t you must not get out much. Just be sure not to act on them unless you want your whole world turned upside down. I’m just saying.

At home today with the little one and just trying to figure out what to do with my day since we can’t get out on the roads to go anywhere or at least window shopping. (sigh) Thankfully Little Gym starts up again tomorrow so I have that to look foward to and we already did our little kid yoga workout. Guess it will be a dance party later today. Hopefully it will warm up a bit so I can get my 10 mile run in tomorrow outside and not on the treadmill.

Have a good day everyone.

My 6-year-old just went out back to play — stayed out 10 mins if that long — came banging on the back door “help me! help me!” he wanted back in — he was covered in ice crystals — now snuggled under a blanket asking for hot cocoa! the baby wants to go out too but I’m not doing it — that can be daddy’s job — as soon as he gets off of his conference call.

We had an optometrist, man oh man was he hot!!! Also I’ve met a lot of guys in the reenactment group, not all are hot to look at, but looks are not eveything and really it is about the person, how they act towards others and the confidence they have about themselves that makes them HOT!.

One is NEVER too old to admit a few lusty notions! I for one am completely taken with the paint guru at our Lowes. We are adding a room to our basement…because not a deal with the devil would be enought o sell our house int his stupis market. I have had more difficulty choosing the right color for this room than ever before! I just can’t decide between the subtle nuances of latte, vanilla bean or eggnog! And he has been most helpful with the trim colors…..should I go with silver blues, earth tones or warm reds and oranges? So much ogleing…I mean deciding… to do…so little time:)

@ Hi there….my chiropractor is a woman and she has told me that they have seminars on appropriate and inappropriate touches while with clients. So yes, the thoughts may go both ways.
Not sure anyone could get riled up over a mouthful of teeth….who knows?

@ JG…you are too much….I am looking at my calendar….shoot…I have to go to Gainesville next week and just got back from Cobb. I am wondering what this guy looks like to get you so worked up.

You know, they may just employ cute guys at Lowes and Home Depot to bring the ladies in for home projects and spend more money. Prudent economics. They probably have job fairs at fitness centers! .Someone here needs to do a little research on this today, in their spare time!

Hope everyone is safe going home..

@ theresa…dangerous …do not mention that lady principals get moms….treading on thin ice here….LOL! I taught for 5 years before I had kids and thought I knew a lot about them.
Parents would constantly remind me that I would know more when I had my own children.
I thought they were nuts….not so much anymore!

I loved visiting my OB when I was pregnant with my son. I was 27 and he must have been in his late 30’s. He was the kindest man and every time he came in for the appointment …no matter how ENORMOUS I was….he would say, “you look so nice….that is a good color on you or that dress is very attractive.” A saint!

The lady doctors I had with my daughter give me nightmares. Re: the delivery and birth injury!

I had a total thing for my wife’s OB/GYN who delivered our son. She was SMOKING HOT. When a few of my buddies who came to see us before we went home saw her..they all asked me if she was single…so at least it wasn’t some weird fetish thing with me! My wife could tell too by all the prenatal appts I went to with her. On the flip side, my wife was ok with it because the Doc and my wife looked eerily similar. People thought they were sisters.

I figured this was a much better crush to let you in on than the one I have on the babysitter…don’t worry…she’s in college!

I tried working from home but my laptop says NO! I asked my boss to let me take it as a vacation day. He said yes. My two have the Disney Channel on, piled under a blanket with their Natendo DS stuff. They have already played Barbies, Rock ‘em Sock ‘em Robots, and I don’t know what but it was noisy so the quiet is nice.

A big pot of soup on the stove. Death threats if anyone opens the door to the bitter arctic air. LOL The kids said they really don’t want to go out in the cold hanging in their PJs is what they want to do. Works for me.

DB you said “It’s sorta like admiring a painting in the museum — beautiful, but untouchable :-) ” That is exactly how I described seeing Taylor Lautner in New Moon. I can appreciate he worked hard to sculpt that body AND appreciate that he is way too young for me. Like admiring a Picasso or Monet, I don’t have to possess it.

My dentist and last chiropractor are both cute. Both much closer to my age too ;) I have no crushes on the kids doctors.

Theresa I agree Modern Family is the best new comedy show on tv. Before I got to where you wrote about it, I was already thinking of the show. Of course it got better when the hospitalized dad got busted for flirting with the ladies in the hall. Plus when the redheaded dad twisted his ankle ;)

MJG I am pretty sure I am the one taking hits lately. It’s ok I have thick skin and don’t pay it any mind.

Everyone stay warm and think spring!!!

So just so we’re on the same page here…what exactly does “crush” mean to everyone? Probably no surprise that my crush is along the lines of “If I were single…I would LOVE to TAP that!”

I’m guessing for Theresa it’s somewhere along the lines of “if I were single, I would LOVE to spend a long evening discussing the latest book we each read with that man!”

maybe it’s a gender thing, but I’m getting the feeling that if you have to change your OB because of your “crush”, it might be more along the lines of my crush than Theresa’s.
