I'm shocked that some of the parents who wrote above continue to use recalled products. It's terrible to use a stroller that could sever the ends of children's fingers. If your baby is small, a friend or relative's child could get their fingers in the wrong place. It's difficult to watch a child every minute. That's what one mom said when a TV tipped over and killed her child. She was right there, but she couldn't get over to her child in time to prevent the tragedy.

Very small amounts of lead can make a child extremely ill. This was news to me. I thought lead poisoning occurs through years of accumulation.

I've been a consumer writer for years. We are fortunate that the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission was created in 1972. These recalls are to be taken seriously. Only the worst products are recalled.

My latest post is about Stork Craft drop-side cribs with plastic hardware that are being recalled. The plastic hardware can break causing corners to detach and make a space where children can become entrapped and suffocate. If you have one of these cribs, stop using it immediately, the commission advises.

Parents, please pay attention to these recalls. Don't use recalled products. Get the repair kit and repair them or get the replacement product offered Please, for the sake of your child.

[...] and you can track down a bunch of them at the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. Lately, some Maclaren strollers have been recalled, due to a hinge that has reportedly severed some kid fingertips. Ouch. Here’s the scoop. [...]

At www.recallaware.com, we are working on a mechanism where you will be able to register for the areas and products of interest to you and be notified via email/twitter and other mechanisms when such a product is recalled.

RecallAware also aggregates information from several govt. sites together, including CPSC.

I never did -- mostly, because the internet wasn't geared to that, "back in the day". I'm still not sure I'd be the type to check it frequently -- I guess I figure that if it was bad enough, I'd hear it on the news.

And I tend to agree with Vork, too -- common sense is not so common.

We are leaving the house right now with our Maclaren! As I said, I ordered the kit, but will continue to use the stroller until it arrives. We've been using the stroller for 2 1/2 years now and we all still have our fingers. I agree with others -if parents are using their hands and teaching older toddlers to use their hands with it, then they're IDIOTS. Part of the ease of the stroller is that you use your foot!

I have a Maclaren and I will continue to use it. I saw on GMA this morning some of the YouTube videos they found where parents were demonstrating opening and closing their stroller WITH THEIR HANDS! That is just plain stupid. The Maclarens were designed so that you use your feet to open and close it. These geniuses obviously did not read the manual.

I can't believe that I am saying this, but I actually agree with Vork. Parental negligence and stupidity are not the manufacturer's fault.
