Dating: Suit and Tie required?

Hello Lovelies!

I asked my gal pal Brittany aka Alone in Atlanta to cover an event for me while I was at the beach.   She went and filed this dating scene report, so check out what happened one night in May:

I attended a fabulous singles mixer hosted by Eight at Eight Dinner Club: A dinner club dating service that selects a compatible mix of single people matched by age, interests, and background. Eight at Eight also brought singles to the swanky Buckhead Theater for a singles style coaching event called “Get Your Sexy On”.  The night was about aiding singles in picking the perfect attire for dates! Style Coaches Carmen of Naked Fashion Help and Victor of Victorious Inc. broke down the Dos and Don’ts for both men and women when it comes to selecting ensembles for various outings. Topics ranged from getting fit and grooming for men to ditching the jeans and slipping on a dress for women. The presentation was complete with pictures as well as true stories from singles about what they think about how the opposite sex dresses for date night! There were even a few brave volunteers ready and willing to stand before the style coaches to have their outfits dissected and determined if they were date worthy or not. A question and answer portion followed the presentation where men and women also shared with each other what THEY like to see on the opposite sex when dating! To complete the night, there were 2 giveaways of 2 mini makeovers that valued over $300 as well as services from Eight at Eight. Taking in our style session, single attendees finished the night mixing, mingling, and anxious to take lessons learned from the seminar and “get their sexy on”.

Thanks Brittany! I am sorry I missed this.  This brings to mind an interesting question.  Men don’t wear suit and ties for business like they used to, let alone dating!  What do you like to see your dates wear?

Personally, I love it when guys sport those blazers, fitted slacks, and casual looks.  It just drives me crazy when a man shows up looking unkempt, outdated, or raggedy.  Please put some effort in your appearance! If I prep for a date for 90 minutes, you can put at least 30 into getting ready! What do you think?

How do you dress for dates? Obviously, it depends on the date activity – but I am curious to know what attire you select? What did you wear on your last date?

Hello All

I’m at the age where keeping up with the latest fashion is very very low on my list. It’s take me as I am, or nothing at all. I take care of me to make myself happy, and I like women that do the same. not attracted to someone that’s always worried what others think about them. And as far as a suit and tie, unless I’m going to church, not going to happen.

Morning
Where whatever you feel comfortable wearing in that given situation. My last date involved lots of walking around, so we were both very casual. Thing is, even “dressed down”, she was still fine.

Good Friday Morning! Unless we’re going to a show or and intimate dinner, I usually wear something casual. For my last date night I wore white shorts with a mulit colored tube top sporting an adorable 5 inch wedge sandal.

I’ve yet to see my current in a suit and tie, heck I had to check to see if he even owned at least one suit and tie, relieved that he does, I’m still trying to get him to put one on.

I don’t like wearing suits unless it’s for work so I can see how some men feel against wearing it outside of work…esp for dates.

gmorn Dreams & Single ;)

we just had twins!!! Danielle & Gabrielle were born in ATL this a.m. so exciting.

on topic:
ONE! i enjoy a clean cut man. Clean shaven face and smooth hair cut. TWO! i need him to smell good. he doesn’t have to be saturated with cologne. actually, i prefer he not wear any. smelling clean and fresh, like just getting out the shower is a plus. THREE! i hope his breath is good. if our date is going my way, i have to see if he’s a good kisser. it’s major to have pearly whites. no yuck mouth. gross! FOUR! it helps if he cares about his dress. his clothes should be new or look new. putting things in the cleaners helps. but if he out dress me, or look better than me… i can’t have that! i’m known to buy new everything for dates. i expect him to do the same or put in as much effort. can you tell now why i’m single? smh.

there is a time and place for a suit & tie. very few. but a man should have one on deck just in case something comes up. kept in a suit bag hanging in the closet. and a pair of unscuff’d Stacey’s in a shoe box ret to go

I don’t think I need to attend a class on the do’s and don’ts of dressing for a date or to catch someone’s eye. I dress for myself, always respectfully dressed, and I dress for the venue and the event I’m attending.

It’s not rocket science, but I do think women have this a little more down pat than some men. I remember meeting a man for drinks after work. He’s coming from his home and I’m coming straight from work. He had on dingy, hell dirty jeans, jacket full of stains and ashy hands and arms. I was perplexed and only asked he came from home. When he said yes, we had one drink together and I excused myself.

Show some effort.

Good, good Friday morning!!

“…his clothes should be new or look new”

Beautiful, are you serious. Everyone is not wearing new clothes every time they meet up with someone. How about clean and pressed. If want him to wear new clothes are you going to contribute to his wardrobe expense?

“I want him to look phine, but not too phine to take the attention off of me. you know I’m an attention whore” – Are you serious? I’m cracking up. Dating should be a competition to see who gets the most attention. WOW

“can you tell now why i’m single? smh.” – Yes ma’am!

dan – I started it off by saying that one of my aunt’s said her granddaughter asked her why she always had that line in her pants. from there we kind of clowned the creases. some folks here still crease jeans. I think most iron flat if they iron them at all.

@ITL naw, you white line ‘em, you display a lack of skill.

@2C’s – what up bruh? Been a long time. Hope all is well. As for the creases, that’s the young ones walking around in dirty looking jeans and a blazer (looks bass ackward to me).

Your wardrobe should already consist of something for every occasion. IMO, dressing is that thing you either have or don’t.

I don’t ever shop or dress to catch folks’ eye. I’m too grown for that. :) I do me. Sometimes I feel like being fly and sometime I feel like toning it down. As I get older, mostly I like classically classic pieces and suits as well as shoes. Nothing beats a fly pair of pumps. Keep all those dern straps and stuff…lol I don’t too much care for colors and stuff screaming for attention. Folks whose clothes are louder than them reeks of “cheap.” I don’t do cheap. I’m not with the buy 1, get 10 free type hookups. That too has cheap written all over it, IMO.

I like my dude crisp and clean cut. That’s not exclusive to a suit, that’s just who and what he is. From smelling good, to wearing a suit, in jeans, ready for farm work  or just sporting that good cotton stuff, you know a tee and boxerbriefs. Not that cheap material…lol

There are many ways you can spin “fresh” and if you “got it” naturally, it’s going to be present from head to toe. And really folks that can pull it off, does it effortlessly.

I saw a dude in line that works across the way. I know this because of the tag on his shirt. I had to comment to him how impressed I was. He was laundered down…neck to ankle. Crisp, clean and presentable for work. He was blue collar and wore it well. Not to mention he was hispanic, looked about 50ish, had beautiful salt and pepper hair, and a nice build. Very handsome and wore his age well.

disco ~ HUSH!!!! Yes I remember. I just told a friend that story about the creased jeans a few days ago because she commented on my crease. It’s a permanent crease. I couldn’t iron it out if I tried. It’s just there. BUT, I know that white line is going to appear soon. The guy standing next to us asked if I remembered when we used to sew the creases in our jeans. I fell out laughing all over again.

C – I’m team strappy shoe. I think the classic pump is so boring looking.

C – I, too, almost always give props when I see someone looking particularly fly, dapper, cute, whatever. it can be a child, grown person, senior, whatever. if you rocking it, you rocking it. I had dinner with a friend a couple of weekends ago and I mentioned to her several times that her dress was just too daggone short. it was short enough to embarrass me and I wasn’t wearing it. she thought she was fly though so more power to her. smiling and talking about which dudes were looking at her. I’m like yeah, all your azz is hanging out. lol.

speaking of appropriate fashion I went to run at the track last night and there was this guy working out in jeans. yep. he was running laps and then getting in the grass to do sit-ups. initially I looked at him funny but he was getting it in so who am I to judge. I just imagine it must have been awfully uncomfortable.
