Do you need background info?
One of my friends had an awkward first date recently. The guy was a “referral” from her co-worker, so he was basically a blind date set up. The fact that he knew a boatload of personal information about her on their first date bothered her, though.
She is extremely private at work, so the co-worker was not privy to some of the things her date knew. It turns out that the guy went on a little fact minding mission before he met her. The co-worker only gave him her first and last name and what school she went to.
One quick (too quick?) Facebook search and he spotted a connection. Someone he went to school with was related to my friend. I don’t know which is creepier, the effort he put into get some background information – or the fact that he told her how much he “already discovered” about her.
Listen, I am sure this guy has a perfectly good explanation for going through great lengths to screen my friend. Perhaps he has a psycho ex. Maybe he has had his pet rabbit boiled in a revenge plot. I get it. He doesn’t want to be hurt again! I have to ask, though, do you think he went too far?
Would you consider it a red-flag if someone you just met knew waaaaay too much information about you? Would you go out with this person again if that was the only thing that turned you off?
Have you ever used Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc. to “get a better sense” of someone’s personality? Did it make you rethink dating them?
I swear, Facebook is a blessing and curse for dating..at the same time.

we’d be doing walmart parking lot swaps. I’d pop the trunk, kid would grab his bag, hop into mom’s car
disco – In a perfect world….get this, I rode with my cousin to do a kid exhange in a public parking lot. She usually met the dad at their usual spot but the dad’s wife was starting to have issues with their communication. Anyway, I ride with her and don’t you know those two and eventually me, ended up in a scuffle out in broad daylight. I’m like, this is crazy and this ain’t even my issue but I couldn’t sit back and just watch it happen.

Back to the original topic – you crazy kids and your electronic social networks. Back in my day, if you wanted to run a background check on a broad you would ask your potnahs did they know her and had any of them hit that. If she cleared those hurdles, she was good. I remember I started feeling this one chick, and I ran that background check. One of my homies said he knew her. He told me ” DuShawn, you know she used to dance.” I was like dayum. then he said, “but I never seen her” I was like ,”Shiiid, she still good to go then.” I figured, I don’t mind if other men had seen the puddy, just not yall muffuggas.

now slim got me picturing the lil girl on the news a while back. got hot oil (or something like that) poured on her for “helping” her bff deal with some unruliness in a public parking lot.

slim – yep. it’s messed up. I always said that it wouldn’t do for me to have a custody issue. I’d be in contempt from the gate, before I even left the courtroom I’d have to tell the judge I’m in contempt. “yo honor. that ain’t gone work for me. do what you gotta do”.
