Romantic comedies made us cynical?

My friend Paul said that romantic comedies, romance novels, and sexy vampires are making women become cynics. If regular men don’t chase us all over town or doing some grand romantic gesture, some women actually feel disappointed.

I argued that no smart woman is walking around trying to be Nina Moseley to someone’s Darius Lovehall. There is no Katherine Heigel type women storing 27 bridesmaids dresses in her closet. We get that Hollywood love and real life love are vastly different things!

Granted, the right man, brave enough to open his heart and declare his love would probably be well-received. Do we really get disappointed if men don’t act out a love story from a movie? I just don’t think so.

If anything makes us cynical, it’s the emotional roller coaster we get stuck on trying to navigate a dating relationship. Maybe those romantic comedies serve as an escape from all of that. What do you think?

Guys, do you feel pressure to do all the crazy in love things men do in movies? Do you get the sense that the women you date create or manufacture drama, just so they can play out some twisted scene from a movie character’s life?

Happy Wednesday!

C – as far as parenting goes, in my opinion, the “nature” of male/female isn’t as important as being the standup man/woman necessary to parent the child. heck, all kinds of “natural” males/females ain’t doing right by their kids. I make the same argument when folks talk about people adopting kids of different races. sure I’d probably like it if every child could be with parents of their own racial background but if there aren’t any stepping up and parents of another race are, I’m all for it. who am I to talk about who is adopting who when I’m not adopting anybody?

My best friend is a gay man and his brother is also gay. They grew up in a very Christian, loving environment. They both knew they were gay when they were very young…

I just hate the stigma that gay people are perverts!!! I’ve known many people who were molested by straight men…

I’m gonna have to dip out of this conversation before it makes me mad…

I have always wondered why it seems that boys that grow up constantly in church, singing and usually has a much older parent, are a bit flamboyant. Anyone else ever noticed that ‘trend’ if I can call it one?

I am ok with gays having same benefits as normal folks if that makes them not be discriminated against.

However I don’t think being gay is what God wants.

But we all are going to find out, aren’t we..

The problem with being ok with gays comes when you actually have to ‘associate’ with them. That’s where my inclusivity gets tested.

This morning when I went for breakfast at the hotel where I’m at, I noticed that the dude who helps out in the kitchen is gay. Folks, this dude walks with a behind waay behind himself, like a woman that to me,it was real nauseating. The breakfast was nothing to write home about and after eating the first box of cereal to start the routine, I decided to get another box since there was nothing there on the breakfast menu that I liked.

That’s when I noticed Mr lady behind, replenishing some items in the freezer that was next to the microwave. I wanted to go warm my milk but on seeing him,I recoiled. I shuddered at the thought of even saying to him,’excuse me’. It felt that foul to me.

I looked around and that’s when I saw another microwave behind me.

I was relieved.

Incidence of teachers having sex with young students seems to be increasing; I don’t know if there’s a corollary to being a gay scouting leader. Maybe, maybe not. If there are to be gay scout leaders, hopefully disclosure of that will be required. My kids wouldn’t be in that troop. I think it’s enough of a controversy that parents deserve to be informed of it.

Homosexuality is a good example of sin that some people want to declare is not a sin. It’s not committing the sin that’s all that; it’s the denial of it even being sin. Episcopalian and ELCA Lutherans have gay clergy. Hmm.

Gays having the same benefits as “normal” folks? That statement makes me sick. Being straight does not make you “normal.” Being gay does not make you “abnormal.” Ugh…I’m thoroughly disgusted right now by that mentality.

abc – You wouldn’t want your kids in a group where the leader is gay? I can understand if it was a matter of protection from some sort of child molester but even when straight folks apply for coaching/teaching jobs, I don’t believe “what sex do you have relations with” is asked. I would be okay with it, as long as there was no PDA type situations going on with their lover in the presence of the kids. I believe that should be kept totally separate.

One of my best friends is a lesbian, in a relationship with a woman that has 2 girls. My friend also has custody of her nephew and they are both very good parents. The boy is very much into girls and the daugthers are very much into boys. But everyone has their opinion and their right to it.

I personally believe that some people are born gay or have a predisposition for that lifestyle. I believe it results from a chromosomal disorder, similar to a hermaphrodite. Environment plays a small role. The few gay men I know, we knew they were different as kids. They were playing Double Dutch while the rest of us played football. There is a lesbian couple that’s real cool with our family. The dominant female is butch, but a pretty girl. She tries hard to act like a dude. I asked her why she does it. She told me it’s not an act. It’s who she is. She’s has been that way since she was a little girl. Ironically, she has two children. She must’ve behaved like a female at some point.

Um…having sex outside of missionary style and outside of trying to create a baby is a sin also, isn’t it?

Does one have to disclose being straight to be a scout leader or a teacher? No…why would one have to disclose being gay? I don’t think your child can become gay just by having a gay scout leader who may shake his hand. Sickened at the intolerance!!!

Good point. It’s not “judging” folks to repeat what is recorded in the good book. It won’t erase or disappear cause folks don’t say, discuss it, speak against it….or even further, just because everybody is doing. Everybody doing it don’t means it’s becoming more acceptable. It means it’s the sign of the times.

I have a gay flaming cousin that just got saved last year. He’s got the tendencies but I know for certain he accepted Christ as his savior. That means, he might think about it, he might be tempted as we all “LIVE” in the flesh, the job now is to follow the Holy Spirit as it guides him away from that lifestyle. I think that’s fantab!!!

because you “think” he’s gay? – Not sure why this made me laugh. Yes I am. Some things, you don’t “think” you just know. If a man’s hips move like a woman’s hip and he’s straight, he has problems. Our hip bones are different thereby letting women switch when they walk. Perhaps a gay man has the same hip structure as a woman. Hmmmm, doctors should look into that. Ok, I went left (2nd time today)…

I’m gonna shut up about this topic now because it is getting to me. It’s a bit touchy to me because some of the best people I know are gay. My best friend and some family members. I just hate to think that some people would walk away from them if they found out they were gay. There is too much intolerance in this world, whether it is towards the GLBT community or towards other races…

abc

Sex without benefit of marriage, ergo fornication, is a sin; sodomy (oral, anal) is a sin; a common term applied to it is ’sexual morality’. I’d guess that probably most of the people we all know have committed those sins, but relatively few would refuse that they even are sins.

No, I would not want my children to be influenced such that they were exposed to the idea that homosexuality is normal. As much as I’ve been around gay people, and count them as friends, I do not think that homosexual behavior is normal. I think that the biological function of sex — quite apart from the recreational aspects of it — make that pretty clear.
