Romantic comedies made us cynical?

My friend Paul said that romantic comedies, romance novels, and sexy vampires are making women become cynics. If regular men don’t chase us all over town or doing some grand romantic gesture, some women actually feel disappointed.

I argued that no smart woman is walking around trying to be Nina Moseley to someone’s Darius Lovehall. There is no Katherine Heigel type women storing 27 bridesmaids dresses in her closet. We get that Hollywood love and real life love are vastly different things!

Granted, the right man, brave enough to open his heart and declare his love would probably be well-received. Do we really get disappointed if men don’t act out a love story from a movie? I just don’t think so.

If anything makes us cynical, it’s the emotional roller coaster we get stuck on trying to navigate a dating relationship. Maybe those romantic comedies serve as an escape from all of that. What do you think?

Guys, do you feel pressure to do all the crazy in love things men do in movies? Do you get the sense that the women you date create or manufacture drama, just so they can play out some twisted scene from a movie character’s life?

Happy Wednesday!

speaking of chiseled (and tying into yesterday’s discussion on young’uns) there were two prime specimens at the gym last night. I remember thinking they just looked like someone chiseled them out of chocolate marble or something. those little young boys were cut up something nice. (and I just literally shook my head to do away with the image. sort of like clearing the etch a sketch).

did anyone take blog attendance today? I think we are going to have to send notes home with a few folks.

Romantic comedies only make cynics or dreamers out of those that don’t understand that it’s fiction.

Courtside- That video was funny. And if he does not stop shaking his hair & brushing it back. At what age does a man let go of the flowing hair thing? I am not even going there with Stevie Wonder holding onto those braids in the back of his head! He gets a pass because he can’t see his head (going to hell for that one, lol).

Disco- Laughing at you shaking your head to clear the image. Nothing wrong with admiring.

ms atl – I have an uncle who held onto his curl way longer than the rest of the world held on to their curls. his was long and hung down his back. you couldn’t tell him nothing. he then started losing hair in the front/center but still kept that curl going. he eventually had a full fledged ball spot on top and still wasn’t ready to let go of the curl. he finally, only in recent years, shaved his head.

Bluz – I have nothing Nu to report thus far…guess there isn’t that much gossip around town going on. I didn’t come to work last Wednesday, and the task that I normally do had to be done by 4 ppl while I was out. So today everybody kept telling me how bad and backed up things were and it made them appreciate when I am here. So that was a nice ego stroke for me today. ;-)

I have a guy friend from school that has locks but he’s balding at the top of his head and it doesn’t look that good. I wish he’d just cut it off. I mean, does it matter how long your hair is in the back it the top looks like shiny bowling ball?

Then that means I don’t need to see it DuShawn. I scare easily. My child surprised me with a home visit while I was cooking dinner. I’m so thankful my quick reflexes didn’t have me releasing the knives I had in my hand when she jumped into the house.

leggs – I don’t know if it’s good or bad. lol.

dushawn – no I do not have a problem with gays having/raising children but apparently a lot of folks do. recently on the radio, with the boy scout drama, they had a call in essentially asking how folks felt about gay men in “role model” positions. I wish I could say I was surprised at the number of people who felt like gay men shouldn’t have jobs. lol. okay, that’s not what they said but they shouldn’t be scout leaders, shouldn’t be teachers, shouldn’t hold church positions, the list went on and on. I just drove along shaking my head.

Du – I don’t think it increases the chances of the baby being gay at all!!!

I’m crushing on a guy that I have to get out of my head!!! He and I would make a great couple, but he’s my friend’s recent ex boyfriend. He came out to see me play on Friday and that’s really the first time I noticed that I liked him! I’ve known him for years and always thought he was attractive. I guess we have recently talked a little more about personal things. I have to let him go, though. My friend is really in love with him…oh well…

I’ve thought that very thing before DuShawn, but I don’t think it will. Supposedly, you are either born that way or not and your environment doesn’t make you gay, unless the world consisted only of men.

But, was the punk guy gay or just a punk?

DuShawn: yes, I think so. Representing homosexuality as a norm would make it more likely to become an adopted lifestyle.

I do not think that gay men should be allowed to be scout leaders. There was a gay scoutmaster when I was a kid; his son was in our troop; he molested perhaps 20-25 of the boys in the troop. Nature hikes. Sickening.

Bluz- Step away from the friend’s ex…

DuShawn- I do not have an issue with gay people raising children; I have a problem with nincompoops, abusers, and druggies raising children. As far as teachers are concerned, as long as he or she knows how to teach, I don’t care about their orientation. It seems lately that the female teachers are the ones messing with the male students.

Disco- Lick the sweat off him? I’m cringing, lol.

Regarding being born that way or adopting the behavior somehow: I don’t think many DL men are gay before they are incarcerated.

If that is the case, then we should not let men teach young girls cause they might moleste them or let women teach young boys because we have all heard of female teachers screwing 13 year old boys right???

I know countless chicks who “went gay” after having had several kids. I know a few guys who were in gay denial, fathered some kids and then decided to respect the truth. I don’t think what or who they do necessarily affects their ability to parent. good parent or bad parent I don’t think being gay is what determines that.

celisea – gay men are still male. lesbians are still female. at least in most cases. sure don’t want to open up the whole transgender can of worms. lol.

ms atl – well do you at least remember the scene in the movie? lol. I’m seeking justification. that wasn’t my thought. I just borrowed a thought from a movie. a romantic comedy no less. I am on topic. lol.

I like to eat alone and observe people. I watched how he/she interacted with the child and concluded that person appears to be a good parent. I wondered however, how the child would end up. I learned how to be a man by watching and imitating my father and other men. If a kid grows up watching a he/she day in and day out, wouldn’t he be conditioned to emulate that example?

My brothers were Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts and there was a huge mess of molestation going on and this was in the 70s. Talk about my mama snatching them out. IMO, children getting molested happens at the hands of folks that lack morals, decorum and decency. Now you can be gay, straight….whatever.
