As fun as dating in Atlanta can be, there is a certain part of it that can get frustrating. You know how it is when you start to feel like you are going through a constant stream of dates. You’re meeting people, making pseudo-connections only to find that the interest and pursuit fizzles out faster than you can say …Peachtree.
Although some folks admit to being afraid of commitment, there are others who can’t manage to focus on one great potential romance longer than two solid weeks. I like to call that dating attention deficit disorder. With so many “choices” and distractions (strip clubs?) in this city, is it any wonder we get stuck in a revolving door?
How do you manage drown out all the distractions and really focus on someone who is potentially a good match? Do you think online dating, a good nightlife, and many eligible singles makes it difficult to overcome Dating ADD?
If you think of the last time you met someone you felt a deep connection with, how did you decide to tie up those “loose ends” and focus on that one person? Is it wrong to expect someone you date to be consistent if you both feel the same way about one another?

I don’t usually make resolutions, but I did this year. The other one was to explore life more. I already enjoy it, just need to live it a little more. Get out there and have fun, that’s my reso.

leggs – this year’s resolution was to read one “black” classic per month. I just started Richard wright’s black boy. I haven’t read it in a very long time. bad azz kid. setting houses on fire, killing cats, hanging out in bars. he was getting it in. lol.
bluz – if this blog is the drama in someone’s life they truly have very little going on in their life. ijs.

disco – I mean more about not having much drama in your life to post about. Like me…I’ve had a little drama, but haven’t let it get to me like I have in the past. Therefore, I haven’t really had drama to post about…The stuff with Mags could be drama, but I’m not letting it…

kimmie – my son coined that phrase way back in junior high. it came up recently because he went out on a date with a chick that he said was too saditty for him. he said he needs a girl that was brought up in the hood but wants to put in the work to not have to go back. that reminded me of his “ghetto goodie goodie”.

Courtside – I too want to add some drama, but different from that you are describing.
The drama I want to add or create will be due to speaking my mind more on things at work and at home. I am tired of being the peacekeeper and the diplomat all the time. It’s time for folks to know what’s REALLY going on in certain situations. I am sure once I say what’s up, there will be drama, but they’ll be alright!

Just watched “Life After” featuring Bernadette Stanis last week. I laughed when she said her father came downstairs and told the boys playing basketball that when they saw his daughter they are to ignore her and cross the street. She said no boy talked to her.

what? kimmie trying to be a mouthpiece in 2013? lol. that’s what I’m talking about.
bluz – if you really want me to admit I’ll tell you that you got on my nerves most of the daggone time with that predictable mess. I mostly held my tongue because 1) I like you and 2) we really weren’t talking about anything else. this is the blog. I don’t have to read it. now, you and I as real life friends? I would only have put up with so much of your mess. it would have gotten real old real quick. I’m that one that goes there with my friends. I may have mentioned one particular chick and her problems on here before. fast forward x number of years and she still has the same problem. she called me this a.m. and I asked if she were up to a quick weekend getaway. she replied she didn’t know if her money was right. in general I can accept that but when a chick has a job, a husband and a boyfriend she simply should not be broke. I don’t understand some folks.

Kimmie, I have been a good dater for years….. never had alot of foolishness, or whatnot swirling around.. Now I do not want psycho stalker chick hiding inthe bushes, but I do want to push the dating envelope a bit more. Go to some of the more aggresive clubs in the metro, get out of the safelane and LIVE a little bit more. I think I have done nearly all I can do in this lane and it might be time for me to take off the training wheels and drive without a seat belt.

Disco – Dang, you got that right!LOL!!!
I can see how Bluz was frustrating to read sometimes, but I can also see some growth in her. That’s the important thing to take away. There is a friend of a friend, an older lady about mid/late 50’s. Every now and then I ask my friend about her. Still the same after all these years, same mess. Broke, hates her job, manless not even an FWB err now and then, car & house broke down, mad cause her daughter is moving on with her life! Same stuff going on for I know the last 10 years no joke. My friend says she just holds the phone when she calls because every time she tries to suggest something to her, like look for another job, she goes off. What can you do with some folk?

kimmie – a friend and I have a mantra every year. this year it’s EAC-2013. it means elevate-accelerate-compensate. elevate means taking things to another (higher) level. accelerate means making it happen, not waiting on it to happen. stop talking about it and being about it. compensate is self explanatory. stay on your money game.
courtside – hush.

I think this blog helped me to grow some. I think back to all my messes last year and think “how the heck did I make it?” LOL! I’m not putting up with the BS anymore. I think it helped me to be able to talk through my issues and have people tell me what I didn’t want to hear. I actually feel good about not giving Mags the power to know he upset me this weekend. As a matter of fact, I’m no longer even upset about it. He said something rude via a Facebook message and I almost went off on him. Instead, I waited and said nothing and just unfriended him on there. I’m proud of myself for that!
Trust me…that was big. I wanted to get in the final word and fought myself, but I let it go!

Life is too short. Grudges are a waste of perfect happiness. Laugh when you can. Apologize when you should. Let go of what you can’t change. Love deeply and forgive quickly. Take chances. Give everything and have no regrets. Life is too short to be unhappy. You have to take the good with bad. Smile when you are sad. Love what you got. Always remember what you had. Always forgive and learn from your mistakes. People change and things go wrong but always remember, LIFE GOES ON!!
Someone sent this to me some years years ago. For every move I’ve made I’ve carried with me.
