Would you relocate without a proposal?
If you were barely at the year mark of a new relationship, would you relocate to another city if they asked you to go with them? Allison is facing this exact situation. She did not hesitate to say yes and was excited at the idea of moving to a new city with her new man. It wasn’t until she started hearing opinions of friends and family that she second guessed her decision.
She says she is unhappy at her job, loves her new guy, and is not worried about moving with him without a marriage proposal. She has heard all the common reactions “why buy the cow” or “playing house” but it only makes her more confused. Should she require a ring in order to move with him? Does the fact that he asked her to go with him show commitment to their relationship?
Is it wrong to rearrange your life or consider the person you are dating when making a major life change?
Have you ever relocated for love? Did you regret it? Do you think we generally don’t take risks like this when it comes to love?

Hello All
Allison’s first mistake is letting friends and family influence her about a life changing decision. If she’s living on her own here, she can do the same there! Just because she moves to the same city doesn’t mean she has to move in the same house. And even if she does it’s her decision!
My ex moved her to be with me, but she didn’t move in with me.
So which is better, to do the things in life that make YOU happy, or regret the things you didn’t do because you listen to others.
The bigger question is does she have her own responsibilities and obligations. Having a job when she gets there should be a bigger issue than a ring!

She should move there,into her own place and continue with her man. It’s the better of the two options,vs staying where she is and be in a long distance.
Coz in a long distance,you know certainly one of the parties cheats. Unless uall just decide to date long distance,one eye half closed.
So Allison should go for it.
Forget the losers,half of whom proly aren’t in relationships themselves.

None of those people offering “advice” are in the relationship with Allison and her man. Only the two of them know how real and strong the commitment is. If Allison feels this is the next logical step, then go for it! Say toodles to the haters, and enjoy her life.

this is one of those depends questions for me. depends on the people (their ages, their maturity level, etc). depends on the place (a city I wouldn’t mind being in, a place I know I could make it if things went left versus some backwoods dusty little town that I sho nuff don’t belong in). in the case of Allison I think she should go. if the only thing that’s holding her back is what other people have to say now is the perfect time to learn to make choices/decisions for you, not them. if it works, great. if it doesn’t it doesn’t. lesson learned. regroup and get on with your life.

Whether or not I would make the decision to relocate for love would depend on what I have going on in my life at the time. If it’s time for me to make a change, then why not go for it? It’s not like you can’t come back if it doesn’t work out…I’d probably just rent my house out instead of selling it so that I could come back to it if need be!!!

Topic – I find myself agreeing with Single, Ex, Button & Disco on this. Yeah, normally I would say go for the ring first, but you gotta know your situation. Sometimes you gotta just go for it! There are ways to protect herself – get her own place, make sure she has a job lined up for herself, and then just do the dang thing! Like Disco said, especially if the move would be to an exciting city with more opportunities to offer than the one you’re in. It could be a win-win, even if things don’t work out with dude. Heck, even if they don’t make it, it could put her in a better dating market! And she’s saying she’s hating her job too. Oh yeah, I would be excited too if I were in her shoes!
In the past, I’ve dated guys that had to move and we did the long distance thing. The kiss of death, for the relationship! Plus, neither of those guys even ASKED!
Her friends & family just want the best for her, I would hope, and they are on the outside looking in. I probably might advise the same if I were her sister or best friend, or at least tell her to make sure she looks out for herself. But at some point you have to grow up and decide for yourself. If it doesn’t work out, deal with that like a grown woman. I had a frew friends that did what Allison is considering, moved for love without a ring. At the time I thought to myself they may be making a mistake, but I did keep it to myself because they were dealing with some stand-up guys. It worked out for them, so what do I know?

Good Morning Bloggers! Merry New Year! Happy Belated Holidays!
I didn’t marry her, but I offered her a deal she couldn’t resist. Even though I said forget working, she’s been working since the second month she came back. Since that she started insisting that she pay me back. I have refused to let her, so she’s been donating money in my name monthly. I told her the next donation has to be to our debauchery at the strip club…we’ll see.
The reality of it is, I wanted her back and love her dearly. However, I realized quickly what it is to have someone around constantly. I disliked it a lot, but she picked up on it, and acted. She gave me space, and went back to the independent woman I desire(d). FTR, she could have done whatever she wanted (she chose to work), as long as I got some of my alone time.

That’s why I’m not so quick to say one should wait on a ring. I would not want to look back and have regrets. Even though it just may not work out in the love category, that could have been your opportunity to put you in place for something great and life-changing. I can see if you have obligations keeping you some place, like kids, a home, sick parents to care for, a job you just can’t pick up and leave right away. But if you have none of those things holding you back, nothing wrong with taking a well-planned out chance.

Diet is not a bad word Bluz. If you cut carbs out, and eat high protien & fiber – you can be as lean as you want. My diet is this – If I can’t list the ingredients, it’s out. If it deosn’t bleed or grow from the ground, it’s out. I do a cheat day usually every week, and sometimes (about twice a year) I’ll take two weeks off. By the end of the second week, all I want is my diet back, and the wholesome natural foods it provides.
A diet isn’t a fad, it’s a lifestyle.

Having my diabetic brother living with me now is opening my eyes up to carbs. We have decided to try to eath healthy together. We went grocery shopping the other day and he was very proud of me that I opted to not buy bagels once I saw how many carbs were in them!!! Pasta is my worst enemy. I’ll easily have it 4 nights a week cause it’s easy to make.

When Wifey and I moved to Georgia, we weren’t married or engaged, but dayum we were in love. I remember having the conversation with her, I was like “I gotta get out of Miami, it’s too much negative energy, and my life is spiraling out of control. I’m leaving at the end of the week…..You coming?” We locked the doors to our respective homes, said forget furniture, we will figure that later, packed a few bags and hit it, with little money and no jobs. I moved into my Grandmother’s house in this small town near Savannah. She had it built from the ground up before she passed. I ended up getting a Job and wifey enrolled in nursing school. That was the beginning of our transformation from Bonnie and Clyde to Cliff and Claire.

If this is what she wants and she’s comfortable with her decision, then she should make it HER decision. There will always be someone putting their negative spin on things because it’s a tough topic. People need to stop listening to others who have no bearing on their relationship and start listening to what their heart and mind dictates. If she’s talked it out with her SO and is still comfortable with everything, then go for it. She made her bed and she will sleep in it with him, or alone. Leggs – I hate it when people allow what others say to railroad their dreams. Yes, it’s common sense to not follow a dude without a sound commitment being made, especially if you’re going to be dependant on him and don’t have any other support system of your own. Children also give you pause. At this point in my life, if I were not married, I would think twice about doing such. But it does depend on the situation and careful planning. Would you have moved from Mayberry to LA anyway to pursue your dream if dude had not come along and suggested coming with him when he got his promotion?
My aunt still regrets she didn’t leave her little secretary job she had at the AU center and take that international flight attendant job she was offered or the IBM job. Let naysayers talk her out of it and there was no man or kids involved in any of those situations. I have a few regrets of my own, missed opportunities I should not have let others talk me out of. You live and learn. And it’s your life, and you only live once. Sometimes you just have to go on and do some things and don’t tell others about it until it’s done!
I bet I won’t let any opportunities pass me by again!

Bluz ~ how’s this for a shakeup. I called a friend last night asking him to come clean my pipes after I take lil leggs back to school. He’s willing so ‘m going to have a wild night of sex tomorrow evening. Hopefully, the box of pancakes in the pantry will finally be used come Sunday morning. I just remembered, I have some Italian sausage in the freezer I can thaw out to go with the panni cakes!! Woo Hoo, it’s on and popping!!!

You know, I was thinking when I ran out at lunch time about something that’s been on my mind the last few years. It’s a little related to the topic. I realized I have gotten so TIRED of following the status quo, of doing the same “expected” things the expected way all the time!! Always being the “good girl” makes for a dull, boring lady! I remember this director I worked with on one of my past jobs. He had this quote he liked to make “If it ain’t broke, break it!” Now it’s a lot of ways to take that, but he meant it to encourage us to step out of the box sometimes.
I’ve been feeling this way for awhile. So while it may ruffle some feathers when I do the unexpected, like have my wedding in Vegas and wear a pink dress instead of a white one, I’m happy and this train is moving on, without the naysayers!!

-On the topic of Butt Dialing- For a man that is doing dirt, it’s a helluva panic infused feeling when you happen to look at your phone and see an outgoing call to your girl that lasted 38 minutes that you butt dialed. You immediately start recreating in your head the conversations you had and the people involved. The only thing worse is when you’re out there tricking, done bust a big one, go to bathroom to take off the condom only to discover that sh&t done broke and is wrapped around the base like a rubber band. Talk about panic! You start thinking about diseases and begin to scrub your meat profusely with superhot water and try get soap all in the pee hole, like that’s gonna wash away HIV. Hey Kimmie – thanks for the compliment. I do try to keep it positive.
Bluzgirl my comment that I think of you as a younger me was all good.
You read like someone who goes against how society says a woman should act, much like myself. My thinking is not of the typical woman who wants the husband, 2.5 kids and the white picket fence. I always wanted to do what and who I wanted and live my life as fully as possible. I think that society dictates that something is wrong with a woman who thinks this way. Why does a woman have to be labeled a ho or a jumpoff because she wants to get hers. Why can’t we as women sow our wild oats like men do before we decide we want to settle down.
From reading this blog, I am starting to realize, it is the perception of how people view me. I’ve never really thought about how people viewed me because I was just living my life.
I always wanted someone special in my life, but I think I make it too easy by not letting them work to get me. I do to a certain extent, but I’m always giving men the benefit of the doubt.
I’ve been reading this blog I think 3-4 years and the comments of the confident women have really made me do a lot of soul searching. I think all of them have had misadventures(just like myself) and have made them better women for it. When the women were giving Bluzgirl advice I thought about some of my actions pertaining to men(in my younger days). I’m glad you took their advice and realized you are special and deserve to be treated as such.
I’m still a work in progress but it’s all good.
