Do women prefer to be dominated?

I once heard a woman say that dating a man that allows her to walk all over him can be a major turn off. While she wants a nice guy, she does not want a doormat. She prefers a man that can exert some dominance over her and won’t let her get away with anything.

I can see her point when she refers to not dating a doormat, but wanting a man to dominate you seems like a slippery slope. What kind of boundaries would you want to have? How do you know when the man’s dominance goes beyond a “healthy” dominance and gets eerily close to the scary kind?

I am not referring to the sexy Christian Grey/Anastasia kind of arrangement, here. (I am sorry for making a Fifty Shades of Gray reference, forgive me?) I am talking about having an adult relationship with one dominating partner – the man, having most of the power in a relationship.

Ladies, do you think that you prefer some degree of dominance over you? Would you get bored by a man that “let’s you walk all over him?”

Men – in your experience, do you get a favorable response when you exert your masculine energy in a relationship?

If American prisons were more like Venezuala, I can bet you that not as many people would want to go to prison! I read an article about a police chief in Arizona (I think) who makes sure that prison is not luxourious (sp?). He actually has tent cities where the prisoners would sleep. The ones where were actually inside the building only had certain foods they were fed and could only watch Disney or the Weather channel on TV. He also had chain gangs where the men had to wear pink shirts.

Swiss, i know how TV exaggerates things, but prison is the US is alot different than prison in Russia, no one is fighting for you rights, and some of those prisons in South America, and Mexico, where the guards are there basically to keep you in, they don’t care what you do as long as you keep it in the inside, people have guns knives and everything else. and in most there is no such thing as parole. Some of the younger generation don’t have a problem with going to jail even though they’ve never been before.

The vast majority of folks in prison — particularly those in the private prisons (and there are a ton of those) — are there for non-violent, drug-related offenses. Why should someone be locked up for doing (or hell, even selling) drugs?

Yall trippin….If DuShawn II went to jail. I’m coming to get him out immediately and ensure that he has the best legal representation. I don’t care what he did. I been there. That aint no place to be. I’m getting my boy out. If the case goes south and he has to go inside. I’m visiting often and making sure his books stay full. I’m raising right. God willing his journey won’t take him there, but if it did. I would there for him, just like my father was for me.

Bluz ~ I can bet you now that not many “want to go to prison.” And, those tent cities are no joke. There are worse prisons out there than our American prisons!

Seriously DuShawn ~ not take the charge for my child, but of course I will get her the best legal representation I can afford, and yes, I will visit her. I won’t like it because each visit would break my heart, but I would never abandon her.

“if you don’t like it fight to change the laws”

That’s my whole point. We have those laws in the first place because big industries with lots of $$ to lobby for them (private prisons, pharmaceutical companies, etc.) got them passed.

swiss – I agree with you that drug users shouldn’t go to jail, unless they have committed crimes to get their drugs. I think pot should be legal everywhere. Not that I smoke it (wish I liked it), but it’s not right that so many people go to prison over pot. The hard drugs? Now, that’s where it gets tricky. I wouldn’t want to see those legalized, but what you do in your own home should be your own business. I did hard drugs for a couple of years back in 2005-2007 and it would have destroyed me had I been out at the bar, in the bathroom, and gotten caught.

And the only way to get rid of such laws is to get enough people to realize that most of our drug laws are total BS. Thus my rants — I’m raising awareness, dude. :)

Leggs, Dushawn, I’m sorry I’m not going broke for my child (because I know my child) how many times are you willing to do this, had another friend that almost made his parents, his grand parents and a aunt loose their homes because he jumped bail, His step-dad basically worked his self to death to save those homes. For me, it aint happening. that’s why I let my sons know this early on.

Bluz — Exactly. You knew full well that what you were doing could land you in prison if caught, and yet you still weren’t deterred. Folks with drug addictions need help. Being locked up in prison and being branded a felon for the rest of your life is not help.

Swiss, these laws came long before all this lobbying, most of these drugs were legal until black started taking them. Thus why the time is different for different drugs, that may be the reason they’re still around but not why they started.

S/H – folks have spent time in jail just because of things as simple as resembling someone else. my point is only that it can happen to anyone. it’s not always about checking yourself or walking away.

I told my kids that if they don’t want to be in jail, don’t commit any crimes. If they committed crimes, jail is where they belong. I felt bad on that account for one of my sons, but the past few years, he’s taken it to heart and now tailors his behavior such that he doesn’t commit crimes, thus does not get arrested.

On topic, I have a somewhat dominant personality and so will function as the Alpha in pretty much any scenario. As that applies to my relationship, sweetie asserts herself when she deems necessary and I pay close attention, but my word is still the last word. Often, my last word is in favor of her, but only because after she asserts herself, I can see that she’s right.

It’s about respect. A man requires respect, even if it isn’t deserved. So, pick a man that deserves it.

swiss – instead of sending addicts to jail, they need to be sent to rehab! I was lucky because there was a time that I had a gram of coke in my pocket while driving…I was following my boyfriend at the time to his house and a cop came right behind me. He ended up going around me and pulled him over for tag issues. I could have been put away for a while for having that in my possession, but I’m not a criminal. I was just caught up in a bad way…

I disagree: if you’re in violation of the law, you are a criminal. Criminals are described by their actions, not their intentions, nor their character — although disregard for the law is a common criminal characteristic, obviously.
